HELLO THERE. AS MY FRIENDS WHO WON THE YORKSHIRE TEA WILL KNOW, I HAVE BEEN HAVEING GREAT DIFFICULTY IN POSTING THEM. BASICALLY THEY AREN'T RECIEVING THEM. AFTER 3 ATTEMPTS THE ONLY THING LEFT TO DO IS TO ASK A FELLOW MUDCATTER TO TAKE THEM OVER FOR ME AND POST THEM IN AMERICA. I WILL PROVIDE ALL COSTS NEEDED FOR THE POSTAGE OF THE TEABAGS.

SO IF ANYONE COULD HELP ME I WOULD BE EVER SO GRATEFUL.

THANKS

NO NEED TO SHOUT!

One problem you may be encountering is that I understand that US customs forbids import of foodstuffs.

John

I concur about the shouting. An all caps message does NOT allow one to highlight specfic words, or phrases.

Anyway, customs would possibly have fits about such products coming through. I know Canada also has restrictions on some kinds of plant, foods, etc. Check with the local customs officials in your country first.

It's not worth it to bring it in for someone else. If you get caught YOU are the one with the record, not the person you are bringing it in for.

Have you been honest on the customs declaration? That's dangerous...

Perhaps you could call it a 'herbal product' which would be true.

Sorry, no US travel plans here, Em.

Noreen

Another alternative might be to order the tea to be delivered to the winner from Goodwood's British Market. I am not sure the price and what would have been the cost of postage would be equal to their prices/shipping; but I suspect the convenience might be worth whatever difference there might be.

The last time tea was sent over to them colonials, they got all huffy about it and dumped it in the harbour.
Some people never learn, do they ;-)

It wasn't the tea, it was VAT. Now they stick you with it.

I'd be surprised if tea can not be sent for customs reasons but I have never tried it. The only food product I was involved with sending (my mother did it) was some locally produced honey to the US and that got through OK with an honest declaration.

Good to see this thread. I was tempted to thrrow in some Okie Dokie Chese covered popcorn in a package I recently sent to my friend Ian, over in England. What if they had opened the package, or a dog smelled the delicious aroma of cheese covered popcorn. I decided not to do it. If Ian wants some Okie Dokie cheese covered popcorn, he'll just have to come over and get some.

Besides, I bet they would have eaten the evidence.

Jerry

Of course you can bring in tea through Customs. (I have dione it twice, and Vegemite as well).

The customs regulations are there to protect against infection. Don't attempt haggis or Cornish pasties, but you will have no hassle from Customs with a sealed pack pf tea.

There are many businesses in the USA who specialize solely in the retail of UK foodstuffs.

If it were meat or a fruit or vegetable that could bring in a potentially harmful fungus or bug, it would be difficult. There is nothing wrong with sending tea, provided you stipulate on the customs declaration that it is dried and packaged, and not fresh green tea.

(Thanks to Carol in Customs & Excise for the info. The Inland Revenue get them involved sometimes when investigating activities of certain 'taxpayers'... well, if it can get Al Capone.....?!)

Don't bother, Bill. I know how busy you are. If Jez will sponsor the ticket, I'll gladly come over and fetch it back across.

It's just reminded me of something I had promised to do. I have put some more tea up for auction.

a friend mailed Vegemite from Australia to my Vermont inlaws for Christmas.

Why? I'm not sure, but they got it.

I concur with the HAGGIS!

Heather got busted at Canadian customs for trying to bring in little teeny-weeny cans of genuine scottish haggis. They said it was not fit for Canadian consumption (or something like that)

I have brought over biscuits and Weetabix and other packaged treats from the UK to the US with no problem whatsoever...I did however face some probems with henna (they eventually let me have it) and plant material (twigs, apples, nutshells and other little sacred site memorabilia) which they confiscated.

Glad they did not do a body search, that is all I got to say.

I found Yorkshire Tea in a gift shop in San Diego Oldtown. Cost $12 for eighty bags though!
