Subject: BS: bored olddude From: olddude Date: 18 Feb 12 - 06:49 PM Well my missus is in Scotland visiting my middle daughter with the other girls having fun. I am home and don't know what to do. I called Spaw and got caught up. Bugged a bunch of other friends .. Now it is TV and Scifi channel ... Any suggestions other than shoot myself? I am thinking of doing something really exciting like moping the floor :-) But first I have to finish my ham sub and cola ... wow I am old. |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: gnu Date: 18 Feb 12 - 07:03 PM It's another exciting night here on Leeside Drive. Drop over and we'll go for a walk in the fresh, cold air, tell jokes and lies and then... munch on subs... sigh. |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: olddude Date: 18 Feb 12 - 07:23 PM Sounds like a plan GnU |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: gnu Date: 18 Feb 12 - 07:36 PM I just did 5 more laps on me dead end street. Had to give it before up before fer the hail and wet snow. Buddy, she's some clean and fresh air. Get out fer a walk lad. Refresh yerself. |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: olddude Date: 18 Feb 12 - 07:51 PM Yea I think I will take my big old fat lab mix for a trot around. Cold here and some sleet but not too bad actually. Not a bad idea |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: Sandy Mc Lean Date: 18 Feb 12 - 08:01 PM A winter storm has dumped 18 inches of snow on Cape Breton. Up until today the ground was bare but tonight it is winter. One of my favourite sessions takes place tonight about 50 miles away but I am at home tonight wishing that I was there. Winter sucks! |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: gnu Date: 18 Feb 12 - 08:15 PM My heart goes out to ye who what got snowed on in NS and CB, Sandy. It's positively lovely here and even tho I feel for ye I am glad it ain't me. Years ago I would have enjoyed such but, as I am almost at the senior's discount, screw that! I have a naggin feelin that we are due for a bad one here. I recall one Easter after a calm winter back in the late 60s... started snowin on Thursday evening and we didn't venture out until Sunday. Couldn't see across the street for most of it. |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: GUEST,Chongo Chimp Date: 18 Feb 12 - 08:28 PM So yer bored, huh? Want me to come over and see if I can help you out? - Chongo |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: GUEST,olddude Date: 18 Feb 12 - 08:41 PM Sure Chongo, wanna go to the range with me :-) |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: gnu Date: 18 Feb 12 - 08:51 PM Home, home on the range. Where the deer and the antelope get shot. Paper targets, of course. Not near as tastey, but PC. |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: Rapparee Date: 18 Feb 12 - 09:07 PM I got antelope sausage in the freezer. Buffalo, too. You're thinking about "moping" the floor? That's probably more difficult that mopping it, but to each his own. I'm moping the floor over you, I can't sleep a wink that is true. I'm moping and I'm praying that my ennui breaks in two, Moping the floor over you. |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: GUEST,olddude Date: 18 Feb 12 - 09:18 PM moping is the right word. Me and my wiener dogs got nothing to do. Nothing on TV and i am too lazy to finish my song ... |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: Rapparee Date: 18 Feb 12 - 09:26 PM Okay, I know of some bars out this way that will provide you with a little action just before the cops arrive. BYOBK -- Bring Your Own Brass Knuckles. |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: GUEST,olddude Date: 18 Feb 12 - 09:37 PM Lets go to the range tomorrow bro ... One of these days I will see if I can get us on a Military base range. I bet with the right call we could. It would fun to knock holes in some targets at 1000 meters with some military rifle I wanna shoot a 50 cal Barrett again even with the recoil barrel it still has a hell of a kick |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: GUEST,olddude Date: 18 Feb 12 - 09:41 PM I should say you and gnu could at that distance. I doubt my ability .. handguns I am great, rifles I am ok |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: GUEST,Chongo Chimp Date: 18 Feb 12 - 09:49 PM Now yer talkin'! Whaddya think is the best sniper rifle these days? - Chongo |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: GUEST,olddude Date: 18 Feb 12 - 10:03 PM depends on the terrain and the use Military ... long shots the 50 barret for sure but heavy bugger to lug around. Myself I like the 338 lapua. The old venerable .308 ain't bad either for swat teams. But I just knock holes in targets not people or Apes |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: GUEST,olddude Date: 18 Feb 12 - 10:11 PM right now I am cleaning a .380 Colt Government model .. and no I am not a war monger, just a target shooter that grew up with firearms. I am going to take it to the indoor range tomorrow. I can tack nails with that little firearm. Small caliber but colt designed it to function exactly like the 1911. Not your typical blow back design so very accurate. The police all want one for backup .. ya can't find them anymore under a grand. New they cost like 200 bucks but colt stop making them as the bad guys could conceal them too easy or so it was said. |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: GUEST,Chongo Chimp Date: 18 Feb 12 - 10:19 PM The M1911 is my favorite sidearm, olddude. I always carry one in my jacket. - Chongo |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: Rapparee Date: 18 Feb 12 - 10:31 PM That's why you sag to one side. Besides, the M1911 had its faults. Now, the M1911A1 -- THAT was a classic, especially with a good barrel bushing and a little tuning. Now, IF I were to carry a concealed pistol I'd use my Beretta 7.65mm Tomcat. Since I ain't gonna get in any gunfights farther away than 10 feet I can use a Crumpled Weaver Stance and that'll take care of you. For a longer distance a .357 magnum single action revolver (say, my Ruger New Vaquero) would do just fine since anyone who knows anything fires a revolver single action anyway. For a long gun and longer ranges I prefer the venerable M-1 rifle -- can't beat it out to about 700 meters, only I can't even see that far much less hit anything. Yeah, the 7.62 x 51 NATO has a flatter trajectory, but I still like the M-1. You can keep the 5.56 cartridges -- use a .30 of some sort, why shoot twice? Of course, it it came down to REAL brass tacks I'll take my side-by-side double 12 with four-ought buckshot anytime. But like the man says, it depends on what I'm doing. For any all-around, easy to use, accurate long gun I'll take my 10 round Rossi Model 1892 lever rifle -- 10 255 grain lead bullets seem to have a calming effect on people who receive them, up to 150 meters or so. |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 18 Feb 12 - 10:38 PM Boredom is life's way of telling you it's time to buy another musical instrument. |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: Little Hawk Date: 18 Feb 12 - 11:00 PM Or find a new girlfriend (assuming you're single, I mean...). Boredom can also be cured by finding a grizzly bear, sneaking up behind it (which ain't easy), and goosing it or grabbing it by the balls (if it's male) and yelling, "GOTCHA!" If George Bush Jr had tried that in his younger years, we'd all have been spared a good deal of aggravation. |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: gnu Date: 18 Feb 12 - 11:13 PM I can tote my $300 second hand Baikal full over modified 12 all day long on accounta the Ruskies know how to build a proper field shotgun (read... Brownings that cost $30k+ are shite). Light and just a dream to wield. Though they are not made for heavy game, knock a slug in the hole a the first one at 100m no sweat. Of course, that's maybe just me >;-) As for hand pistols... I dunno anything about em and don't wanna. Gee. I can't believe it's been near 10 years since I gave up hunting. |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: GUEST,999 Date: 19 Feb 12 - 12:25 AM I had a .22 Vostok, one in the pipe and a five round clip. THE best rifle I ever used. With others who've given up hunting, I don't either (not unless it's necessary to feed folks). For you people wot's bored, try to find a third way to cross yer legs. Been trying for hours. Ain't worked yet. |

Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: GUEST,olddude Date: 19 Feb 12 - 11:19 PM Right now I have an old watch apart, I think I have a weak mainspring since it is losing power too fast ... looks kinda whipped. Easy fix though but the eyes ain't what they use to be for sure. I need bifocals but refuse to try them again .. hated the things |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: Ebbie Date: 20 Feb 12 - 01:50 AM "...a third way to cross yer legs" - might not look too impressive but it IS another way: Get on your knees and cross your legs behind you. Be careful not to tip. |

Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: Little Hawk Date: 20 Feb 12 - 11:48 PM Wiener dogs will eat almost anything. But they won't eat raw onions. When our Rudi would beg too much in the kitchen and make a real pest of himself doing so, I'd finally get a piece of raw onion from the counter top and say, "Do you want this, Rudi?" "YES! YES!" he'd say. (in dog language and gestures) "Are you SURE you want it, Rudi!" "YESSSSSSSS! I'M SURE! GIVE IT TO ME!" "Are you all ready for it, Rudi?" "DOES A BEAR SHIT IN THE WOODS? GIVE IT TO ME NOW!!!!!!!" At which point I'd throw him the piece of raw onion. He would sieze it in midair and wolf it halfway down before realizing... "GAK! EEEE-YUKKK! ARGH!" He'd spit it out on the floor and gaze at it in shock for a moment...then give me an accusatory and long-suffering look and tick-tack slowly off down the hall to the living room. (tick - tack - tick - tack - tick - tack) THUNK! (flopping down on the rug) "Groannnnnn..." (the weary sigh of a dog who's been had, yet again, by a human with a very twisted sense of humor) |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: JennieG Date: 21 Feb 12 - 01:08 AM Green jello with marshmallows AND chopped raw onion? Yummo...... Dan, if you are still bored and crossing your legs every which way doesn't do it for you, come over to my house.....floors need sweeping, garden needs weeding..... Cheers JennieG |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: catspaw49 Date: 21 Feb 12 - 06:59 AM I would have suggested another one of our favorite program types which has just surfaced but after watching the first two episodes of "Full Metal Jousting"............I can't. What a piece of crap ..................Think "Top Shot" but with assholes where everyone spends every episode shooting at a 200 yard target with a 30.06 while being whacked in the balls with a five iron. Repeat this over and and over. One episode is enough for a lifetime. Spaw |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: maeve Date: 21 Feb 12 - 07:32 AM Come along to Maine to install plumbing, insulation, and wallboard; a sure cure for boredom! |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: GUEST,Patsy Date: 21 Feb 12 - 07:57 AM If I was all on my ownsome I think I would be getting out my big crochet needle and some wool. It sounds a womany thing to do but basic squares are so easy and pretty quick to make and in no time you could rustle up a couple of body warmers for the dogs or a blanket depending on how ambitious you get. Crochet is much less complicated than the casting on and off of knitting plus any mistakes can be easily covered up so at the end of it all you will end up with something. When I was weaning myself from cigarettes I took up crochet instead and it helped a lot. |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: Little Hawk Date: 21 Feb 12 - 08:31 AM Chongo watches "Full Metal Jousting" faithfully... |
Subject: RE: BS: bored olddude From: catspaw49 Date: 21 Feb 12 - 08:32 AM I tried that myself once but when I lit up the wool, it flared up and tasted really awful. I finally did quit but that wool idea ain't all that good! Spaw |
