Subject: BS: what did ya do today? From: number 6 Date: 01 Aug 05 - 11:18 PM Today is August 1st, 2005. A holiday here in New Brunswick. What did I do today? Went out about 7:30 a.m. and took some pics around the harbour. Started to rain so I went home .. had another cuppa coffee. Loaded the pics, was quite surprised how they turned out. I'm actually rather impressed. Went down to St. George at 10:30 to a very exceptional nursery. Picked up a couple of Holly shrubs for a friend. Drove back to Saint John. Planted the shrubs in the rain. Holly is not a good plant if you live by the ocean. The salt air eventually, and quite rapidly kills it. I learned the hard way. Anyway, this person lives inland so they should be ok. Hung out with the friend for a bit. Drank coffee, talked about nothing in particular, mainly how the weather has been pretty dismal lately. Went to the weekly bluegrass jam tonoite. Realized I really suck playing bluegrass guitar. I'm gonna perseavere. I'm still 1 step away from being kicked out. I'm Rather new at playing bluegrass. Got involved to improve my timing. Anyway, tomorrow is another day. What did you do today? sIx |

Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: Peace Date: 01 Aug 05 - 11:23 PM I went out to check the mail. Nothing. Not even a flyer. Thought it must be Sunday--but I couldn't figure out how I got THAT screwed up that I thought Saturday had happened twice. I have been wondering all day why no one seems to be around. Now I know. It's a holiday. Thanks sIx. |

Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: LilyFestre Date: 01 Aug 05 - 11:42 PM Today I got up early and puttered around the house....watered the garden, played with my critters, emptied out some of my car (violins don't belong in the car Michelle...geez) and called my best girlfriend and sang Happy Birthday to her over the phone. I met her about an hour later and we had a girl's day out. We went to the *gasp* mall where she used some of her birthday gift certificates to get her nails done, pick out some of her most favorite fancy soaps, window shopped and went out for lunch. We chatted and talked, laughed and discussed the year that has gone by. It's been pretty eventful for both of us. It was just a nice day out. I came home, cut up some zuchinni from the garden, added some green peppers, mushrooms and spaghetti sauce and ta-da...dinner! I spent the rest of the evening doing laundry, playing backgammon, listening to the whir of a fan and PMing with one of my favorite Mudcat friends. :) It's been a lovely day...I wish it would go on just a bit longer. Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: Ebbie Date: 02 Aug 05 - 12:36 AM Well, I spent most of the day taking repeated cat naps. I got off the state ferry at 5:30 this morning having spent a couple of days in a town about 100 miles from here. Great time, lots of music. Not much sleep in three nights so other than baking a loaf of bread and reconstituting a bottle of dried milk I didn't do much else but sleep. archy, my coal cat, was in heaven sleeping on my lap. The sun shone today so I should have mowed the lawn... |

Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: gnu Date: 02 Aug 05 - 06:16 AM I was going to clean the balls of my mice, but I thought I might get in trouble with the union, yesterday being a holiday. I was going to mow the lawn, weed the rhubarb, and the like, but it rained. I was going to sweep, mop, dust, and the like, but it was too muggy. I was going to clean up some files, catch up on my technical reading, re-write my resumé, and the like, but I wasn't in the right frame of mind. Gee I'm tired. I think I'll just relax today. |

Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: GUEST,daylia Date: 02 Aug 05 - 07:11 AM Wow that's about the way my day went too gnu. Must be the humidity! I did get around to cleaning out the car and finishing the laundry though - but I just gotta ask - why do you clean the balls of your mice??? Must be so stressful, for you and them. Why not just keep the cage clean? And btw why is Aug 1 a civic holiday in Canada anyway?? Don't tell me the powers that be wanted to honour Lammas (traditional pagan festival of the first harvest)?!? Or is it just that we Canucks deserve all the long weekends we can get in the summer?? |

Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: gnu Date: 02 Aug 05 - 07:25 AM Don't the balls on your mice pick up lint when you drag their balls across the pad? Mine do. And then they stick and hang up on the left or right. I cursor all I want and can't get the little buggers to move. So, I remove their balls, clean the lint from the balls and from the little wheels, replace their balls, and I can cursor away. Nothing like clean, lint free balls. |

Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: Bunnahabhain Date: 02 Aug 05 - 08:30 AM Turned a speaker stand someone was throwing out into a work stand for my bike. Cleaned the kitchen. failed to figure out why the rubber plant looks so unhealthy. Will be going Dancing in the gardens if it doesn't rain too much this evening. |

Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: GUEST,daylia Date: 02 Aug 05 - 08:33 AM LOLOLOL ... guess I'll just hafta take yer word fer that gnu! All the best to you, your mice, and those nice sparkly clean lint free removable balls of yours! |
|
Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: gnu Date: 02 Aug 05 - 09:13 AM The ball on your mouse has never gotten "gummed up" with lint?. Oh, you must have an optical mouse. On mine (I have two mice - two PC's), the lint, dust, dirt, whatever, builds up on the little wheels. I have to remove the balls and scrape the lint off of wheels with a small standard screw driver. Of course, ya gotta be careful not to let any lint get into the "guts" of the mice. Also, I clean the little rubber balls with a cloth and isopropyl alcohol before replacing them. Am I the only one who scrapes dirt off the little wheels and washes their balls? Nobody else's pad gets dusty? |

