Subject: RE: BS: abdominal fat & the booze From: Liz the Squeak Date: 20 Feb 06 - 10:24 AM Suddenly I don't feel so bad... my abdominal height is pretty good so I'm going to blame the child - having a C-Section to get the little wretch out, sliced all the muscles in my stomach so there is no support there.... I *AM* the thinnest for 4 generations!!! LTS |

Subject: RE: BS: abdominal fat & the booze From: GUEST,body fat count 25% & slowly decreasing Date: 20 Feb 06 - 09:42 AM ..and i'm sure holding a belly and bladder full of heavy liquid for all the hours of a regular session must stretch and distend already sagging under-exercized musle tissue. which then cant offer any support for the ever expanding extra inches of fat layer. so if youre already a beer and pies fueled middle aged fat bastard.. even if you can find the will power and self discipline to cut down drinking to once or twice a month, or quit altogether.. you still got to get on a healthy diet and factor in at least a year or 2's regular serious exercsise to get down to a muscle/fat ratio that if maintained can help prevent diabetes and high blood pressure/heart illness etc.. [..and the inevitable need for the support of viagra.. that is if you can find anyone who'll let an old puffing sweaty fat guts anywhere near them] |

Subject: RE: BS: abdominal fat & the booze From: michaelr Date: 19 Feb 06 - 07:39 PM Well now, don't blame it all on the gargle. McDonalds and all the other high-fat, deep fried, higly processed fast food crap people ingest in vast quantities are responsible for the epidemic of obesity sweeping not just the US, but much of the western world. And all the attendant problems like diabetes and heart disease. One major culprit is the high-fructose corn syrup they put in everything from soda to salad dressing. The stuff is deadly. Read the labels. I don't buy anything that lists it as an ingredient. Eat better, and enjoy a drink! Cheers, Michael |

Subject: RE: BS: abdominal fat & the booze From: bobad Date: 19 Feb 06 - 06:50 PM "Abdominal fat, a contributor to heart disease risk, is related to alcohol drinking patterns, says a study published in the August 2003 issue of the Journal of Nutrition. The type of alcohol consumed appeared to contribute differently to the accumulation of abdominal fat, and findings showed wine drinkers had the lowest abdominal height (the amount that the abdomen extends above the torso when a person lies on his or her back, a measurement which correlates highly with abdominal fat stores). Beer wasn't associated with central abdominal fat, though liquor drinkers had the highest score. Within all categories of drinking frequency, the number of drinks mattered, the more drinks per drinking day, the higher the abdominal measurement." http://www.jrussellshealth.com/alc_abdomfat.html |

Subject: RE: BS: abdominal fat & the booze From: Bill D Date: 19 Feb 06 - 05:54 PM it would be nice if it were that easy to place the blame, but there are many, many non-drinkers who find it all too easy to gain weight. Heredity is a major factor, and eating habits in early youth tend to 'set' the body's processing mechanism.....and after all that, various forms of booze can make it worse. Exercise can help, but getting started at serious exercise when exercise is already uncomfortable takes will power. Moderation in all things is a good start. good luck... |

Subject: RE: BS: abdominal fat & the booze From: Liz the Squeak Date: 19 Feb 06 - 05:15 PM I know how you feel... I no longer drink vast quantities of beer regularly, but I have the abdominal extension that occurs..... why have a 6 pack when you can have a full barrel?! It's all down to a more sedentary lifestyle. My case is also not helped by genetics. Looking at family photos taken over the last 100 years, I'm the thinnest for 4 generations! LTS |

Subject: BS: abdominal fat & the booze From: GUEST,Big Bellied Wee woman Date: 19 Feb 06 - 05:07 PM I have read a theory that ( almost ) all abdominal fat is due to drinking booze. Yes, I had heard of beer bellies in men. But could all fat bellies be down to booze ? And, even worse, the "wing " bits of flab on my back are also down to the same thing !! Ee-yuk ! Maybe it's a good thing, because it could help me cut down. I am now looking at all big bellied men and women and wondering if it is the demon drink that has done it. Whenever it's somebody I know, then yes, I can usually say that they are drinkers. Then I start looking at wee women in the street and wonder if they drink a lot ! I suppose it could just be a glass of wine at dinner that piles it on. What do the mudcatters think ? Also , to take the heat off of me and my big belly, what about the folk you see these days with big bums. I mean BIG bums. Is that maybe from drinking coke or something !!! ?? Please don't anybody take offence. I am a BIG person myself. |
