Subject: RE: BS: about avid's From: Dave the Gnome Date: 13 Apr 05 - 05:36 AM I guess they could live in Jeopary. I heard on the news only last night that lots of rare breed of animals were in Jeopardy. Mind you they are also saying there are lots of jobs in Jeopardy as well. Wonder if it's all the people moving there for the jobs that are killing off the rare animals? I went to the local library to find out if they had a book or any maps on Jeopardy and they said they would have a look for me when they got a round tuit. Wonder where... :D |

Subject: RE: BS: about avid's From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 09 Apr 05 - 09:49 PM Are Snow Flies related to Fur Flies? |
Subject: RE: BS: about avid's From: Severn Date: 09 Apr 05 - 09:34 PM Avids are very much like those Snow Flies that we're always trying to get home before, but somehow always fly undetected between the flakes and manage to beat us there. They usually come in second behind the Snow Flies, but avids try harder. |

Subject: RE: BS: about avid's From: Ebbie Date: 09 Apr 05 - 09:11 PM Severn, if you are correct that hunter created avids single handedly. Is that possible? (And who is or was "David"?) |
Subject: RE: BS: about avid's From: Severn Date: 09 Apr 05 - 08:59 PM Some mighty hunter just shot the D off of David, that's all. Actually, I spray my roses for both avids AND mightys. But when you see one, just give out a yell like Lou Costello, "Avaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaad! and we'll come running. |

Subject: RE: BS: about avid's From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 09 Apr 05 - 07:56 PM Avids are unique in that they may be taken by hunting or fishing. In fact, there are probably three or four times as many avid fishermen as there are avid hunters. And let's not forget the domesticated varieties grown by avid gardeners. |

Subject: RE: BS: about avid's From: Ebbie Date: 09 Apr 05 - 07:13 PM El Greko, I must have read the same book because that is my understanding too. The author never made it clear though as to what size avids are. If you have further information I think you should share it with jpk, if only to relieve his or her mind(s). |
Subject: RE: BS: about avid's From: George Papavgeris Date: 09 Apr 05 - 06:35 PM Avids are a superior mutation of the common aphid. They are turbo-charged little beasties, like a V-12 engine, which is how they earned the "v" in replacement of the "ph". Like Unicorns, UFOs and the Yetti, they are so hard to catch, none ever has been caught. As a result, rumours abound regarding their speed and other capabilities, to the point where they are considered by some to be mythological. But they do exist. And at least some of their characteristics are documented and have given rise to new hobbies: They have letters on their wings (avid reader), which they beat so fast they can raise quite a breeze (avid fan); also they have a very active and imaginative sex life (avid spectator) and sing pretty well too (avid listener). |
Subject: RE: BS: about avid's From: Georgiansilver Date: 09 Apr 05 - 06:20 PM They can however fly!...... only backwards to see where they have come from! |
Subject: RE: BS: about avid's From: Shanghaiceltic Date: 09 Apr 05 - 06:16 PM Avids are similar to haggis. They walk/run around hillsides all their lives so one pair of legs is shorter than the other, so they can only run in one direction. Therefore two hunters are needed. One runs from behind making the avid or haggis run forward, the second hunter must wair behind a bush or rock and spring out at the right time to surprise the prey. In its confusion it will panic and try and turn back. Because it has two short legs on one side it will then fall over. Easy really! Not too sure if there are clockwise running ones or ant-clockwise running ones as they are very rare beasts. |

Subject: RE: BS: about avid's From: Georgiansilver Date: 09 Apr 05 - 06:15 PM Avidly! of course. Best wishes, Mike. |
