Subject: RE: BS: Roman Coffins Found at Newcastle From: Richard Bridge Date: 23 Aug 08 - 03:31 AM Surely if the root of the word sarcophagus (a corrupted "os" ending) is ancient Greek then the plural should be sarcophagoi. My classics master at school was most insistent about the plural of "discus" being "discoi". |

Subject: RE: BS: Roman Coffins Found at Newcastle From: Georgiansilver Date: 23 Aug 08 - 06:20 AM Sarcophagi..... disci..... octopi ...... I agree with the ending in 'i' bit Richard but where did the 'o' come from??. I believe octopus... is the only one that can be octopuses or octopi.
