Thanks Ross, had a look on there yesterday its seems not to have been up dated since 2003. Just wondered if anyone had seen them recently.

Did they really meet down lovers lane? How did you know that.

Hi PA

I had a look at the Laners website - don't look the Lovers Lane type to me. (Check out the shirts). Why are so many folkies called Dave, Derek and Martin? Enjoy your evening.

It was a nice evening at Dunstable yesterday. I hadn't seen Bert or Pat since the New Year and it was good to catch up on Winter weather on a houseboat. They will be at Barton next week.

How late into 2007 can you still say Happy New Year to people without looking like you're a nerd with a comic relief red nose on your car 6 months after the event?

And to finish the News with the weather report - snow has melted away in sunny Stevenage. I was very thoughtful and cleared the snow off my husband's car windows this morning. It was great fun - I wanted to do the whole cul de sac.

BTW. A white van marked 'Data Agency' or suchlike drove at a snail's pace in, around and out of the road yesterday lunchtime. Very disconcerting. What information do you think they could they be collecting?

Nothing sucks like a Dyson - that's what the workers thought when they moved their factory to Indonesia

Ooerr, I'm glad you told us that, Ross. We'd better not do that then. Those dinosaurs would make a right mess of the garden... but at least they might scare off next door's cats. Hmmm, maybe it's not such a bad idea after all...

Have a good time at Redbourn tonight. (I can't go as we're doing our gig mentioned above, in The Lord Roberts, Mkt Sq, Sandy, Beds, from 7:30 pm, free entry, haggis for all, tonight. Not that I'm plugging it of course) :-)

Dyson's are rubbish!
They're too heavy, too fiddley, too temperamental, they don't get into the corners, not even with the tools. Mine has sat at the top of the stairs for 3 years, I only use it for doing easy bits upstairs. I've got a real vac for downstairs.

Ranting Finished - its safe to come out now.

I'm with you PA. My old Dyson's in the loft - I think the new models may be better. Wasn't there a thread about Dysons?

What's even more worrying is that Ross may be spending his spare starry nights in the garden, pointing his vacuum cleaner at the heavens and analysing the effects on the moon. I bet the flowers run and hide when they see him coming.

Yes Cathie, I too would be worried about Ross, anyone who makes a living from measuring bricks has to be watched very carefully. Ross has probably seen the flowers running and hiding...................
Going to see the Laners tonight will report back tomorrow, has anybody seen them, will I be the only person there??? Could the room be full of lonely Dyson's on a night out?

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds

I don't understand what all the problem is with measuring bricks. I thought they were all roughly the same size (approx 9" x 3" x 4.5" or something like that). Why not just measure one, then say the rest are all the same size as that, and you could take the rest of the day off?

Subject: RE: New Year at the Bull, Barton-in-mud,Beds

Well exactly - I think it may be a cover for something else. Measuring up bricks, hoovering up the stars ????????????? something not quite right there.

Go on - mock the inflicted - just because I'm certified

One brick's fine - but you buggers (the general public) want them stuck together so they form ghastly shaped boxes to live, work and play in

I'm measuring a block of flats today that would make a klingon armpit look attractive

And they've taken me hoover away and given me a broom - where should I stick it?

I'm not going to Redbourn or Sandy tonight - I'm going to Winkwell

Did the Daleks evolve from a vacuum cleaner?

Cheers for the joke PA

Our new house, should we get planning permission ha! is not made of bricks, its wood. Do you measure planks.

Oh no, now there's going to be a billion posts telling my why we should not have a house made of wood !!!!!!!!!!

Wheelie bins have evolved from daleks, some of them speak! They tell the council if you're throwing too much away, they have a chip (its probably on their shoulder).

I suppose so - we have posh words like carpentry & joinery

I only get them infrequently

Wood is not bad - it works very well in other countries

It takes a lot of the hastle out of building a house

Have a good time at the Laners tonight

I'm off now to point me broom at the moon

And have a good time tonight who ever you may be and where ever you may go

I wouldn't measure wood - it comes in all different shapes, sizes and lengths. Stick to bricks - much more straightforward.

