Thanks for your help. I'll ask Alan on New year's eve re the swan neck microvox.

I thought at first you meant a portable blower to save using the bellows! The whistle player at Sutton Coldfield FC back in the 70s would blow up a ballon, fit it over the mouthpiece of a whistle, and accompany himself on a song. Not sure you'd find one big enough to drive a whole set of pipes, though!

We've got a Crate Taxi that we use with t'cloggers, brill amp with plenty of power and tone and two inputs. Our bass player "The Late" Bill Hunt has just bought one to supplement his acoustic bass and it works well (the amp not Bill!)

about £100 ukp

P.S The Nobels Streetman 10 is said to be an excellent battery powered amplifier. It's what I'll get if I ever need one, based on the reviews I've seen.

(Google for it)

I've seen a Pignose strapped round a melodeon player in a procession. It was on his back, particularly useful to project sound behind him to the dancers he was playing for.

I should think that would do well enough for the smallpipes too. How you mic the pipes is interesting though; the best place for a mic when recording is somewhere roughly equidistant from the holes on the chanter. Maybe the end of the chanter would be good enough for your purpose though. If you want to amplify the drone too you'll need a mic right on the end of it. More than 1 drone? um... just do the bass one, I should think. A pair of Microvox swan neck mics should do the job, and either battery box will take the two inputs and mix them.

Any thoughts or recommendations for a battery powered system for smallpipes (to be heard outside)?
