Hi, Jessica,

We hope you are well and happy after your birthday. What kind of music do you like? It would be great to hear from you if you could write sometime with your mom. There are people here from all over the world, and we'd love to hear from you.

OK, McG. Prayer is Prayer. And bein' poetry doesn't hurt. Rep. Lloyd Doggett has been put in the loop. His office will get a copy of the Litany.    Tw

P.S. I tried posting this on Sunday when I read that fine "edit" job you'd done on Cindy's posts. Somehow it wound up on the Getaway 2004 thread. Let's keep after it.

Hi Jessica!

I'm glad you're writing to us here in the Mudcat. I hope you get your Dad back soon, too. Dads are very important. (And mothers too.)

My favorite music is circus music. I like to play it on my accordion.

Have fun listening to your music!

Carol

There's some circus music on this page - Woodman Circus (go to the bottom of the page and there the tunes are).

And there's a walking tiger.

And a bit of information I never knew, which it might be as well to know: "Circus bands never play John Philip Sousa's Stars and Stripes Forever as a part of their regular program. It is reserved for emergency use. If an animal gets loose, a high wind threatens the tent, or a fire breaks out, the band plays the march as warning signal to every worker on the circus lot that something is wrong."

They don't have the Stars and Stripes Forever on that page, but here it is - so if you're at the circus and hear it, you've been warned...

I am sorry to say I have heard from my friend at the Maury show. She read the letter and apologises, but it is not the type of subject they use for their shows. I knew it was a long shot, anyway, but still had some hope. I am really sorry. I hope some of the Congresspeople come through.

And here's a modified version of what I posted earlier.

A Litany for Jessica

"In a certain town there was a judge who neither feared God nor cared about men. And there was a widow in that town who kept coming to him with the plea, 'Grant me justice'

"For some time he refused. But finally he said to himself, 'Even though I don't fear God or care about men, yet this widow keeps bothering me. I will see that she gets justice, so that she won't eventually wear me out with her coming!'

"We hired an attorney here to write us an appeal"
                                                    but he has told me
He's the kind of lawyer who can only do the legal stuff
                                                   he has told me
And he can in no way try to press the government to do anything to help me
                                                 That's what he told me

Since I have been back I have written endless letters
Since I have been back I have called so many times.

To the senators and congressmen who've sponsored immigration bills
                                                    I have written
to the President and to the Vice President
                                                      I have written
to every presidential candidate,
                                                    I have written
to Secretary of State Colin Powell,
                                                    I have written
to the Governer of Pennsylvania,
                                                    I have written.

Since I have been back I have written endless letters
Since I have been back I have called so many times.

To the Reading Eagle    newspaper
                                                 I have written.
to the Oprah Winfrey show, the Montel Williams show, the Maury Povich show,
                                                 I have written
to channel 10,15,69,15
                                              I have written
to all the stations we get here
                                              I have written.

Since I have been back I have written endless letters
Since I have been back I have called so many times.

To the Federation for American Immigration Reform
                                              I have written
to the Lutheran Immigration & Refugee services,
                                              I have written
to the Immigration and Naturalization Service
                                              I have written
to the Citizenship and Immigration Services Ombudsman Prakash I. Khatri
                                             I have written.

Since I have been back I have written endless letters
Since I have been back I have called so many times.

To Attorney General Ashcroft,
                                             I have written
to Rev. Jesse Jackson,
                                             I have written
to the American Center for Law & Justice
                                          I have written
to the American Civil Liberties Union,
                                           I have written

Since I have been back I have written endless letters
Since I have been back I have called so many times.

"There is nothing we can do" ,
                                           that's what they tell me.
"There is nothing we can do" ,
                                           that's what they tell me.

And Congressman Trent Franks,
                                           here's what he told me,
And Senator Arlen Spector,
here's 's what he told me,
And Congressman Joe Pitts
                                          here's what he told me.
"All we can do is to see where in line the paperwork is
and how long it will be before a decision is made" –
"All we can do is to see where in line the paperwork is
and how long it will be before a decision is made" –
                                           that's what they told me.

And they can't even give me an answer on that.

And at Congressman Frank's office
                                             I talk to Brian,
And at Congressman Pitts' office
                                           I talk to Nicholas,
but they've nothing to say that helps –
                                           that's what they've shown me.

Since I have been back I have written endless letters
Since I have been back I have called so many times.

