A recent computer newsletter cites "an absolutely marvelous way to waste a day at the office:"

The WALL OF PYTHON

It should be self-explanatory, which is good because there's no explanation. Click on one of the 100 "scenes" for a short "movie clip" - mostly from YouTube I think. (The couple of links I tried showed about 10 minutes per clip.)

Not much fun for me, as my connection takes ten minutes to download one minute of movie, but it may be fun for those with decent hookups.

Just a note, click on one of the pictures, then it shows the same picture and advises one to watch it on youtube as the "owner of the video doesn't allow embedded videos." If you just click on that warning it takes you right to the youtube vid.

I wasn't able to try out more than a couple of the clips with my connection. I was almost ready to shut down, so I let the load run while I did "other things" and got one completely downloaded, and about a third of another.

The notice I got, in a Jim Louderback (Ziff Davis) newletter:

"Do you like Monty Python? I do. And now there's a huge way to satisfy that craving. It's called "the wall of Python," and it brings up all the episodes in an amazing interface. Waste time, watch the Brits, and forget about work for a while!"

That one links to the report on "The Wall" at AppScout which is a PC Magazine site reporting "killer aps(?)" that the editors come across and decide are worth reviewing.

I don't bother looking at many of the "new apps" that they review, simply because most of them are bandwith hogs that my connection can't handle.

People with "real internet" who can enjoy YouTube and similar stuff might find other stuff at the site that will offer equally uselesss timewasting, and might even find some things that are useful; but you're on your own for finding it. Check the sidebars for topics.

There was a sketch with John Cleese decades ago that sounds like it was from 'Python' but is not in the complete set, so does anyone recall where it is from?

Cleese played a detective who followed Sherlock Holmes' approach to the letter, so when he investigated the crime scene he deduced things like 'the carpet had a very short pile, so a goat must have grazed it: the murderer has a goat with him'. The result ended up with a description of a one-legged man, carrying a goat, blah, blah; at the end of the sketch Cleese drew back the curtain at the window to reveal a one-legged man, etc

Possibly not a Python skit, but a scene in the 1977 movie "The Strange Case of the End of Civilization as We Know It" where Cleese played Sherlock Holmes' bumbling grandson?

Obviously, it's only intended as a time-consuming excuse for not getting anything done at the office.

It should come with the standard "don't try this at home" warning.

For that purpose, of course the little snippets are much better than having the entire recorded series.

The whole series is perhaps(?) something one can do at home, but then of course one must fluff up the comfy chair, make sure the animals are in/out as appropriate, make the popcorn, draw the ale, and then . . . . find the remote.
