It is useful to have that room there-- though I have wondered if it is one of those rooms that will get the most use at the new year when the resolutions are at their strongest? Maybe this year it will see a little more action! Good luck, everyone!

Robin, maybe we could arrange something - let me think about it. We could always celebrate at the Irish Rover! ;-) Are you near Iroquois Park? I've been wanting to get back to walking. Bernheim is also a possibility. I managed to regain my weight over a two-year period. I never thought it would happen to me...;-(

oh, me please - loads to lose, lost 5 stone last year but am suddenly without any willpower, except the one which tells me to eat, eat, eat. Would love someone to diet with - I need all the encouragement I can get!

Robin, if you don't find a match with a Mudcatter, here's an alternative of fairly active posters and serious weight-losers. Go to "Oprah.com" (yes, Oprah), "O-Groups", category "Fitness & Weight Loss", subcategory "Healthy Diet" and there is a support group called "Accountability".   (Or look into one of the other groups if a different one appeals to you) You'll have to register to start posting, but it's free and no strings (i've never seen any strings).

I've been off the 'fast', as they call it, for about 2 months now. As long as you follow the rules it's not a problem. The program encourages taking Actigal to ensure a healthy gall bladder. Things like fats and 'empty' carbs are already taboo. No one in my group had any problems. Of course, I know of 2 other people; one celebrated with a dozen Krispy Kreme donuts, the other with a 16 ounce steak. Both ended up in the emergency room.

m/m, please, please be very careful about the return to normal eating-- I have done your program, and you are seriously impacting your metabolic rate with it. I can say more when you get to the add-veggies/fruit phase, if you want to PM, but please, be VERY careful then to keep your activity level UP and raise the metabolic rate in a sports-med approach.

In the past year I've lost almost half my body weight in a medically supervised program featuring a liquid diet. The doctor in charge has been fine tuning things for over 20 years, so I suspect she knows what she's doing. The point in posting here is that, although they don't kick you out of the program for breaking the diet (as long as you show a good faith effort), they will drop you for failing to attend the weekly group sessions. From this I infer that a regular face to face relationship with a mentor and a group are an important element of success. ie. E-mail probably won't be good enough.

The major questions are: how much do you need to lose and why do you need to do it. Out of the approximately 15 in my group at the begining, 4 were left at the end of a year. All of us had serious medical issues. Major, permanent weight loss means changing your life. It can mean finding a new set of friends. If you want to know the kind of issues they covered, feel free to PM me. If the interest seems general, I'd be happy to respond here.

How many pounds are you trying to lose? That might make a difference in the matchup.

I have to lose a few, but I don't know if it would be reasonable to match 10-20 pounds with someone who has a larger goal.

They say you can lose weight better if you have someone with the same goals and desires to buddy with. Well, I am dead serious about dropping my remaining pounds in 2005, and wonder if others here on Mudcat might want to set up a "buddy system" for us to reach our goals in this coming year? Any takers? PM me, or post here!
