Subject: RE: Obit: Spalding Gray From: Walking Eagle Date: 10 Mar 04 - 04:27 PM Has it been confirmed as suicide? Just asking. I remember once when he said. "I'm just waiting for the life I had 3 seconds before the accident to come back." I'm waiting for the life I had before my hip snapped to come back. Walking on two legs is an incredible thing. Walking CORRECTLY on two legs is amazing. Enought about me. Suicide is a nasty business. The person who is dead is finally free of pain and demons. For family and friends, the life long pain is just beginning. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Spalding Gray From: Chief Chaos Date: 10 Mar 04 - 01:56 PM I see a lawsuit in the offing. Mr. Grey leaves a suicide note, the NYPD is called and they hand things over to the Port Authority who find Mr. Grey on a ferry and then just turn him loose? If I had been there I would have held onto him until a psych eval could have been done! Suicide is bad enough but not caring to try to stop someone from harming themselves is worse. |

Subject: RE: Obit: Spalding Gray From: Bat Goddess Date: 10 Mar 04 - 01:07 PM I was just doing some further searching about Gray's performance in "Our Town" . . . and found some wonderful blogs. I usually don't have time to read or seach out blogs; some interestingly named sites out there. I need to get an extra six-pack of time . . . Linn |

Subject: RE: Obit: Spalding Gray From: Bat Goddess Date: 10 Mar 04 - 09:35 AM I'm glad somebody posted this -- I've been in a bit of a funk since his body was confirmed or I would have done it myself. What a mind! And what a tragic loss. Really need to watch "Swimming to Cambodia" and especially "Monster In a Box again." Loved his quirky cameos in films like "Twenty Bucks" (quirky enough film, too -- a favorite of mine). Anybody else read his article in a travel magazine (Conde Nast Traveller?) a few years back about his experience with psychic surgeons in (I think) the Philippines. (Sorry, my random access memory is getting more and more random.) He and his work will be missed in this household. Linn |

Subject: RE: Obit: Spalding Gray From: Helen Date: 10 Mar 04 - 03:02 AM Although he was never one of my personal favourites, I did get and appreciate the wacky, off the wall humour sometimes. Maybe it's because we share the same birthday, although not the same year. Helen |
