For those going to the RHB festival on 8th - 10th June, here is further info should you be camping. I have phoned Middlewood camp site in Fylingthorpe and they confirm that they are open. This site has great facilities but access to RHB is usually via either the disused railway track or shortcut across the fields. Both of these routes are closed because of MAFF restrictions, and although the owner is hoping that these will be lifted soon it means that folks have to go via road to RHB, so walking back at night might be a bit of a haul. The other campsite I phoned is Hook House farm which is on the main road down to RHB and is walkable. Now this is a working farm but the animals have been grazed well away from the campsite area. However this weekend is the first time she has opened it up and she is very nervous. There are disinfectant precautions in place and although she has not stipulated, she would prefer that people did not bring dogs so we have decided to put ours in kennels for that weekend. It is important that you tell her if you have been in contact with any farm animals however. The facilities are not as good as the other site but we have stayed there before and it is convenient provided you take oxygen for the hill climb on the way back after a night in the village. Telephone numbers are Middlewood, 01947880414 and hook House 01947880283. hope to see some of you there!!!

I wonder what country this event is happening in, having grown up on the shores of Robinhood Cove in Maine.

This is Yorkshire, England we're talking about. I can recommend the place to anyone visiting our shore (what shores? Thanks very much I'll have a Guinness). It's amazingly picturescue, and home to England's premier folk family, the Waterson/Carthy clan (although you don't often see them at the folk weekend in June.

If you haven't been to Bay (as it's known locally) before, you really should. The Folk Weekend is a bit of a free-for-all with sessions and singarounds in pubs and dance teams in the street. There may be a ceildh and a concert too, but we'll be in the pubs (so no change there).

And, of course, despite what a lot of people'll tell you, Robin Hood was a Yorkshireman. It was only the Evil Sheriff who came from Nottingham.**bg**

"Our" Robinhood was actually an Indian chief whose name the early English settlers found difficult to pronounce, and so re-named him.

Chief Rawandagon alias Robinhood sold land to the English settlers arriving on the lower Kennebc River during the mid seventeenth century.

Don't forget the session of the weekend to see how many deaths we can mention in one hour of singing, no songs are allowed to be specially written for the event, as in last night I slew 37.8 million ...........whatever. Last years final total was in excess of 54 million all genuine songs. Normally held in the front bar of the Dolphin between 4&5 See you all there!

JohnJ, my secret is out, my older less goodlooking sister was at the Jug, I send her in my place because my rich exotic lifestyle does not allow me to be in two places at once and it was the Cannes film festival......

Thanks, Charley and wdyat, very interesting. Doesn't mean no-one cares just because you don't get lots of acknowledgements! :0)

Robin Hood's Bay is probably my favourite of all places- wonder if Robinhood Cove in Maine is anything like it? May have to research this personally...