|
Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: CarolC Date: 02 Aug 05 - 10:05 AM Why not just get optical mouses, gnu? Saves a lot of hassle, and they work great. I never use a mouse pad myself. I hate them. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: gnu Date: 02 Aug 05 - 10:18 AM Oh come on now. You guys are just messin wit me head. Obviously, most of you have got PC's. Most probably have a mouse. Most of these mice have a heavy or weighted rubber ball that moves the little rollers inside the mouse that translate the mouse movement to the cursor. Don't you ever find that your cursor is "stuck" on the screen? And, you've got to wiggle your mouse or reset it on the mouse pad to get the cursor where you want it? Nobody else gets sticky balls? |
|
Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: MMario Date: 02 Aug 05 - 10:20 AM hate mouse pads. destest them. But yes - occasionally, in the interests of hygiene if nothing else - one should clean the balls of your mouse. Occasionally I have even had to use scissors to remove hair that has wound itself around some of the internal workings. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: gnu Date: 02 Aug 05 - 10:34 AM CC... Optical mouse? Me? Spend coin? You oughtta know me better than that. Besides, I like washing my balls. When I play solitaire after a good scrubbing, thay are responsive to every little movement, so I can confidently play much faster. And, when I try to get control in the game of hearts, I never slip up and get it up the ying-yang. Spend money when I can keep using my old equipment? Balls to that. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 02 Aug 05 - 05:28 PM $10 US for a conventional mouse versus $40 for an optical. That's a difference equal to roughly seven sets of guitar strings. I need guitar strings worse than I need faster, smoother, lint-free mousing. And what I did today was the same thing I do every day (or so it seems): Cut up fallen trees, put tree pieces in truck, drive truck down driveway to road, unload tree pieces onto shoulder of road making already huge pile even larger, cuss hurricanes, drive truck back up driveway, repeat. |

Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: number 6 Date: 02 Aug 05 - 06:12 PM Gnu ... I bought an optical mouse at Staples (on the bargain table) last month for $11.00. Bruce ... slick, very slick. But it's a good one! Daylia ... as far as I know August 1st isn't a civic holiday, then maybe it is. In Newfoundland/Labrador they don't have August 1st off. They take the first Wednesday in August off for Regatta Day .... but, this is the catcher ... if it rains that day, they schedule it for the next day, and if it rains then ... well they keep rescheduling until good weather arrives ... causes for some confusion in the business world. sIx |

Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: Donuel Date: 02 Aug 05 - 09:01 PM Looked at mudcat which was full of funny stuff , political diatribes and truely sad news. I pulled a portable pool pump and filter out of the shed and set it up under the pool slide. It now can shoot a curtain of water in a graceful arc or spew a stream as far as 40 feet. When my wife got home we all went in and the kids played going through the tunnel of water for about an hour. |

Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: dianavan Date: 04 Aug 05 - 12:03 AM Went to the island and attended the annual Firefighters Picnic. Six of us made fried chicken, marinated green beans, baked salmon, pesto pasta salad, potato salad and orange cupcakes with ginger. As usual there were almost 500 people there to support our volunteer firefighters. Same guy scooping ice cream for the kiddie cones for the last 30 years. Outside stage with a great sound system. So much good music! One set after another. Lots of dancing. All friends and family. Kegs of beer and bottles of cider and official designated drivers. Barbeque for those who didn't pack a picnic. Juice bar too. Went home, lit the citronella candles and crashed into bed. Woke up early in the morning, drank my coffee and went for a swim. I think its finally summer. One thing about having such a short summer. You have to pack as much fun into it as you possibly can. |

Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: Pauline L Date: 04 Aug 05 - 11:02 PM I prepared for another job interview which will be tomorrow. Some context: The weather here was about 95 degrees F, 95% humidity, and air quality officially deemed "unhealthy." I don't own a car. I walked to the grocery store and, on my way back, had an acute asthma attack, probably precipitated by vehicle emissions (yuk). I put on a face mask, came home and crashed on the sofa. Then I read Mudcat. The latter was fun. ;-) |

Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: Tannywheeler Date: 06 Aug 05 - 10:17 AM This morning I walked the dog, came inside and watched hubby get ready for work, sat down at my machine to get back to Mudcat. YESTERDAY, however, hubby took off, we drove into Austin, and actually signed all closing papers in sale of our "old" house!!!!!. We married in Aug., 1966, and we paid rent until Aug.,1972. Then we started paying mortgage. Several months ago we got a "cash-out" loan for about 60% of our (old) house value, paid flat cash for our "new" place. The closing paid off the "cash-out" loan and put money in our pocket. We owe nothing on our home except the annual taxes--half the rate in this county as the one we used to live in, and, because the house so much lower cost, that rate on less money. Hubby stood outside the Title Co. office breathing deep and smiling for quite a while. I enjoyed watching him do it. Tw |

Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 06 Aug 05 - 10:47 AM "Today" has taken about three weeks to do, but we're finished with it now. My son from my wife's first marriage and his son, my wife Ruth and I have been constructing a 10' x 14' screened-in pergola with a pale green plexiglass roof in our side yard. It has a green, patterned outdoor carpet on the floor and will seat as many as 14 people at two tables. Or just, me and my wifey, when we want to enjoy sitting outside without being feasted upon by mosquitos. We wanted to finish it in time for a gathering of the Messengers, a few other musicians, family and friends for a cookout and all day sing in a couple of weeks. It turned out beautifully, and the whole process of creating it from our heads, with plenty of laughter, soul music and rhythm and blues pumping from a portable CD player was worth the effort in itself. I fell and smashed up one leg pretty badly, but it is slowly healing now. It's gone from black and blue, to green to a sickly pale yellow and I have a discernible ankle again. Everything should be in good working order by the time the day rolls around. Jerry |

Subject: RE: BS: what did ya do today? From: Tannywheeler Date: 06 Aug 05 - 11:03 AM Jerry, get some red-label Tiger Balm for those greensicklypaleyellow bruises. Rub on generously, cover with some fabric. Healing goes faster, pain relief is a blessing. Improves the sense of well-being, never a bad thing to do. Party hearty. Sing a few for me. Tw |
