I had to share this with everyone and wondered if anyone else had any amusing anecdotes on the same subjects. Most Sat nights we "do" weddings and come across an unusual variety of cakes. This Sat was no exception

The cake in question was round and surrounded by chocolate fingers. On the top is was covered in little chocolate curls and hundreds and thousands. On the top was a mechano mechanism which supported a horizonntal cross from which were hanging minature silver bells, horseshoes etc and this rotated. One band member said I wonder why their cake is made like a roundabout and I commented that it looked more like a sewage filter bed. Turned out that's exactly what it was as the groom was a sewage engineer!!!

very funny cake...

We do alot of functions like birthdays and weddings, seems that the lot we have performed for so far, have all been fairly normal...

We've seen a leprechaun cake, a football field, a sheep cake, and the usual white frilled wonders...

A sewage cake... that beats them all!

I used to work as a cake decorator. At the time the teenage Mutatnt Ninja Turtles were popular so we did a lot of those for kids' birthdays...

Most unusual wedding-related cake was one which was to have a cemetery depicted on the top, for a bachelor party...black and grey frostinsg require a lot of coloring and so the icing ends up tasting kind of yucky...

Since we did butter frostings and these did not lend themselves well to making flowers (especially in warmer months when most weddings occur), we mostly did wedding cales with a very basic frosting decoration (scallops or other edges) and added fresh flowers...this was also very popular at the time (late 80s, early 90s).

I make a bat cake every year for my Samhain Soiree...

When Michael was an infant, we were working closely with his bio-mom for a reunification. She was a nice girl but a baby was more like a doll to her and she would dress him in 3 or 4 outfits at every visit. Along the same lines, she planned a huge extravaganza for his first birthday, featuring Mickey Mouse. We go to the party and she has a beautiful Mickey Mouse cake (no job, no place to live for more than a week at a time) that must have cost a fortune. Karen and I gave her 40 bucks toward the cake because we knew she didn't have it to blow, but this was the way she lived. But back to the cake.......

The thing was just perfect! A great likeness of ol' Mickey and he was black where he should have been black, white where he should have been white, etc. Therein lay the "problem." Michael (and Tris) both ate a lot of cake, heavy on the icing.....evidently, the black icing. Friends, the next three days were really special! I guarantee you have never seen blacker poop in your life. The first time it hit a diaper (I think Michael was first), I like to had a cow........

"Karen!! Come here quick! I think there's something really wrong here!"

It did actually take us a minute to figure it out and we got a good laugh. Then we tried cleaning his bottom and the laughter stopped. It was not only black, but gooey, pasty, and sticky...AND....it stained the skin on their butts!!! For about three days, changing their diapers was a real treat, generally involving scrubbing their butts in the shower (this was a lot of fun too). Concurrently I noticed that my "own" was similar and required a shower every time I used the can too.

ADVICE: Do not eat black icing unless your shower is in good shape....it's even worse in a diaper than the technicolor 'Fruit Loop' doody so familiar to many parents.

I went to a 'biker' wedding once, and the top layer of the cake was a 10" pork pie... lovely.

Thanks for making me smile ,reading this reminded me of the time when on my son's birthday , we were really broke but I was able to have enough to make him a cake. Only problem was that I didn't have any thing to decorate it with. At the time He was into the color purple sooo I took grape kool-aid and mixed it with white frosting. I was able to get the desired co;or but the taste welll it was something we still laugh at 15 yrs later (it was pretty awful). Nice thing is, my son thought that was one of the best birthdays because i tried to make his cake special for Him . mmm

I too was doing cake decorating for a while. When a friend requested a non-sugar cake for her diet and her birthday, I made a beautiful cake of low-cal bread with meat fillings between the layers and a low fat cream cheese icing. Decorated it with flowers and all. It was supposed to be served before dinner with wine. Unfortunately, it looked exactly like a real cake. Several kids took huge slices and proceeded to gag on the pate filling. Nice start to the evening.

I used to have a cake decorating business and got some mighty strange requests! For a long time cakes covered in naked ladies were very popular (40 ladies instead of candles for a 40th birthday etc.) They were always multi ethnic and all shapes and sizes, they were quite fun to start with but I got heartily sick of them as the years went by! Now,the naked men were much more interesting .... apparently people used to fight over the one with a knot tied in it! They were certainly a talking point at parties. My husband's favourite was a silver tankard, with naked ladies diving and swimming in the foaming beer, for a landlord who was retiring

I used to try and find out as much as I could about the person the cake was for, so they could be as individual as poss. One of the most bizarre was an ashtray, complete with dimps, cos when I asked what the octengenarian did, I was told "nothing except smoke!" Apparently he thought the joke the hilarious, especially as somebody used it before there was a chance to cut it!

Although I too have never made a sewage plant cake, I have made some very individual wedding cakes. One couple had a white mini as they'd met when the groom answered an advert in the newspaper when the bride was selling her car. Then there was the ski slope cake, the scuba diving cake, the Tyne Bridge, the rugby scrums, the electric guitar, the WW2 bomber, the nurses uniform..........
