Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: Backwoodsman Date: 16 Sep 16 - 03:25 PM John Kerry looks like a Spittin' Image puppet of himself. |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: Steve Shaw Date: 16 Sep 16 - 11:09 AM My wife rang me the other night. She said she thought there was water in the carburettor. I said "Where's the car?" She said "In the river." |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: keberoxu Date: 16 Sep 16 - 10:58 AM Today's Boston Globe has a John Kerry feature article: interview, summary of career highs and lows, front page, and all. If there was any humor, it was unintended. Actually the story was a lot of not much, apart from the townhouse on Beacon Hill. This thread is more interesting than that story. If I can get a workable link, you can judge for yourself. Boston Globe NO, forgetaboutit, the link won't work. Sorry. |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: Dave Bryant Date: 18 Feb 04 - 05:40 AM I must admit that after seeing more pictures of Kerry, I think that he looks more like comedian Russ Abbot ! |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: Long Firm Freddie Date: 12 Feb 04 - 05:43 AM Hmm, just noticed the one I posted is on page two of the link McGrath posted. Didn't notice there was a page two at first. Worth repeating, though! LFF |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: Long Firm Freddie Date: 12 Feb 04 - 05:39 AM I've been on a whisky diet. I've lost three days so far. LFF |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: Daithi Date: 12 Feb 04 - 05:38 AM Also...if you'll forgive the threadcreep - any Brits agree that Keanu Reeves looks like a younger version of Michael Portillo? Just watched Matrix Reloaded again and couldn't concentrate...! |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 11 Feb 04 - 08:35 PM Kerry does have more hair, mind you. Though it looks a lot like it might be a wig. I can imagine that speculation about that posibility could turn into quite a major issue in a Presidential election... Though I can't really think anyone would get a wig looking like that. He'd look a whole lot better with a beard, the way Lincoln did. But I think they probably brought in some kind of unofficial addition to the US Constitution forbidding presidents from having beards. |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: Bob Hitchcock Date: 11 Feb 04 - 08:10 PM Oh you rotten bastards, I'll never be able to look at John Kerry again without thinking of Tommy Cooper. AAAAAAAAAGGGGGGGGGGHHHHHH |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: HuwG Date: 11 Feb 04 - 06:49 AM I walked into a bar the other day. It hurt. It was an iron bar. I went to the doctor. I said, "Can you give me something for wind ?" He gave me a kite. |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: Dave Bryant Date: 11 Feb 04 - 05:41 AM One of his catch phases was "Jus' like that !" which was always delivered with a gesture rather between dipping his hands into a bowl of water or playing the piano. Mary had a little lamb She also had a cat. Tommy Cooper came along and killed them . . . . . Jus' like that ! |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: Nerd Date: 10 Feb 04 - 10:59 AM The joke over here in the US is that Kerry looks like "Lurch" from the Addams Family. There is even a Lurch for President button being sold on ebay. If you go to this URL http://www.hippyhillnews.com/ and scroll down (or search for "Lurch") you'll see a photoshopped image of Kerry as Lurch. |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 10 Feb 04 - 10:21 AM "I went into this pub, and I ate a ploughman's lunch. He was livid." That's how they've got it in that first link I gave, and I think that "livid" somehow adds the signature. Especially if you have Tommy Cooper's voice running in your head. (What a disconcerting thing to have...But when I looked and listen to those video clips, I found he tended to stay around when I read the jokes. |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: GUEST Date: 10 Feb 04 - 08:32 AM I went into this pub and ate a ploughmans lunch. He was furious. |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: GUEST Date: 10 Feb 04 - 08:04 AM Just like that. |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 10 Feb 04 - 07:35 AM Spike Milligan once said that Tommy had a face "like a cry for help." This link has some short video clips of him in action. Well, he looks like John Kerry to me. (On the other hand the Kerry that Roger the Skifffler mentions emphatically does not... Here she is.) |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: John MacKenzie Date: 10 Feb 04 - 06:56 AM I think he looks a bit like Treebeard from LOTR. John |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: RangerSteve Date: 10 Feb 04 - 06:22 AM I don't know who Tommy Cooper is, but I always thought Kerry looked like Fred Gwynne. |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: Dave Bryant Date: 10 Feb 04 - 05:46 AM Perhaps he'll get elected - Jus' like that ! |
Subject: RE: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: Roger the Skiffler Date: 10 Feb 04 - 03:51 AM I see from today's newspaper headlines that Kerry also won UK celebrity "Get me out of Here"!.....or am I confused? (Answers on a blank cheque, please). RtS |
Subject: BS: John Kerry/ Tommy Cooper's double From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 09 Feb 04 - 10:19 PM Every time I've seen a newsclip of John Kerry, I've had this feeling he somehow looked very familiar. It just flashed on me who he's like - the late Tommy Cooper, a lugubrious English comedian whose speciality was doing magic tricks that went ludicrously wrong, with a great line in terrible jokes, which I suspect most Americans won't find funny, but which used to make everyone over here fall about. For example: "Last night I slept like a baby. I woke up three times, wet myself twice and cried myself back to sleep each time." He was greatly loved. I predict that if he becomes President of the USA, the lugubrious John Kerry will be a smash hit over here... Anyway, here's a page about Tommy Cooper, with a supply of jokes that John Kerry perhaps had better not try as a candidate. Though if he gets a chance to come over here as President, he could do a lot worse than learn a few. |