Since we have been back
                                          I have letters
from Doctors in white coats,
                                          I have letters
and from Counsellors in suits
                                        I have letters,
and from Teachers out of school,
                                        I have letters
and from Social Workers too
                                        I have letters.
They say that that Jess is in crisis,
                                       that's what they tell me
And her mind cannot take nor understand what has happened,
                                     that's what they tell me
And if something isn't done she will crack,
                                    that's what they tell me
and she will have to be put in a institution,
which will end up being permanent,
                                    that's what they tell me
And this is a medical emergency and Jess is in crisis –
they don't need to tell me.
                                                                            *crying*

Sorry, I cannot let this happen.
The government
is trying to make me choose
between my husband who is the love of my life
they're trying to make me choose
and my daughter, who is my life,
they're trying to make me choose

And they say we have to prove that there is hardship,
And I say this goes beyond just hardship.
This is inhumane. This isn't human.

This is why I decided to start posting on message boards,
                            and I keep on writing
By myself I have gotten nowhere,
                               but I keep on writing
The hope that there is strength in numbers
                              ...is our only hope.
The hope that there is strength in numbers
                            ...that is our only hope.

Keep on writing. Keep on writing.
                            Help me keep on fighting.
                           Help me keep on fighting

Since I have been back I have written endless letters
Since I have been back I have called so many times.

                                 Please will you help me.

She does too, and not bad either - and if you click on that link I gave to - "the official site"here, and then on the bar saying "Check out the Freaky Friday Soundtrack" (with the Audio button at the end of the line turned to "on"), you get the track list - and number three down is ""What I Like About You" with a video click.

But don't click it without turning down the volume if someone is trying to get to sleep next door! Good stuff.

Hi Cindy,

I have been following this thread and have read your website. Not meaning to sound rude or ignorant, but why is it exactly that your daughter may need to be institutionalized for life if her father is not here? Also, what kind of medical therapies has she had to reduce behavior issues? I am assuming that if her need is severe that medical treatment has been required. In addition, how often does Jessica talk to her father on the phone? What is her behavior like after she speaks to him?

A Curious Bystander

If Curious Stranger would register as a member it would be possible for this kind of thing to be discussed by PM, which might be more appropriate and less intrusive.

But the judgement that this is what might happen, if things aren't sorted out, appears to be that of a number of professional workers who are involved.   And if you think that kind of thing doesn't happen, Curious, perhaps you do not haver much experience about the way services are all too often organised, or about the impact of stressful circumstances on very vulnerable people. Which makes you quite lucky really.

Curious Stranger I have also been following the endeavours of individuals trying to help people in need, who knows where it may lead. If you have not experienced professionals playing with paperwork and red tape in these circumstances it is very difficult to comprehend. It is indeed good advise to join and PM with any questions I'm sure you'll get them answered.

From my perspective, I see a woman asking for help in a public forum for her daughter. In order to attain appropriate assistance more information means more power, power in Jessica's corner. How is one to find help without all the facts?

My identity really is of no issue. I am a respectful individual who has enough insight (and time spent here) to know that certain people become defensive quickly. My intentions are good and prompting towards further exploration of options for Cindy and her family.

Of course there is red tape, and lots of it. I am simply curious, especially the comments about lifetime placement and what road has been taken that would end with this option.

The problem CS is that in order to answer your questions in the open forum, she would need to post information that she might not want everyone who has access to this forum to see. I surely wouldn't blame her if this is the case. If you really think you can help, you might try sending her a PM with your offer of help.

"My identity really is of no issue."

Of course. I think you misunderstand, Curious. Joining as a member does not involved revealing your identity, and nor should it. The point is, it enables you to send and receive Personal Messages ("PM"s), and that can be a better way of exploring things at times. That was the reason I suggested that registering as a member might be a good idea.

How much information Cindy chooses to share with us on this open forum is purely her own decision.

Okay McGrath, now I can PM or be PM'd. I still think that if someone is asking for help from ANYONE, then details are necessary. If only snippets of the information are provided in the forum in which one is seeking help, how can help truly be found?

How much information Cindy chooses to share with us is definately of her own decidings, however the more pertinent information, the more likely help is to be found.

I understand the last few posts about PMing but I think it would be most helpful if Cindy would please post a little more information here, for those of us who are looking to assist.

Welcome to the Mudcat Curious Stranger (nice Mudcat name), and thanks for not being huffy about joining. Sometimes people do get uptight when advised to join, and feel it as a kind of pressure. It's just that it makes things easier, with stuff like PMs (and it also means no one can post using your name, which they can while you are a GUEST.)

There's a fair amount of the necessary information on this thread and on the help Jessica website given earlier.

The full details will already, of course, be with the people who are tasked with making the decision on the appeal for Jessica's father, Russell Worrell, to be allowed to join his wife and daughter, who are living in the town of Reading in Pennsylvania, after having to leave Australia 10 months ago, because the authorities there refused to allow them to stay, because of Jessica's diagnosis, and the future care implications. The reason given for Russell's immigration problem is that when in the States previously, he overstayed his visa.

