It's a steel post chain wire fence. Fortunately, she didn't light the candles after dumping the kero.

I'm not making this up - I'm not that clever...

Now to get us back on topic, perhaps PoppaGator could write a song about this...

Kerosene and matches--since she didn't burn down your yard, or apparently the fence, can we safely assume it isn't a wooden fence? I thought this story was going to go along the lines of how to collect after arson. :-o

The problem with insuring your house is that sometimes the company won't pay because of the 'fine print'.

When my elderly 'strange neighbour' poured a couple of gallons of kerosene all along the ground on the side of my house next to the joint fence, I couldn't get the plants in the ground replaced cause they weren't covered - but if they would have been in pots, that would have been ok...

Lucky it had been the week before that she had tied herbs and lit candles to the fence - she was praying to The Goddess of The Earth to stop gravity draining the water downhill in the clay substrate onto her property - when she finished that, she started singing 'Onward Christian Soldiers' at the top of her voice at 1 am... no - I didn't look out the window to see if she was 'sky-clad' - I don't think my system could have taken the shock...

I'm not making this up you know...

Giok, I agree with your citing that reasoning of "can't afford the premiums" but it reminds me of a girl and her husband going through hard financial times - snd then she got pregnant. She explained to me that they couldn't afford the birth control pills.

I do understand- but the alternative is worse.

I never thought I'd say this, but I'm seriously beginning to wonder if many folks will go back to NOLA. There is still nothing to go back to. No water or electricity at this point. The longer this goes, isn't it more likely that people will just apply for all the insurance/relief money they can qualify for, and start over wherever they are at? I don't know that I would go back to a swamp that floods everytime it rains, just to live a hard life of being either unemployed or marginally employed for a couple of years while the city is "rebuilt".

NOLA ain't gonna be NOLA again for a very, very long time methinks.

Just hearing about the size of the uninsured losses they estimate Katrina has caused; billions and billions of dollars. I couldn't sleep thinking our house was uninsured, I know it's mostly because people can't afford to pay the premiums. It just adds to the sadness of the whole thing. I hope the folks get the help they deserve.
Giok

Ebbie, I saw Pappa Gator last week and lent him my Washburn. I did post, but I'm not sure which thread it was.... He and his family are settled in and caring for his mother here in New Jersey for awhile. He's in great spirits and waiting to travel back to check on things when he can... A friend who is assisting with medical care in the area gave his place an eyeball before Rita hit and told him the house looked pretty good, but the three big trees... well he might want to come home with a chainsaw.... His MOm needs round the clock care, so he can't do Getaway but he may stop in with BObert on his way to New Orleans

Thanks, gnu. I had read that thread before. I'm just hoping that some Mudcatter has been in touch with him. I'm also wondering whether he might be among those who are returning to N'awlins.

(This thread can be deleted as needed- as soon as I get an answer(!)

Where is PoppaGator? Has he found his guitar? Are he and his family OK? Is the guitar OK?

Ebbie
