Subject: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 20 Feb 02 - 10:39 AM Joe, or anyone else! The Family Keepsakes Thread is getting kind long. I know I can just start a new thread title and keep it going. Is there anything else I need to do? Is there a way to transfer messages from an earlier thread to a current one, without just re-typing the whole thing? How can I make a blue clicky to direct people back to part I?
A new kid on the block. Jerry |

Subject: RE: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: MMario Date: 20 Feb 02 - 10:44 AM Jerry - the EASY way is to get someone else to do it for you! *grin* directions for doing the blue clickies are in the newcomer's FAQ (first thread on the page) - If I start a "Part II" I usually leave a clickie on my last post in part I that leads to part II and then clickie back to part I in the first post of part II. YOu can use cut and paste to move a short section of part one to part II if you feel it is necessary. |

Subject: RE: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: katlaughing Date: 20 Feb 02 - 10:45 AM Well, first of all, Jerrydarlin'....this is usually the kind of question which belongs in the Help Forum, but since yer all shiny and new as a copper penny AND wrote some great songs, we'll let ya slide by...this time.**BG** You can highlight the messages you want to include in a Part Two, then hit your control key, then the letter "C," then when you get your part two started, in your first post, hit the control key, again, and the "V" key and that will paste it in. Or instead of using the keys, you can highlight, then choose Edit, Copy etc. As to blue clickys...get thee hence to the Mudcat FAQs Permathread, there's a really good and easy explanation on how to do them. If you have any trouble holler and I will help you with the whole shebang. kat |

Subject: RE: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 20 Feb 02 - 12:28 PM Sorry... blame it on my youth... no need for more help.. I'm not trying to get someone to do it for me... I want to be able to do it myself...
Thanks Jerry |

Subject: RE: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: katlaughing Date: 20 Feb 02 - 02:27 PM That's right, what MMario said, Jerry. No need to apologise and I was only teasin'...I'd be happy to help when and if you need it. Looks as though you got it started just fine. So...how do you feel about the moniker, "Kid Jerry?" **Kidding, just kidding!** All the best, kat |

Subject: RE: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 20 Feb 02 - 03:36 PM Hey, "Kid" sounds young. My Dad called me Slewfoot. I've used that as a moniker on another community.. Real life has impinged on my Mudcat existence, and I've been putting together some cabinets all afternoon, so I haven't tried the blue clicky thing yet, although I do believe I've found out how to do it. I'll give it a try if I can, later today.
I know that everything you ever wanted to know (and a lot you didn't) is in the FAQ threads. But man, you'd have to dedicate three lifetimes to read it all. I've always been a "I wonder what happens when you push this button\ type. That's how I learned to play instruments. Found out how to tune the thing, and then just tried to play it. I've always left understanding things for later, and never get around to it.
Thanks for the offers, Supermario and Cat Who Laughs. I'll take you up on them if I get stuck.. Jerry the younger |

Subject: RE: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: katlaughing Date: 20 Feb 02 - 03:41 PM Me, too, JtY (I like that!)...i hate reading manuals, just like to jump in with both feet and see how that sucker floats.:-) Looks as though I spoke too soon and Jim Dixon beat you to a Part Two, but I am sure you'll find more opportunities for blue clickys. BTW, which hammer are you using?:-) katwhodoesindeedlaugh |

Subject: RE: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: MMario Date: 20 Feb 02 - 03:43 PM Jerry - I point pople to the FAQ because I can never remmeber how to make the instructions SHOW UP posted in a thread. |

Subject: RE: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 20 Feb 02 - 04:03 PM Kat Who Laughs:
You figured it out. I went downstairs to put together a pre-fab pantry cabinet, and realized that in order for it to fit firmly against the wall I would have to remove the baseboard. So, I went out into our attached garage to find a hammer. (We moved here to Derby, CT last Spring, and the garage is the one place where everything is still stacked, floor to ceiling.) Sure enough, there was my Grandfather's hammer crying "Use me, Use me!!! I didn't see either of my other "good hammers" around, and I had to myself. So I picked up my grandfather's hammer and it worked fine.
And yes, Jim Dixon kindly created a new thread for me while I was downstairs deconstructing the baseboard with my Grandfather's hammer. Jerry, Who Also Laughs Freely |

Subject: RE: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 20 Feb 02 - 06:09 PM It's been suggested to me, when I've done this, that it's a good idea to copy the opening post from the original thread into the opening poist of the part 2. That seems a good idea to me, and it only takes a few more seconds..
The thing about long threads is that's it's not just an inconvenience of it taking a long time to load - for some people a long thread just will not load. So they can't open up Part 1 at all, once it's stretched out long enough to get a Part 2. "What's all this about?"... |

Subject: RE: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: Noreen Date: 20 Feb 02 - 07:07 PM Jerry, this clickieshould take you direct to the relevant section of the FAQ, and will have you clickie-ing all over the place in no time, hammer or no. Then you'll be showing other people how to do it... Noreen |

Subject: RE: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: Noreen Date: 20 Feb 02 - 07:30 PM Well, it's supposed to take you to the Basic Mudcat HTML guide, which you can find from the FAQ index if this doesn't take you there. html seems to be acting differently on my computer recently- perhaps it's aol? |

Subject: RE: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: McGrath of Harlow Date: 20 Feb 02 - 08:13 PM Basic Mudcat HTML guide, I hope. |

Subject: RE: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: Noreen Date: 20 Feb 02 - 08:21 PM Nope, that just takes me to the top of the thread, Kevin, as my link does. Does it take anyone else direct to the html guide? In other words, is it Mudcat html interpretation that has changed, or that on my computer? Noreen |

Subject: RE: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: Jerry Rasmussen Date: 20 Feb 02 - 08:30 PM Thanks, all! Maybe I'll have to start a Part II to this thread, if people keep being so helpful. Noreen, I did find the blue clickie directions (after Jim Dixon kindly already beat me to the clickie.) That's all right, though. The Who Killed Folk Music Thread is approaching 100, so maybe I'll practice on that one. And thanks, McGrath for the suggestion of transferring the first message in Part I. I would have done it, if I had figured it out in time. Because I didn't, I tried to summarize what the thread was about. And, Ian thinks that your CD is wonderful, McGrath.. He thought it was a fine example of doing a CD on a modest budget. Jerry |

Subject: RE: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: MMario Date: 21 Feb 02 - 08:01 AM The clickies take me to the indicated spot - NOT the top of the thread. I'm using Netscape - that may be the difference. |

Subject: RE: Help: How do I start a Part II thread? From: Noreen Date: 21 Feb 02 - 06:28 PM Thanks MMario; it must be aol on my home computer that's causing the probs, as it gets me to the right place here where I'm using ie. |
