Subject: RE: Pete Morton Congratulations. From: Joe Offer Date: 27 Sep 20 - 05:45 PM I saw Pete Morton perform at Whitby, so I've always assumed him to be English. But so many of his songs sound American. Where's he from? -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Pete Morton Congratulations. From: FreddyHeadey Date: 27 Sep 20 - 08:42 PM Leicester https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Pete_Morton#Biography Definitely English ,,,, here he is chatting with Maggie Boyle https://youtu.be/zUj51D6aEZY?t=50s |
Subject: RE: Pete Morton Congratulations. From: Vic Smith Date: 28 Sep 20 - 06:25 AM That sounds strange to me, Joe. I always think of Pete as an arche-typal English performer. You may have been sitting behind me at that concert in Whitby. You certainly were at one Whitby concert. |
Subject: RE: Pete Morton Congratulations. From: FreddyHeadey Date: 28 Sep 20 - 12:08 PM https://youtu.be/j7PnGq7Da_g?t=51s I quite often hear if in him Joe. It not always the case but this one shows him sounding Americanised to me. I couldn't explain it but I think his delivery style sounds American too. [Haven't we got another thread about British artists singing in Ameraccent?] |
Subject: RE: Pete Morton Congratulations. From: Joe Offer Date: 28 Sep 20 - 12:49 PM Mind you, I saw him perform only once at Whitby, in 2002, back when I was young and cute. And I'm an old man now and my memory's imperfect - but I THINK it was Pete Coe and I thought he was English, but he sounded very American to me. I loved that recording you linked to, Freddy. The Irish performers I was hearing about the same time also sounded American - singing country music with a twang. Nobody's trying to be American these days. We've lost whatever good reputation we had. -Joe- |
Subject: RE: Pete Morton Congratulations. From: Anne Lister Date: 28 Sep 20 - 04:51 PM Joe, Pete Coe and Pete Morton are very definitely English, and also very different individuals! And both have songwriting styles which are also very idiosyncratic and not American. Had you perhaps supped freely of fine ale at Whitby? |
