Subject: RE: BS: Is this a phone scam???? From: JohnInKansas Date: 24 Sep 06 - 06:27 PM In my area (US) the latest scam is to call claiming to take a survey, since "surveys" are exempted under the Do Not Call lists. My usual response is to ask "Is this call worth $10,000 to you and your company?" - which they ALL immediately recognize as the standard fine for each Don't Call violation. All 7 or 8 such that I've received in the past month have immediately said "We'll remove your number from our list" with no further discussion. Thus far, it's all people Any scammer here who calls "collect" is most likely a porn/sex operation that's calling numbers at random (or that collected your number from some site you signed up for ;< ) - so I'm told.) Subject: BS: Is this a phone scam???? From: Mr Red Date: 24 Sep 06 - 05:25 PM Got a call today from the "reverse charge" (collect) service from person calling themselves "Hmmmmmmmummmmi". I hung up. The UK service records the person's name and that is what I heard. My immediate reaction was to think it was a scam. The cold callers/sellers don't call me because I am on the TPS register and ex-directory and always have been. But amybe this is outside the remit of the TPS because I would have "effectively" called the telemarketeers. All the UK people who know me would most likely to be near their mobile or at home. And certainly articulate. Has anyone in the UK had anything like this yet? |
