9 hours ago, I was here at The Café and then I wasn't. My nephew got rid of it with Malwarebytes'. But... nothing there would work until he renamed the fix and ran it... he's a puter guy. He was here for over three hours.

I have a headache.

Oh... to avoid confusion... the virus is "WinPC Antivirus". If you ever get it, you'll know it.

Check out the Malwarebytes' site... good stuff.

With apologies to "Bread"

"I found a virus today on my PC
It told my PC to fuck me.
Mudcat was no longer before my eyes
It came as such a big surprise.
I could not read or post, my friends were locked away....
With no 4 leaf clover, I was fucked over."

etc..........

Spaw

If you rename the program that must be run to remove the virus (Malwarebytes in this case), then the virus doesn't recognize it and it doesn't block it...accordingly the virus gets cleaned off your system. I know this by hearsay, though, haven't done it myself.

I presume you rename the executable file that runs the antivirus program.

The trouble is once you have something masquerading as an antivirus program which itself sets out to screw up your computer, how can you ever trust anything that claims to eliminate it not to be doing exactly the same thing...

Might be something helpful in the following thread"

Although the WinPC Antivirus may be a new and "improved" progeny of MS Antivirus.

Good luck.

There are a number of well known malware programs for removing viruses, McGrath. Malwarebytes is one of them. Spybot Search and Destroy is another. ESET NOD32 Antivirus is another. If you are in doubt as to whether a program is trustworthy, call up your local computer store and ask them. They will know.
