Mark |
Subject: RE: Bert Jansch's lyrics request From: Phil Cooper Date: 06 Dec 03 - 10:39 AM Is that from Courting Blues? That would be from one of Bert's early albums. (There was a five minute pause while I looked to see if I could lay my hand on the Bert Jansch song book, published in 1967). Found the book. Here are the words: Green are your eyes in morning when you arise Don't you be afraid, to lie by me, my love Your father will not know. Love can be broken, though no words are spoken Don't you be afraid to lie, etc. Love be bold, we're not so old, Don't you be afraid, etc. Love don't cry, I'll not try Don't you, etc. (Last verse) Love don't cry, I'll not try Your father will be told someday About our wedding day. |
Subject: RE: Bert Jansch's lyrics request From: GUEST,m.charleston@ntlworld.com Date: 08 Dec 03 - 12:40 PM Hi Phil Just a big thanks for the lyrics to Courting Blues I'm re-learning all my old Bert Jansch stuff and various other obscure late 60's artists to play down at the local folk club after my daughter nagged me to death about it.But although I remember the picks , the lyrics are slowly fading .... old age I guess Bert has always been my main influence in style and delivery and the recent appearance on UK T.V. reminded me of just how much he changed the way I pick - Fast and Hard Mark |
Subject: RE: Bert Jansch's lyrics request From: Phil Cooper Date: 08 Dec 03 - 04:59 PM Mark, I've always enjoyed Bert's playing. Some of his original songs are just classics as far as I'm concerned. I also think he's done a lot to further interest in traditional music with his arrangements of those songs as well. Ornament tree is one of my favorite Bert albums. After that, Rosemary Lane, Moonshine, A Rare Conundrum are all high on the list. I saw him play in Chicago on a tour with Martin Jenkins in the early '80's. It was just after Avocet was released. Great song selection for the show. |
Subject: RE: Bert Jansch's lyrics request From: GUEST Date: 01 Jan 04 - 03:13 PM Well i rolled off a few Jansch numbers at the local accoustic night and they liked it ( strolling down the highway, anjie, running from home etc ) BUT have you kindly got thr lyrics to "rambling's going to be the death of me" Thanks Phil and a happy New Year mark |
Subject: Lyr Add: RAMBLING'S GOING TO BE THE DEATH OF ME From: Phil Cooper Date: 01 Jan 04 - 10:05 PM Mark, As a matter of fact, now that I know where the book is: Yes. Ask me why a rambler ain't got no home Ask me why I sit and cry alone. I wish I knew, if I knew I'd know what to do. Day in, day out seems I'm running all on my own Day in Day out, there's a weakness growing in my bones But it ain't no use; no it ain't no use My mind is dead I gotta turn my body loose. Wish mama you could hear the words that I cry Wish mama now if only I could die But my time is late; my time is late, I'm on my own and Lord I've got it straight. No girl I've loved has ever held me down No reason can I give for leaving this town My love is true, now my love is true But the road is long, gotta see my journey through. Girl don't deny the freedom that's born in me Girl don't deny that a rambler must always be free Someday you'll see, someday you'll see That my ramblin's gonna be the death of me. |
