He just looks exactly like the kind of Good Dog I'm pining for. You're all very lucky to have found each other, and I sincerely wish for you to have a long and happy relationship.

How great he looks! Sure, he's a bit scared but that's okay......

Jaeger was 5 months old when we brought him home and was accustomed to living with all his aunts and uncles. He had not ridden much in a car and an ice storm turned our 3 hour drive into 9 hours. When we got home he just wouldn't leave the den where we came in so I gt my blanket and we slept there together that night. It was something I now look back on as very special.

We took it easy for a few days with no real demands, just love and cuddling and he turned out to be the sweeetest and most docile Weimaraner I have ever known....a real sweetheart of a dog. His time is growing pretty short now and I think of those early days often and bonding with that big blue dog.

You have so much to look forward to Tami and he looks to be just the guy to share great times with. Enjoy!

Spaw

An elderly dog that I rescued was devastated at having lost the only home he'd ever known. When the 'kid' went off to college his parents brought the dog in to the Humane Society. The Humane Society said that he was completely silent and withdrawn, wanting nothing to do with anybody. Makes one's heart ache.

Three days into our adoption was when he let me know that he wanted to stay. I was sitting at the computer, with one hand resting on him on the chair next to me. He was never a licking dog but he turned his head and licked and licked the top of one of my fingers.

It took almost a month before he was sure that I was in it for the long haul. And oh, for that month he was SO good. Indoors or out when I spoke his name he hurried to my side. And he never barked, not at other dogs or at people going by the house.

Then, when he was completely confident of me he became more relaxed all around. He would still come if I called him but he'd nose around on his way; 'I'm coming, I'm coming - but first I have to check this out...'

And he became fiercely protective o me and our home. 'Fiercely', of course, is a relative word- he never threatened anyone but - ya know what I mean?

Thanks for all the good will. Bandit's doing very well, considering he spent almost 24 hours travelling to complete strangers. He's a real snuggle puppy and slept with us last night, using my feet for a pillow. My big concern was whether or not he was house-trained. I am happy to report that he is and he held it for morning walkies at 6:30. My idea to get up, not his, he was quite content to continue snuggling in bed. He's a quick study and is already learning to walk on my left and has conquered his fear of the stairs. Doorways are still a little scary, but he's already doing much better with them, too. And he's not tippy-toeing through the apartment like something is going to jump out and make yellow dog stew out of him. He's also studiously ignoring the cat. She's intrigued and slightly miffed because he hasn't run yelping in fear when she hisses. He just continues to ignore her. As of this AM, they seem to have decided that they can share me and each pretends the other doesn't exist. It's pretty funny, really. He has a very sweet, very agreeable disposition and is quick to forgive. He was pretty smelly when I picked him up, which is to be expected when a dog is crated for that length of time. I stuffed him in the shower last night and gave him a bath. All he did was look at me as if to say: "What did I ever do to you to make you treat me this way?" But he smelled a lot better when we were done.

Right now, he's hanging out with me at Kathy's, and loving having a big Joey as a buddy. He's going to love Seamus.

Tami and Bandit-

Nice pictures!

We were away from Mudcat when you first posted them, being out in the yard trying to view the eclipse through the clouds.

Glad to hear he's settling in. He's one lucky dig!

Cheerily,
Charley Noble

Well! Bandit came by today to introduce himself to Auntie SINS. He brought along a friend - a big goofy yellow dog who kept swiping cat food. Bandit is a pretty dog, complete with eye liner and a fluffy tail but is all man. At some point Seamus will get the message and cease humping. The two of them had so much fun running around my back yard and showing off for the neighbor's dog. Bandit manages to leap over Seamus, turn, and lick his nose. Next time we will have a camera. I don't know who is happier: Ranger1 with her new puppy, Bandit with his new family or Seamus with a friend to play with. Happy times.
SINS

As one who lost a wonderful dog last year in Septmeber:

Puppers was a GOOD dog! (look)

and who had everyone help compose a tribute song:

Song(s) for dog memorial service?

I say congratulations and may you have many happy years with bandit, who is a very handsome dog indeed. Almost as handsome as Puppers!

Dave's Wife, there is never a dog that is more handsome or smarter than one's own. Nor should there be. Puppers was a very handsome boy, looks a lot like my brother's much beloved Houdini.

As for the Bandit, he had a lovely time with his new pal Seamus and loves his Auntie SINS, especially her backyard. He's not so sure about the cats, though.

Can I put in a happy word about our young tomkitty (soon to be de-Thomased), who doesn't, of course, replace our loved and gone Good Dog? He was off to the vet for an exam and booster yesterday. Vet called him beautiful (as if he weren't stuck-up enough, being a cat!) and he's healthy, except for a probably harmless heart murmur.

As cats do, he's beginning to develop personality. He's a very people conscious cat, eager to meet new people, wants to play lots, and has a very sooky evening program, where zonking out in someone's arms is his idea of bliss.

The more important question is, what did Ed think of Bandit? :-)

Ed gave Bandit (who was studiously ignoring him) "The Look." Bandit lives with a mean kitty, so has learned that kitties are to be avoided at all cost. As in "OW! Sharp claws!"

LOL...that is a valuable lesson for Bandit to learn early on. Good on him!

aww, poor Bandit. kitties and doggies can be great friends but it's usually best to introduce the kitty as a baby cat who smells of milk and who likes having its face washed by a big dog tongue.

The hardest part about losing Puppers is that he had his own cat who goes by several names including FANG. Fang was a 3 weeks old when we found her under the house. Puppers took over parenting duties and for the next 4 years they were Frick and Frack. Fang wasn't a people cat, having come froma tribe of local feral cats. She loved only the dog who she would sleep with every night on the dog's bed. Smart cat she! She learnt early on that the warmest and softest place in the house was right up against Puppers' belly. Well, when he died, she spent a few weeks looking for him and sleeping in all his favorite places. She still sleeps on the dog bed and won't let us put it away. I wonder if when we get a young dog, she'll take to him/her?

Enough about my dog - Bandit's the new boy in town! I hope he's finding his way around and enjoying his new digs! Has he met the other neighborhood doggies whilst out for his evening walkies? Has he formed a little dog gang yet? Funny how dogs do that - not funny that they do it, just funny who they choose to be in their gang. Puppers was in a gang full of little dogs. On our street his best friends were mostly terriers and pugs. At the dog park, he gravitated towards "bad girl" types and ran with a Rottweiler mix named Ilssa who liked to lead her gang on big crashing expeditions through the brush. I was always afraid his fondness for Ilssa the She-Wolf of the Hollywood Hills was gonna result in him getting a rattlesnake bite. Thankfully, the worst Ilssa ever did was lead her gang to roll in rotting carcass of a squirell. Peee-yeeeew.

There I go again about my dog. Well, let's all toast Bandit and his new family and wish him long life, happiness and lots of swell dog-pals to play with! Make sure you post a link to some photos, Ranger1 - we dog people like to keep up with the Mudcat pups. Speaking of which, I wonder how Meg the now 3-legged Wonder-Pup is doing.....Sooz?

Here's to Bandit! Rescued dogs are the best dogs if you ask me.
