Subject: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: ranger1 Date: 22 May 07 - 09:44 PM Tomorrow (Wednesday the 23rd), I go for an interview for a year-round ranger job. It's technically a lateral transfer, but it's really a huge step up for me. Not only is it more or less my dream job, but it also comes with housing. This means no more scraping in the winter to pay the bills and possibly being able to save up for bigger and better things (like retirement in 30 years or a house). So, I will accept any and all well wishing done on my behalf. My interview is at 2:00 PM mudcat time. Did I mention I was nervous? |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: GUEST Date: 23 May 07 - 05:59 AM Tami, You KNOW you can do the job!!!so that part is sewn up, convincing them may take a little bit longer but you can do it, remember YOU are interviewing THEM as much as they are interviewing you!!! You are trying to decide if YOu want to work with THEM also. I went for interview once for a job that I THOUGHT looked perfect for me,and on paper, it was. but the staff interviewing me revealed so much about the organisation and themselves as a bunch of A****oles that ,when offered it , I turned it down. My suggestion to you is, " be as relaxed as you can be",If necessary Pause and take a coupla deep breaths before answering a question, if you are uncertain about what they are asking, ASK them to explain what they want. Uf they give you the classic " what would you do if..." be prepared to say "Refer to my supervisor" or"Look it up in the Manual" NO one expects you to carry the complete" Rules and Regulations relating to interactions with the Public in Stae and National Parks 1978 in your head!! oh and(although I am sure it will play no part compared to your real skills and knowledge) Good Luck!!! |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: Jeri Date: 23 May 07 - 06:48 AM I can't see how they'd possibly turn you down for the job. Then again, I don't know who else is applying, and they may be way bett... sorry. Positive thinking. Seriously, I can't see how you'd not get this. I can't judge ranger job skills, but on personality and qualities one looks for when hiring, you're looking good. Good luck - I'll be cheering you on at 2. |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: kendall Date: 23 May 07 - 07:47 AM Let's examine the facts. First, you are totally qualified. Such organizations usually hire in house people rather than go out into the general population, your present superiors know you, and, finally, the job is in the arm pit of Maine. Who, besides you, would even want to move to that part of the world? Go girl! PM to follow. |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: ranger1 Date: 23 May 07 - 07:33 PM WOW! Gotta love my Mudcat family! I think the interview went pretty well, considering I was nervous as a long-tailed cat in a room full of rocking chairs, but I'm in that "Oh dear, I should have said x and maybe should have left out y and I forgot to ask z" kind of mode right now. It also depends a lot on who else interviewed. I think I have an edge on most of the rangers, but if there is a seasonal manager willing to take a demotion there won't be a whole lot I can do about it. I'll know by the end of the week one way or the other. Thanks, everyone! |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: Helen Date: 24 May 07 - 12:00 AM Having been in the "how am I going to pay the bills in summer" casual work situation for the last 10 years, and having finally scored a permanent, full year job a few months ago, I am sending you the absolute max of prayers & good thoughts. The waiting to find out is the hard part, so you just need to let go and think good thoughts. If this one doesn't eventuate for you, you never know what can be around the corner, and it could be even better. Love, light & hugs from Helen in Oz. |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: Bat Goddess Date: 24 May 07 - 07:41 AM I kept extremely positive thoughts beamed in your direction yesterday, Tami! (Well, not just yesterday!) That job has your name written all over it! And I hope you don't mind if I borrow your thread to ask for some good thoughts for myself -- I've got a Date With Destiny -- an interview for a job I really, really want -- at 5:30 this (Thursday) afternoon . (Right after what will probably be a day from hell at my current job.) Interviews for backup positions are in place, "just in case", but I really would like this one -- and I came highly recommended by a friend who was doing some consulting for the company. Interesting job, considerably less stress, more fun, more money, real holidays and days off without having to work unpaid hours to make up for them. The amazing thing is the company is located in the same position as the printing company I started working for almost 25 years ago. AND it's a shorter drive to work on a pleasant road. (And, as my friend the consultant pointed out, there are more interesting lunch places in Newmarket than there are in the town where she works.) Good thoughts and prayers welcomed! Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: Micca Date: 24 May 07 - 07:54 AM All the best to you too Linn, the same advice as I gave above applies to you!! but the best wishes are all your own |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: Bee Date: 24 May 07 - 09:33 AM Good luck to both of you job seekers. ;-) And if I had it all to do over again, I'd love to be a ranger... or a veterinarian... or an archaeologist... Fine Arts... what was I thinking! |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: Bat Goddess Date: 24 May 07 - 01:31 PM Graphic arts -- publications -- insane deadlines & no backup! -- what was I thinking?!? I always wanted to be a marine archaeologist -- lots of lucrative job possibilities there... ;-) Linn |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: Peace Date: 24 May 07 - 01:36 PM Dangerous work, though. Marines get shot at. |

Subject: RE: BS: Good thoughts appreciated From: Bat Goddess Date: 24 May 07 - 07:48 PM I think it was a good interview -- but I'm only the start of their interviews. I really want this job. (I really want to escape the madhouse I'm in -- and this looks like the most stress-free and fun opportunity that I've seen in a long while.) I've got another interview with a different company next Tuesday afternoon. It's only a matter of time -- but I'd really like this job. Linn |
