Subject: BS: RunCynthiaRun for the Green Party! From: GUEST,Guest Date: 01 Mar 08 - 12:09 PM So far, I've thrown money at four potential presidential candidates: Kucinich, Edwards, Nader & this week, McKinney for the Greens. I like to keep the field open to dissenting voices, obviously. But here is my question to y'all. Would any indies here considering a vote for Cynthia McKinney on the Green Party ticket this year? Some are saying she offers what may be progressives' only chance to bring about authentic change to electoral presidential politics and third party coalition building this year, rather than the illusion of change being offered by the Coke candidate, Obama. |

Subject: RE: BS: Run Cynthia Run for the Green Party! From: Riginslinger Date: 02 Mar 08 - 09:32 AM The way I remember it, she was entering a building and had on some article of clothing, a sweater or something, that was covering her ID. The cop, not knowing who she was, tried to stop her and she either slapped him or verbally abused him or something. The whole thing was really stupid. But the securtiy folks filed some kind of complaint. I might have that all wrong, because I'm strictly working from memory, except for the observation that the whole thing was really stupid. Of course the news people picked it up and blew it way out of porportion--no surprise there. |

Subject: RE: BS: Run Cynthia Run for the Green Party! From: GUEST,Guest Date: 02 Mar 08 - 10:07 AM It was, after all the racist, sexist hoopla abated, found that the security man had gone way overboard and had in fact targeted McKinney when she didn't have her ID badge with her. It was shone that same security guard had often let other members of Congress through without their ID badges. |

Subject: RE: BS: Run Cynthia Run for the Green Party! From: GUEST,Guest Date: 02 Mar 08 - 10:24 AM Oops--spelling should be 'shown' not 'shone'. It should be noted that what Cynthia McKinney was harrassed for was being black and a woman found inside the security bubble, where she actually belonged. But the sexist, racist Capitol police just couldn't quite wrap their head around that, and instead made excuses for why they were harrassing her, like 'she changed her hairdo'. Members of Congress are always allowed to go around the security checkpoints. Oddly, only Cynthia McKinney was being stopped by Capitol police. |

Subject: RE: BS: Run Cynthia Run for the Green Party! From: GUEST,Guest Date: 03 Mar 08 - 08:00 AM Anti-war, anti-Patriot Act & universal health care are the only positions I know she is taking. Her website is an abomination. |

Subject: RE: BS: Run Cynthia Run for the Green Party! From: MarkS Date: 03 Mar 08 - 08:32 AM Cynthia McKinney is an extremely silly woman. Her candidacy could be used as a model for a sketch on Monty Python. |

Subject: RE: BS: Run Cynthia Run for the Green Party! From: irishenglish Date: 03 Mar 08 - 04:36 PM The only thing in my mind more silly than voting for Nader in this election would be voting for McKinney. I watched her in many debates in 2004 and was not impressed by her cohesiveness in terms of an overall election strategy. I sure have appreciated her vote before, and she can be an extremely effective speaker, but as President, no, don't think so. |

Subject: RE: BS: Run Cynthia Run for the Green Party! From: Wesley S Date: 03 Mar 08 - 05:06 PM I'd vote for Nader long before I'd vote for her. But to me the real choice is going to be between Republican and Democrat. You can call that a choice between coke and Pepsi - perhaps you're right. But right now I'm a coke guy. And the Pepsi candidate would be far more dangerous. Cynthia McKinney doesn't have a chance so I'm not going to throw my vote away. Here's my question guest and I hope it doesn't sound confrontational. Why would you donate money to a candidate when you know so little about her platform? And I quote: "Anti-war, anti-Patriot Act & universal health care are the only positions I know she is taking. Her website is an abomination." |

Subject: RE: BS: Run Cynthia Run for the Green Party! From: Amos Date: 03 Mar 08 - 06:19 PM Voting can changes some things, guys; don't be so damn jaded and cynical. Clinton got voted in, and he erased the deficit; Bush got "voted" in and he doubled it back again. A thinking man who can be persuasive is the best shot we have at leading change from t he White House. Otherwise, we're left to promoting it from the grass-roots level with no bully pulpit atall. A |

Subject: RE: BS: Run Cynthia Run for the Green Party! From: GUEST,Guest Date: 03 Mar 08 - 10:21 PM First of all, I don't believe it is a waste to send money to the Green Party to help them build an organization. When I said I sent money to her campaign, I meant I sent it to my state's Green Party, earmarked for the presidential campaign. That money will go to help build the party by getting her on the ticket, and hopefully pull in enough votes to get matching funds, ballot access, all kinds of stuff small parties with small purses have to do just to run. I sent money to Nader via his website. I haven't sent a check yet this calendar year, but I will likely also donate to Wis Senator Russ Feingold's Progressive Patriot Fund, to bankroll candidates I know very little about--and some whom we don't even know who they are yet. It is what one does to keep the field open for progressives, and help their voices be heard within the system. |

Subject: RE: BS: Run Cynthia Run for the Green Party! From: GUEST,Guest Date: 03 Mar 08 - 10:30 PM In other words Wesley, I send money to candidates, to political parties, and to political action committees. I don't always get to vote for the people who receive my financial support. However, it is no different if one donates directly to the Democratic party or the Republican party, instead of to a particular candidate. People do this all the time, so I don't think my doing it is strange or unusual at all. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Run Cynthia Run for the Green Party! From: Riginslinger Date: 03 Mar 08 - 10:30 PM Yeah, I send money to the Greens too. I think it's important to have a few more voices out there. |

Subject: RE: BS: Run Cynthia Run for the Green Party! From: GUEST,Guest Date: 03 Mar 08 - 10:56 PM Not to mention, if the damn Democrats can't win with all their filthy cash this year, we should put them all in a slow boat to China. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: Run Cynthia Run for the Green Party! From: irishenglish Date: 04 Mar 08 - 11:57 AM Don't forget though Gigi, some of that filthy cash is yours, so if they don't win you'll need to book your passage as well. |