And we know from Cindy that the various professionals involved - doctors, teachers, counsellors and social workers - are concerned that the enforceed absence of her father is having a serious effect on the mental and developmental welfare of Jessica.

I'd say that is enough to enable people to write letters advocating on behalf of the family, and to motivate them to do so. If Cindy feels that more information would be helpful, and would not in some way cause difficulties, she will no doubt post it.

You both need to return to a UK country - even Canada or NewZealand. The UK socialized medical establishment will take care of even non-legal immigrants without insurance.

You have narrowed your thinking into believing that their is only one way out of the box you believe you are in.

So horrible that this could happen. As an Australian married to an American/Australian (newly naturalized) I feel so sad that both of our countries are behaving this way.

I'm getting good material - so lets try again. (more gargoyle/guest postings to this thread have been deleted - than any other thread in MC history.)

PLEASE Re-Consider your current thinking. You are "trapped" in an emotional-box. Look outside what you percieve as limitations. You are stuck on "only one solution" to a "problem" that could offer multiple opportunities to the child, yourself, and the spouse.

Go to another UK country....they all have socialistic medical legislation, and are required to provide services to even ill-legal-immigrants. I would suggest Canada or New Zealand.

Move to China.

Have you considered some of the South American countries...ie Peru ....live transition into Bolevia and return the same day.

Focus on your, and your spouse's, positive attributes - create a resume - sell yourselves to a Russian corporation with health benefits.

In short - leave the U.S.A. - we have enough free-loading - blood suckers - (it doesn't matter the color of your eyes or skin) enough is enough!!!!

VOTE KERRY - secure the American fronier.

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

Dear Cindy,

Gargoyle has a reputation to uphold. He's somewhat insecure and very offensive. He likes to be that way because he feels it makes him macho--and he desperately needs to be macho.

Just ignore him. He isn't all that bright; he's simply hate-filled.

Just a refresher folks: In Cindy's second post in the beginning of this thread, she said, "yes we have tried canada and also new zealand but because of jess's problems no other country will take her." (My emphasis.)

While the poster may have been out of line, that particular kind of response makes my stomach turn.

Cindy,

While I am sympathetic to your cause, your last post about the US tax dollars taking care of all your daughter's needs is in direct contrast to your website which states, and I quote:

"We don't want the government to take care of our daughter; we want to care for her ourselves."

But your most recent post states: "remember if my husband isn't able to join us HERE...your TAX DOLLARS will be supporting me and Jessica and ALL HER SPECIAL NEEDS...thanks for your support because you will be giving it to us either way..."

What gives? Should it matter if your husband is here as to whether the tax payers of this country support your daughter? Since you have referred to him as a wonderful father, I am making the HUGE assumption that he is helping to support both you and your daughter even though he can't be with you at this time. I'm sorry but something stinks to high heavens here....

Michelle

Cindy has never asked for money.

Her remark--and if that had been directed at you with venom and hatred, you might have answered that way from frustration--was a simple statement about what the state may cause to happen. I don't agree that something "stinks to high heavens here". Other than the letter of the law taking the place of common sense.

Dearest, most veneral Brucie:

(My previous two threads of the day deleted by the "clone")

Prey - tell ---"Other than the letter of the law taking the place of common sense."

Would/Could you reitterate?

Some personal entity, or clone - does NOT want a dissently voice within this thread....

Mr. Bruce - I'm NOT asking for a tepid quotation from Martin Luther's 95 (which was deleted this weekend)

Inquiring minds want to know your distillation of "common sense."

Sincerely,
Gargoyle

There, Gargoyle, I have reiterated. However, I think you wanted me to restate that as opposed to repeat that.

It makes good sense to keep a family together. The law which is being enforced concerns a visa overstay. In the grand scheme of things that's not a really big deal. I know it is wrong, but hell, you live in a country that has had mass pardons for people who have entered the country illegally. Look at the following site:

www.usdoj.gov/opa/pardonchartlst.htm

or Google

President Clinton's Pardons, January 2001

Look at the list and the crimes. Does the Australian's offense rank up there with the stuff that Clinton pardoned?

Last, I am aware that we grate each other's nerves. You want to pick on someone, pick on me. Leave Cindy and Jessica alone. Hell, I will trade veiled, thinly-veiled or outright vitriolic comments with you. The lady don't need the hassle. She and her daughter have enough on their plate, and it is beneath you to add to the load. What you say to and about her just isn't fair. I think you should back off.
