Subject: RE: BS: propaganda & how it works From: Ron Davies Date: 06 Sep 06 - 08:27 PM The problem, as we've discussed in other threads, is that propaganda is so easy to do--if the circumstances are right. If you have a country which is fearful, bitter, and uneasy, all you have to do is tell the population who to hate and fear--and blame for their problems. All it takes is somebody unethical enough to exploit the situation--as in Germany in the 20s and 30s--or the Bush regime now. |

Subject: RE: BS: propaganda & how it works From: M.Ted Date: 06 Sep 06 - 10:25 AM Edward Bernays took the expertise that he had developed when he worked for the US gov't to promote WW1, and applied it in the private sector--that's why they call him "The Father of Public Relations"--but he wasn't really the first--what he did was to write a book that explained the process in psychological terms, aptly titled "Propaganda"--Freud was his uncle-in-law, so he knew the lingo--this, plus a penchant for wholesale self-promotion, made people think that he started the business--not so-- Governments have been using the same PR techniques to gain support for wars since there have been governments--the thing is, though we know all the tricks, and can spot them a mile away, no one has been able to figure out a way to counteract them-- |

Subject: RE: BS: propaganda & how it works From: Donuel Date: 04 Sep 06 - 07:18 PM The rules of propaganda started with the father of public relations right here in the good ol USA. Bernais coupling propaganda with debate attack tactics, hypnosis, a monopoly of TV news, blurring religion and civic duty and psycho-quantum effects and we have what we have today. Sad to say I unwittingly contributed to propaganda techniques with some unsavory intelligence types back in the day. |

Subject: RE: BS: propaganda & how it works From: Bobert Date: 04 Sep 06 - 05:14 PM Seems that a good number of folks here in Mudville didn't buy any of the crap in the mad-dash-to-attack-Iraq... So I'm thinkin' that it must be a certain type of person who is so readilly willing to swallow the company fight song without a second thought... I can think of several without workin' up a sweat... But what really gets me is the poll that was taken 6 months after the Bush folks purdy much conceded the WMD error and there was still a heathy majority who had been so propagandized that they still believed that Iraq had these WMD's... And then there is the Dick Cheney who is one of the best liars I have ever seen in action... Even after the WMD had been debunked he was amkin' statement which suggested strongly that Iraq had possessed these weapons therefore keeping about 90% of the NASCAR dads propagandized which, of course, ain't all that hard to do...
