They are really great for big meals..like camps etc. I think I got one for Rainycamp years ago. I love them. They really do work well...mg |

Now every day will be "it's such a blue, blue day I feel like running away.." Way to go blucie, er brucie! Really! Your funny posts will now be enhanced with pictures, but none of goats, please. On second thought, your bleu clikies may cause you to write less! One picture ain't worth a thousand of your words. Ban the brucie blickey! |

Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: Rapparee Date: 06 Feb 05 - 10:19 AM I play golf about as often as I hunt dinosaurs with a spatula. Yet I have a couple dozen golf balls (some that I'm told are quite expensive) in a container on my kitchen table. Starting about the end of March I'll start collecting more -- I think that they might be like mushrooms and pop up in my back yard when Spring comes. I was going to seed them around the golf course to confuse the golfers, but I now realize that golfers are already confused enough and if I did that they might not be able to find their way home. Then I'd have all these golfers wandering around at night, their plaintive cries of "Fore!" disturbing my sleep. Maybe I'll open a Used Golf Ball Stand instead. (Did anyone notice the subtle way I worked a spatula into this? Didja?) |

Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: Stilly River Sage Date: 06 Feb 05 - 01:11 AM I'm glad Rapaire recognized the trebuchet--saves me having to track down the links. All I had to look up was the piano part. This looks like an upright grand attached via choker cable. This will take care of any salads or golf balls or slugs on the fairway. SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 05 Feb 05 - 10:06 PM No! Keep the golf balls! This is a salad shooter thread! Shoot heads of lettuce at the golfers! |
Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: Rapparee Date: 05 Feb 05 - 10:04 PM Nah, Teresa, they're planning to load the slugs into a blunderbuss and shoot 'em that way. I dunno about that, but I do know that I'm glad I won't have to clean it. |
Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: Teresa Date: 05 Feb 05 - 09:59 PM Mortar and pestle to grind up the slugs ... er, I mean the herbs to go in the carnage ... er, I mean salad? Teresa |
Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: Rapparee Date: 05 Feb 05 - 09:50 PM Whilst that could be interesting AND help me get rid of the golf balls I've collected from my backyard, I think I'd rather have one of these, only bigger. But I am going to start flinging the golf balls back onto the course. It should create some confusion, make the golfers' lives a little more surreal. |

Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: Peace Date: 05 Feb 05 - 09:26 PM We are thinkin' too high-tech. Here's the answer! http://www.mangonel.com/petraria/ |

Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 05 Feb 05 - 09:21 PM I already have a mortar just like the first photo. And I think we've decided that a blunderbuss would just be the shits for shooting sea slugs. |
Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: Rapparee Date: 05 Feb 05 - 09:13 PM What sort of mortar ya lookin' for? We kin git 'em in all shapes 'n' sizes. |
Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: Peace Date: 05 Feb 05 - 09:06 PM Yeah, that's IT. Use a spatula to get the slugs into the blunderbuss and BOOM--faux escargot. YES, FULL CIRCLE. |
Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 05 Feb 05 - 08:54 PM How'bout a blunderbuss? |
Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: Peace Date: 05 Feb 05 - 08:44 PM Likely get 'em through a 4-gauge. |
Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 05 Feb 05 - 07:01 PM Thanks, Brucie, but those sea slugs are a bit to big bore for a shotgun. You'd need a mortar to fire them and I don't have one. |

Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: Stilly River Sage Date: 05 Feb 05 - 03:47 PM Isn't slime a problem if you're rifling slugs? Curious Northwesterners want to know. (And you want to be careful how big those slugs are.) SRS |
Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: Rapparee Date: 05 Feb 05 - 02:43 PM Bee-Dubya, it depends. If the endive is attacking or even threatening to attack AND it's either wild or exists in an untamed area of vegetation (like a garden area in early Spring), OR if you don't want to get real close to it, I'd sure consider 12 gauge slugs. Or some #4 buckshot. More of it in the air than double ought buck, but it's still big enough to clear out effectively. If you're going to use the 7 1/2 or any of that small stuff, make sure you use steel shot or even bismuth. No point in getting lead poisoning from the endive you harvest. One thing about rifled slugs, though. If you miss 'em when you clean the endive, they'll pass right through ya. A day or two later you'll have to buy a new toilet, though. |
Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: ranger1 Date: 05 Feb 05 - 12:59 PM What do you call a vegetarian with diarrhea? Salad Shooter! OK, bad joke left over from my high school days in the 1980s. I'll go back to my corner now. |

Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 05 Feb 05 - 12:50 PM I suspect that the "FFF" Harpy referred to is the Florida Folk Festival. There seems to be dissension brewing over changes in the way musical participants are chosen. Fortunately for me, my official participation now is as a crafter so I don't have to worry about it. I still get to play as much music as I want, but I don't have to be at a certain place at a certain time to do it. Of course, that all has zilch to do with salad shooters. But I do have a serious salad shooter question: What size shot should I use for shooting endive with a 12 gauge shotgun? I've been using 7½ for iceberg lettuce and radichio. Do you think the 7½ would still be okay or should I move up to something a little huskier? I was even thinking about rifled slugs. It seems a bit like overkill, but it'd be a lot easier to dress. Picking birdshot out of lettuce ain't much fun and you can damned sure break a tooth on any that you miss. |

Subject: RE: BS: Salad Shooter From: CarolC Date: 04 Feb 05 - 06:13 PM Someone gave me one that they didn't want. That should tell you something right there. I got rid of it, don't remember how though. |

Subject: BS: Salad Shooter From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 04 Feb 05 - 06:03 PM I remember seeing something called a Salad Shooter advertised on television back in the days when I had a television (10+ years ago) but I don't remember any of the details. Did anybody own one? (A Salad Shooter, that is. Not a television.) If so, whatever in the world for? Did it work? What was it about a salad that you found to be so dangerous that you would need to shoot it? |
