Did anybody else watch the televised celebration,
on Wednesday evening,
of Carol Burnett's 90th birthday?

Besides the many birthday tributes,
there were many excerpts from Burnett's variety show
(many in black and white, some in color).
Amazing that she is still with us at 90 years --
and still performing as an actress on television.

Probably one of the funniest tributes was the one from
the actor who plays Saul Odenkirk (Breaking Bad, Better Call Saul),
who agonized over the fact that his character
would contemplate "killing Carol Burnett!!"

I recommend Shy, the volume of memoirs by Mary Rodgers,
who wrote Once Upon A Mattress,
in which Carol Burnett got her Big Break into the business.

Mary Rodgers died around 2014, and was the daughter of
Richard Rodgers, he of
Rodgers and Hart and also Rodgers and Hammerstein.
Her life was not easy, and she had a lethal wit,
much in evidence in Shy.

She has nothing but good to say about Carol Burnett, though.

I love Burnett's stories of life with her grandmother. All of her stories are interesting, but those are a pure gold.
