Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST,Poopsie Mac Date: 13 Apr 06 - 06:29 PM This was added to the first post on this thread: "Please don't. We have more than enough trouble to deal with. Thank you, but we're not interested in hosting such an experiment. -Joe Offer-" Okay, Joe Offer. I will not. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: Ebbie Date: 13 Apr 06 - 02:17 AM You mean as in "But ah, my foes, and oh, my friends – It gives a lovely light!", Foolestroupe? You may be right but I suspect that day will not go down as those climbers' favorite memory. "Poopsie"? Years ago my sister in law introduced a coworker of hers to me. The 40ish woman said to me, You can call me 'Punkin'. And I thought, Oh, no, I can't. |

Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: Jack the Sailor Date: 13 Apr 06 - 01:41 AM Poopsie Mac, Is THIS thread an experiment to see how, only by being polite and respectful, how many rude responses you would get. You seem to have nabbed some. I'd tell you how many I have counted but some would consider that rude. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 13 Apr 06 - 01:25 AM So what was the view like from the mountain Ebbie? |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST,Poopsie Mac Date: 13 Apr 06 - 12:45 AM Is often met with rudeness! The question, Ebbie, will not be framed to evoke an insult. It will be written as one would write a sincere info seeking post. But, Ebbie< what is "how very clever" bit? |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST Date: 12 Apr 06 - 11:32 PM He is testing the possible rudeness of the response not the stupidity of the question. The possible rudeness of the response will determine if someone thought it a stupid question. But them thinking it a stupid question should not warrant a rude response. But by them posting a rude response to what they percieve as a stupid question will expose that unintentional stupidity is sometimes met with rudeness......I think. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST,M.Ted Date: 12 Apr 06 - 11:05 PM Of course, your idea of a stupid question might not strike anyone else as a stupid question. Your judgement already seems a bit iffy, since you think this is a good idea. |

Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: Bill D Date: 12 Apr 06 - 10:25 PM you need a new hobby, guest..you seem to only wanta read the testy ones..*grin* |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST Date: 12 Apr 06 - 08:35 PM Is this thread still open? Every one I go to is closed. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: The Shambles Date: 12 Apr 06 - 09:07 AM There is no need for any future bogus thread to demonstrate what is suggested. I am sure that there are many past example of exactly that. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: Ebbie Date: 11 Apr 06 - 11:05 PM I suspect, poopsie (how very clever!), that the response will depend a great deal on how the "stupid" question is couched. If a person comes in apologetically, trying to get an answer that they'd never dared ask before, that person gets a different response than the one who breezily asks a loaded question without ever having read one of the numerous threads on it. Kind of reminds me of a few years ago when two young men with a few hours off from working on their cruiseship decided to climb one of the downtown mountains. It didn't occur to them to wonder whether a trail up the mountain had been devised (in 120 years of settlement!) and they swarmed straight up the mountainside. Well, they got to a place where they couldn't go farther up, they couldn't go left, they couldn't go right and they were afraid to go down so they started hollering. A hiking group descending a different mountain nearby heard a repeated HELP! HELP! HELP! and notified the police. The rescue unit sent a party up the trail to try to reach the stranded men and a helicopter unit went up to see if they could lift them off. This was about 3:30 in the afternoon- they didn't get taken off the mountain until 8:30 that night. So, yeh. You could get the response you're egging for. What is "folk"? |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: John O'L Date: 11 Apr 06 - 11:02 PM I think the first response will be from Peace. It will be helpful. The second will be from sIx. It will be and attempt at humour at Peace's expense. The third will be a comment from Martin Gibson stating that obviously this is the thread that was prophesied, and we should all therefore ignore it. The fourth will be a humourous response from Peace to sIx's post. The fifth will be Peace again responding to Martin, with whom he cross-posted. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST,Poopsie Mac Date: 11 Apr 06 - 10:48 PM I think "rude" will be clearly defined at least once in the first 5 responses of the upcoming thread. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: Janie Date: 11 Apr 06 - 10:46 PM "oh oh" Good call, Ebbie:^) (Janie, who is really gonna stop stirring the pot now) |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: Janie Date: 11 Apr 06 - 10:44 PM And who gets to define rude? Starting this thread is pretty rude IMHO. And so is chiming in on it like I am now. I think I'll head on out and get a life. Love, Janie |

Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST,Poopsie Mac Date: 11 Apr 06 - 10:35 PM We often bite one another here, which is understandable since "familiarity breeds contempt". But when a guest comes here seeking info, be that guest stupid or not matters not, often the guest is met with rudeness and insult. All they wanted was info and they get mistreated. The members here often invite people to become new members, but just as often, they run others off with their snideness and rudeness. So, yes, I will put up a bogus thread to prove my point. There is no need to be rude to guests who come here seeking info, even if their questions may be stupid. |

Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: Janie Date: 11 Apr 06 - 10:13 PM Leave it to Sinsull to be sensible:*) Janie |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: SINSULL Date: 11 Apr 06 - 10:09 PM Let me understand this...you are going to post a very stupid and bogus question above the line and when you are called stupid this will show Mudcatters what they really are. Seems to me it will only show that you are stupid and bogus. Congratulations. But why annoy the people above the line? Tired of stupid bogus threads below? |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST,Poopsie Mac Date: 11 Apr 06 - 09:27 PM To whom are you speaking, Mr. Happy? I don't see a problem with any one here. |

Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: Mr Happy Date: 11 Apr 06 - 08:47 PM [or intended even!] |

Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: Mr Happy Date: 11 Apr 06 - 08:46 PM Do you have a problem? [no offence intented] |

Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST Date: 11 Apr 06 - 08:34 PM Ok. You seem to have your bases covered. Good luck and a fair wind. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST,Poopsie Mac Date: 11 Apr 06 - 08:31 PM "legitimate stupid threads" We do have our share of those! |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: Jack the Sailor Date: 11 Apr 06 - 08:30 PM Good idea Poopsie. we don't want any legitimate stupid threads caught in the crossfire. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST,Poopsie Mac Date: 11 Apr 06 - 08:25 PM The bogus thread has not been posted, nor shall it be at this time. By the time it is posted, this will be forgotten or boring to the few who read this thread. Keep in mind, the Mudcat attention span is not very long. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST Date: 11 Apr 06 - 08:22 PM I predict zero due to those here scanning the above threads for the bogus thread and rushing in to help. You will be scuppered. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST,Poopsie Mac Date: 11 Apr 06 - 08:07 PM Besides, I want some one to make predictions of the odds of insult in the first five posts. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST,Poopsie Mac Date: 11 Apr 06 - 08:05 PM Praps, Dear Guest, you may be correct, But I do believe that the "integrity" of the bogus thread will be intact, for many a stupid thread is posted in the section above. T'would be hard to decide which it is. Also, most of the people who post "above the line" will never read this thread. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST Date: 11 Apr 06 - 08:01 PM Would maybe have been truer if you had posted the bogus question first. Then linked to it here with your findings. Forewarned is forearmed etc. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: Big Al Whittle Date: 11 Apr 06 - 07:55 PM Try it........ see if anybody can help you find the lyrics of The Wild Rover you believe its scottish in origin, and the only part you're certain of is..... no, nay, never no more |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST,Poopsie Mac Date: 11 Apr 06 - 07:50 PM No, nothing to arouse controversy. Just a very stupid question from some one who does not have his/her facts right on the subject of which she posts. After the fact, I will tell in this thread, which will have to be refreshed then, which thread it is. Ebbie, no need for "oh oh". This is not to create controversy, but to show ourselves to ourselves. |
Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: Jack the Sailor Date: 11 Apr 06 - 07:11 PM I predict joking reponses. I expect that ugliness will depend on the topic. Anything about US made mid range guitars? |

Subject: RE: BS: Help or Insult From: Ebbie Date: 11 Apr 06 - 07:04 PM oh oh |

Subject: BS: Help or Insult From: GUEST,Poopsie Mac Date: 11 Apr 06 - 07:00 PM Suppose a new thread appeared in the music section in the next few days. Suppose this thread was of someone seeking answers to a music related question but the question was utterly stupid, a real completely ding-a-ling question. What do you think? In the first 5 responses, do you think there will be any blatantly insulting responses? I am sure there will be helpful responses in the first 5, but I would strongly bet on the presence of at least one, possibly more, ugly responses. What do you think? We will see.
Thank you, but we're not interested in hosting such an experiment. -Joe Offer- |
