Subject: Is this a folk song? From: MairSea Date: 24 Mar 03 - 08:21 AM Last night I heard a song on the radio and each verse started with the word 'Completely ..' Completely round.... completely square... completely rectangular.... I wasn't quick enough to get the words down and wondered if this was an old Folk song or just a comedy song. Please help if you can. Thank you very much. If someone has the words and tune I'd be very grateful. I checked the DT but either missed it or it's not there. Love and Peace to you all. |
Subject: RE: Is this a folk song? From: Allan C. Date: 24 Mar 03 - 08:34 AM I won't try to define it as to whether it is a folk song. However, I will point out a discussion of it in this thread. |

Subject: RE: Is this a folk song? From: MairSea Date: 24 Mar 03 - 09:34 AM Thanks for the help folks. I think it was Blossom Dearie who sang it last night. I have found the words in the link you gave AllanC so thank you very much, now all I have to do is get a tune and learn it. :-) I should have named this "Word/music help for this song" rather than the titi;e I gave it - sorry. |

Subject: RE: Is this a folk song? From: Steve Parkes Date: 24 Mar 03 - 12:30 PM It's a folksong if they let you sing it in a fok club! Several people have sung it at Bedford FMC, some professionally. If they don't like it at you local, send 'em to Hilary Spencer for her opinion! Steve |

Subject: RE: Is this a folk song? From: Sooz Date: 24 Mar 03 - 03:40 PM I've sung it in lots of folk clubs - no complaints (that I heard). I still maintain that virtually any song is a folk song - it depends how you sing it.This has been discussed many times in various threads. |

Subject: RE: Is this a folk song? (Shape of Things) From: Dave Bryant Date: 26 Mar 03 - 06:57 AM I've never wasted time worrying if a song is "folk" or not - if it will go down well with the audience and I enjoy singing it, that's good enough for me. I have heard "The Shape of Things" sung in folk clubs many times and it always seems to be well appreciated. In fact, I've been nagging Linda to learn it for some time now. |
