Subject: RE: BS: From Rick and Heather..Thanks Mudcat From: KathWestra Date: 28 Oct 03 - 03:27 PM It seemed like a good idea, and we're glad you liked the surprise. Did you read the instructions on the "Texas Home Grown Dope?" I especially liked the bit about planting with a silver spoon and sheltering from draft.... Many of the folks who contributed to the DVD were FSGW folks but not Mudcatters. Would it be okay with you if we put a brief note in the FSGW newsletter so that those who aren't on the Cat could know how pleased you were? Could basically take some of what you posted to start this thread and leave out references to Mudcat. Let me know--in a PM if you want. Much love to you both. Will hope for good news from CT scans this week. Big hugs. Kathy |

Subject: RE: BS: From Rick and Heather..Thanks Mudcat From: SINSULL Date: 27 Oct 03 - 06:04 PM We really did miss Rick and Heather and Allan too. Next year. I looked at Barry Finn belting out song after song and thought that Rick will be here next year and do the same. |

Subject: RE: BS: From Rick and Heather..Thanks Mudcat From: katlaughing Date: 26 Oct 03 - 06:49 PM Sinsull, that reminds me of a Lily Tomlin "Mrs. Beasley" routine about her friend, "Good Vibrations." You can hear it at npr here. Really worth it! You all are great, what a wonderful thing to do for Rick & Heather! Thanks Rick for letting us know. luvyabuncheskat |

Subject: RE: BS: From Rick and Heather..Thanks Mudcat From: SINSULL Date: 26 Oct 03 - 12:20 PM Anyone keep count of how many times Mick knocked over the music stand? One glaring omission from the recordings was Tinker's song about "BOB", her battery operated boyfriend. Maybe you can convince her to add it. He is "at your service", sort of. Think about it. Enjoy the Getaway vicariously and feel better! Love, SINS |

Subject: RE: BS: From Rick and Heather..Thanks Mudcat From: kendall Date: 26 Oct 03 - 09:01 AM Dont criticize Micks music stand, he threatened to kick my ass when I mentioned it! I mean, just because a guy is the early stages of crusty old farthood is no reason to bug him about his inability to remember lyrics! Rick and Heather, you can't even imagine how much you were missed at the Getaway, and that token of our appreciation (the DVD player) is a pitiful gift indeed. Do you know what to give the man who has everything? scroll down penicillin |

Subject: RE: BS: From Rick and Heather..Thanks Mudcat From: Tinker Date: 25 Oct 03 - 05:29 PM But Mary dared me.... Honest Rick, this was a chance comment that took wings and flew. Kathy Westra asked if I was going to send you footage and I laughingly said I wasn't sure how to send it because neither format was playable...maybe I'd just send a DVD player... Kathy immediately jumped and said "We could do that, all of us." For the rest of the weekend I met amazing people. I had a great lunch with musicians who seemed amazed that I knew that focusing on the playing was more important than the face. ( Well not with Mick, the Damn music stand hides his hands 90% of the time... Maybe he just doesn't want you to see that F chord..)But after hearing you say that you should be able to play along watching a lead player I knew that was what I should do ( or try)BG I'm pretty sure it was Bob Zentz who commented on remembering you at one of his concerts watching his hands til you knew how it was done. One unnamed concert singer allowed me to tape despite hesitation (shyness) and did great. Mick is going to help edit a final cut and I should get it to him next week . After that two weeks to finished product. But mercy all, I don't particularly know what I'm doing it may not be polished, but theres a lot of fun and love involved. I was told I passed the three taping rules well, 1) buy my CD 2) be quiet 3) sing along anyway... But I figure you and Heather should have been feeling the warmth in Toronto. It must have taken a direct flight because the outer air was cold down where we were... I'm consolidating things now and trying to get rid of my most obvious mistakes.... In close to 8 hours of taping my right arm muscles are a tad worked out and it occaisionally shows. Love and Light to you both, Tink |

Subject: RE: BS: From Rick and Heather..Thanks Mudcat From: Jeri Date: 25 Oct 03 - 04:27 PM Gotta say (because I'm a pedant) that the DVD player was Mick's idea, but contributors were FSGWers: some Mudcatters, some not. Should've seen it. Mick pretty much got mugged by people trying to pitch in. I think you were in more people's thoughts than you can imagine and that even though you've only come to the Getaway a couple of years, you were a huge part of it for more than a few folks. I found myself, walking past the dumpster and remembering "Rick and the Trash Pickers" playing "Paul and Silas." I watched Mick's diet F-chord and imagined what you would have said. I sat in some workshops and thought about how much you'd enjoy them...or wouldn't. Thought about how you and Heather would be freezing your butts off because love can't always keep you warm. I missed you and I'm glad we had the opportunity to give something tangible and useful. (Or it will be useful once you get yourself extricated from the cables.) |

I missed the Getaway too, and all I have to show for it is this 60-pound autoharp Edmund and Charmion sm*****d for me...well, could have done worse! Best Bill |

Subject: BS: From Rick and Heather..Thanks Mudcat From: Rick Fielding Date: 25 Oct 03 - 12:18 PM Holy cow! You could have knocked us both down with a feather when Big Mick arrived, not only for a welcome visit, but bearing gifts from Mudcatters! And WHAT gifts! A DVD player, a beautiful shawl from Mario and a package of "genuine Texas Dope" from Kath Westra. What a wonderful and generous bunch of folks you are, and I can't tell you how much we appreciate it. Kinda makes up for missing the getaway. We've been really enjoying the stories and anecdotes from the week end as well. Getting to watch "A Mighty Wind" on DVD was the icing on the cake. My "Rick's Health update" thread is getting a bit wonky on my computer so I'll start a part two in the next couple of days, but for a brief update ask Mick. He was here and we had a great time. I don't have much energy and I've done enough blood tests that Dr. Frankenstein could make a whole new person from what they've collected. I'm still on a medication called Celebrex. Is it working? Don't know yet. Got some X rays and CT scans next week that may help answer that question. Anyway.....thank you so much for caring. I still read Mudcat everyday but just don't post as much (lack of energy is one thing, but after five years ya CAN run outta things to say every day!) Love Rick And Heather |
