Subject: RE: BS: Cat characters since start, favorites? From: Amos Date: 27 Jan 04 - 11:33 AM For those who enjoy delving, the First Blake Madison Post, by LEJ, was in this thread. Regards, A |
Subject: RE: BS: Cat characters since start, favorites? From: Amos Date: 27 Jan 04 - 11:26 AM Ah, thanks, Jeri. Forgive my wee cross-wired brain--I get confused in the contemplation of stellar brilliance such as LEJ AND PT's... A |
Subject: RE: BS: Cat characters since start, favorites? From: katlaughing Date: 27 Jan 04 - 10:36 AM Jaysus! Thanks for that, Jeri. I'd missed that whole thread while up in WYoming with the new grandkid. That is one of the finest pieces of writing I've ever seen here; it sounds like Lonesome EJ, to me. |
Subject: RE: BS: Cat characters since start, favorites? From: Jeri Date: 27 Jan 04 - 10:05 AM The last Blake Madison post I've seen. Amos, Peter T is a wonderful writer, but Blake wasn't his shadow. From the beginning, he always left enough clues so it was possible to figure out who Blake's alter-ego was, but not so many that it was easy. I've never been 100% sure, either. That was half the fun though. I would have PM'd the author if I could have. I feel it's the finest piece of writing I've ever read here. |

Subject: She's Coming Back..... From: GUEST,Dewey Early Warning System Date: 27 Jan 04 - 12:57 AM The rumor on the Hill is spreading from powerful connection to powerful connection, rippling through the rolls of the mighty. It is passed at expensive dinners and quiet high-class bars, and in whispers over expensive sheets at night... She will be back soon. Plans are being changed and assets being liquidated. No-one knows what to expect, but no-one would dare be caught unready. Word runs up and down the street. She will be back... |
Subject: RE: BS: Cat characters since start, favorites? From: Amos Date: 27 Jan 04 - 12:43 AM For sheer creative genius there is nothing to match the incredible characters brought forth in Mudcat Enterprise (a fiction space opera thread) by Peter T, Jen Ellen, LEJ and few others. Then there's the wonderful bird-burning Mojo Woman on the Mississippi riverboat Albert Hansell, and the boat's intrepid skipper Catspaw, and a host of strange Mississippi riverboat characters. There's Peter T's amazing flat-foot Blake, and the otherworldly doings of the Himalayan mystics, and then there's the hot-rod mechanics in the Juke Box Joint, and the strange folkies (of whom Condolezza must be the greatest) who solved the murder mystery at the folk festival...I mean, there is no end to these characters aorund here. Oh, and those seadogs under Elizabeth Regina who nearly stole the Empire! Just peruse the fiction threads over the last few years and you'll have your hands full. A |
Subject: RE: BS: Cat characters since start, favorites? From: Teresa Date: 26 Jan 04 - 11:00 PM Ah, Kat and 'spaw, Cuilion was INDEED the one I was thinking of! Subject: RE: BS: Cat characters since start, favorites? From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 26 Jan 04 - 09:34 PM I really like some of the alter-egos that show up around here. For instance, I'm very fond of Penelope Rutledge. Well, actually, I should say I'm very impressed by the talent of Penelope's perpetrator. I really hate Penelope herself. She's a bitch. My current favorite is Corridus the hamster. I hope he doesn't get eaten by a cat any time soon. Bruce |

Subject: RE: BS: Cat characters since start, favorites? From: katlaughing Date: 26 Jan 04 - 12:54 AM And, Roger from Baltimore, who does still post once in a while. Also, I love Roger the Skiffler's very entertaining posts, esp. about his trips to Greece! BillD, remember the young woman, Cuilionn? Her postings were always so interesting to read. Here's just an example: Och, a'richt, whae's this MAG pairson, whae gaes aroond mentionin' ma verra ain Gaelic teacher, th' inestimable Rich Hill? He's aff in Scotland th' noo, sae we're sufferin' in his absence, but och, weel... Here's sumpit fun aboot Gaelic: for th' maist pairt, ye cannae express ownership by sayin' "MY this" or "MY that." Insteid, ye use th' terms "agam" an' "orm", literally "at me" and "on me." For instance, ye cuidnae say "my buik." Ye'd hae tae say "an leabhar agam." (the buik at me.) I like th' implication that we cannae hoard possessions, but ocht tae jist pass 'em 'roond when we're dane. Onybody wi' sangbuiks kens weel that th' sangbuik cuid end up "at" someane else wi' muckle ease...they seem tae wander awa'. kat |

Subject: RE: BS: Cat characters since start, favorites? From: John Hardly Date: 25 Jan 04 - 10:14 AM As an unintended consequence of my "Dear Mr Guitar" thread, Dr. Guitar ended up creating one of the most humorous (and might I add, laudably on a musical theme) characters here. I initially thought that if there was humor to be had in my Mr Guitar idea, it was in the silly, naive, stoopid assumptions of the questions -- not in answering them. Whoever came up with Dr. Guitar proved me wrong. |

The current discussion on funny Mudcat threads identifies some items as being worth publishing. What are the legal implications of posting something on Mudcat? Subject: BS: Cat characters since strart, favorites? From: GUEST,sorefingers Date: 21 Dec 03 - 02:40 PM The other day reading the postings and laughing at the comments got me thinking about how the Mudcat used be and how it is today. So looking back through thousands of posts that I liked I found a few that stand out, not because they are grammar or spelling wizards but because they made me pay attention by saying interesting and or funny things. My vote would go to Cleigh O Possum but a close contestant would be the Elves. |
