Saltburn FF will take place as usual August 11/12/13th 2006 and the competition for unaccompanied Traditional style singers will once again be taking place (over 18s please!)

The usual venue is the Conservative club on Saturday (12th this year) of the festival between noon and 4pm

A lovely annual trophy sculptured by the famous Barnsley artist Graham Ibbeson, who was responsible for the Morecambe and Wise sculpture is to be fought for and a similar model/sculpture in the image of Fred to be kept by the winner

Not to mention the usual cash prize and the honour of winning

Judges have been appointed by John Taylor whose decision is final in all matters for 2006

All entries to me please ~ see also Saltburn leaflets and you will need a weekend ticket to enter the competition!!

Ray Padgett

Why not have a go? There have been some cracking lady singers won this in recent years. One more won't hurt.

I believe that you have to be the holder of a full weekend ticket to be eligible to enter. Is that correct, Ray??

Yes Hazel always has been the case!

Check out with John Taylor, but nice trophy £150 (last year) and a good sing ~ but enter in the right spirit please!

One of the best sings at Saltburn, really nice atmosphere and everyone 'raises their game' hence singing is superb

Anyone wanting to enter please PM me
Ray (on non guest posting)

Hello Ray!

Can I can ask what the criteria are for songs? Length and what type of songs are allowed. I sing both English and Scottish songs, traditional only. I was born and live in England but my parents were Scottish.

I have never entered it before. I'm a lady singer. Currently sing at the Stockton Folk Club, the Globe (Guisborough), and the Cutty Wren, Skelton.

I'm a returner. I sang as a floor singer many years ago but stopped singing for health reasons for a lengthy period. Recently restarted. It would be great to give this a go! I'm still slightly nervous but there's time to choose a couple of songs and give them a try-out in one or two clubs.

Thanks!

Diane Taylor

Hello Diane and I am glad that you have decided to give the singing another go!

I have a full set of rules, however as a general rule sing your best two, aim to 'entertain' in the traditional folk style with an overall guide of the sort of songs Fred may have sung or what he would have considered fitting

I feel that English should be predominant but as you claim Scottish descent too they may be quite acceptable. Just check with judges on the day ~ personally this would be acceptable, but i am not judging

John Taylor was to approach the Wilsons! so there should be no arguments this year

Ray

Hello Ray. Sounds as if English songs would be better. I'll put my thinking cap on! Thank you!
