Subject: Lyr Req: Liza Wakes Up Early in the Morning From: Janie Date: 15 Oct 03 - 12:09 PM I am looking for the lyrics to this song. As is usual, I am unsure of the title, author, or even from where I first heard/learned the song. What I remember of the song goes like this: Chorus: Liza wakes up early in the mornin' Kickin' at her husband and yellin' at her kids. "Wake up, wake up. I'm givin' you a warnin' Or I'll give you a (hoppin'?) fist." "Today is Monday tomorrow is Tuesday Wednesday will soon be comin' on. You better get up and get movin' The week's half over And the washin' ain't done!" And then there are more verses? Thanks, Janie |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Liza Wakes Up Early in the Morning From: GUEST,Sarah T. Date: 16 Oct 03 - 11:39 PM Hey, I learned that one in elementary school! Sorry I can't help with title or origins ... but perhaps I can help with one line: Get up, get up, I'm giving you a warning Or I'll give you the hopping fits! --Sarah |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Liza Wakes Up Early in the Morning From: GUEST,Dale Date: 17 Oct 03 - 12:39 AM Hmmm. That is by Linda Williams of Robin and Linda Williams. She got the ". . . week's half over and the washin' ain't done" phrasing from a neighbor lady and built the song around it. Sorry I can't do any better than that at the moment. |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Liza Wakes Up Early in the Morning From: Jim Dixon Date: 26 Oct 03 - 07:37 PM Here's Robin & Linda Williams' discography on their website. It lists 16 albums going back to 1975. Click on an album title and it will bring up a list of song titles and sometimes lyrics. I was unable to find anything in the list that matches what you quoted, but maybe you will have better luck. Maybe you will at least recognize an album title. If that fails, you could contact robin@robinandlinda.com. Whatever you find, please come back here and post the result. |

Subject: Lyr Add: LIZA (Robin and Linda Williams) From: Jim Dixon Date: 01 May 09 - 10:22 AM OK, here's a transcription from the YouTube video. (It's what I do....) LIZA Robin Williams 1. Now Liza wakes up early in the mornin' Kickin' at her husband an' yellin' at her kids: "Get up! Get out! I'm givin' you a warnin', Or I'll give you the hoppin' fits. Today is Monday. Tomorrow is Tuesday. Wednesday'll soon be comin' on. You better get up an' get movin'. The week's half over an' the washin' ain't done." 2. Sister had a habit o' suckin' on toothpicks. Junior had a habit of a-dippin' snuff. Granny had a habit o' chewin' tobacco, And she spit her juice in an ol' tin cup. Brother Joe he chased women, An' papa had a habit o' drinkin' wine. Liza had a habit o' blisterin' the air An' makin' ever' one o' them toe the line. 3. Now the other day was a terrible sight When Liza and Cayson(?) got into a fight. He was sneakin' down the gully with the chickens in his hands When he ran into Liza with a butcher knife. He grabbed that rail an' he took his stance And he swung for to give ol' Liza a whack. Liza did the dodge and Liza did the dance As she cut Joe's shirt right off o' his back. 4. Now the funniest story I ever did hear, Liza woke one night and took to her ear(?). Out through the window in the pale moonlight, She saw a stranger in the garden just as big as life. She grabbed that gun an' gave the triggers a pull, An' she fed that stranger two barrels full. Come daylight, the people wanted to know Who blasted down the new scarecrow. [REPEAT VERSE 1. REPEAT LAST LINE OF VERSE 1.] |