Morning all, went to see the Laners last night at our local club. Can highly recommend them fantastic voices and harmonies, great humour, mainly shanties and songs about some bloke call John Barleycorn (who's he? he wasn't very popular, loads of people wanted to kill him). Guest appearance from Malcolm the Mallard, who joined in on a song about a dog called Timmy who sank a ship. Very sad song about horses in the first world war, they almost couldn't sing it. Great night. In two weeks we got two chaps who play guitars and stuff and then two weeks after that we've got George.

Nasty day here sleet, grey skies, very cold and people driving around with no lights on at 7.30 in the morning. Off to Gt Yarmouth tomorrow and back in the same day. Must be mad. Loads of work to do. Have a good weekend all.

Don't you mean "I still don't know who he was" - I thought he was dead :-)

There have been Mudcat threads explaining the song if you want to search for them, but basically the song is about one of the most important activities in the world, i.e. making ale from barley (JB is the personification of that wonderful beverage). Well, that's my view and I'm sticking to it - there are probably lots of other interpretations (there always are when it comes to these old folk songs :-))

Glad you had a good time at the folk club. Our gig went down OK, although there weren't as many people there as we hoped for. Still, it must have been OK because the landlady gave us a 'wee dram'. Another one tonight, this time we're doing a PTA barn dance in a village hall - more neeps, tatties and haggis (not sure if we'll get any free malt whisky this time though! But fingers crossed... :-D)

I'm not planning to eat haggis, neeps or tatties this weekend - I'll have had my fill of 'em by then.

I was a travelling folkie yesterday and enjoyed the Folkaholics very much at Winkwell. You all were very well received by the customers and bar staff. The photos I took aren't too bad, so I could print some, forge signatures and go round the pub selling them.

It all sounded very spirited, yet unobtrusive. The range of instruments and songs added variety, the songs were a mixture of humourous and serious and there were opportunities for all there to join in from time to time.

Allan was brilliant. I am glad you enjoyed the evening Scrump. His song about the man with the cracked china cups who had problems breathing really caught me unawares - thank goodness he had given me my tissues back by then. A lot of the other songs he sang were on his last CD and it was good to hear them live again.

Q. What does a folkie want with two Dysons?

Sure can PA - what are you like in a helicopter?

Our weather girl on Look East is called Sally Weather and she does everything apart from tell you the weather

We see her dancing and singing and visiting exotic places and generally playing I'm a celebrity

Local news is often shelved in favour of more worldly news with tenuous links - if a war breaks out anywhere, then you can bet that the key players would have either gone to school in Norwich or carry handbags made in Suffolk

A14 - thats just up the B28938

In a helicopter? well much the same as I am on the ground? We have the weather but no news, Midlands Today concentrates on Wolverhampton and the local newspaper reports on Droitwich which is miles away.

I didnt realise Suffolk is the handbag manufacturing centre of the world, must admit I didnt notice much handbag carrying on my journey. Lots of big lorries though, maybe they kept their handbags in the glove compartment, along with their gloves.

The question is - what do you keep in your glove compartment?

Travel news, please do not go too fast along Pikes Pool Lane, because the part that goes down hill under the byepass has gone lumpy and you will take off!

I don't use my glove compartment - it could be an entry point to Narnia for all I know

My car is filthy - how do you cure this problem?

Suffolk handbags are the finest in the world - made from the finest larks vomit - finely woven by trained Look East presenters

Do they still call it the black country (Wolverhampton) or isn't that PC anymore?

Narnia sounds like fun, perhaps Midlands Today could report from there.
Cure for muckey car - big bottle of washing up liquid and a power washer.
The black country is a very scarey place just on the edge of the forgotten forest, my husband travels there every day to the land of the big yellow digger. He get up very early before the border guards are awake.

Hi Scrump - you could be right - Sally might be on Anglia News - I have attention deficiency problems

I generally watch them both in tandem, so it all becomes a blur

It might even be Wendy Weather - whether she will or whether she won't?

Narnia's not fun - it's like St Albans - always winter and never Christmas

IT'S THE BULL TONIGHT - 31ST

February tomoorow
