Fortunately, it is no longer a universal trait, and many women apply a wider range of criteria. (fortunately for ME anyway!)

I think the key to it all is contained in the phrase "makes me feel protected and safe". When a woman feels protected and safe, she can relax totally and let go. Nothing makes people feel as protected and safe in this society as having a lot of money. If they don't have what they see as "enough" money, however, they never really feel safe, and nothing interferes with good sex like a constant level of suppressed anxiety about your overall living situation.

Me, I'd like to hook up with a great-looking and charming woman who has an unlimited amount of disposable income and is looking for someone to share it with in enjoyable ways...! (grin)

That's the categorical Mandate of the Sperm Bearer, Ebbie. Our minds and bodies are just filled with the echoing cries of a billion tiny cells demanding to be sent forth. It's rough, I tell you.

A woman wed to a rich man is going to be a LOT more stress free than one married for love to a poor one, if she is of reproductive age. A bank account can often do more than a poem to instill the belief that "everything's going to be all right".

Yes, it is natural for a man to be attracted to younger women, because the basic instincts of nature attract one to the best child-bearing possibility. It's subliminal. On top of that, add the fact that our society worships youth and beauty, and that plays a part as well. This society focuses far more on female beauty than on male beauty. There were some ancient societies which tended the other way, such as the Greeks, for example.

That, I suspect, stems from a historically male-power based society. And the same thing was true in ancient Greece.

No, Ebbie, that is not my point. ALL the past societies we have a historical record of have been male-dominated. But some of them focused more on the male body in the popular art and culture of the time (the Greeks and Romans certainly did)...while some have focused more on the female body. Our present marketing-oriented culture focuses primarily, in fact almost exclusively, on the female body, and that's become even more noticeable in the past few decades than it was before. I think it's rather odd how out of balance it has gotten. Men (aside from a few popular "Brad Pitt" stars of the day) have become almost invisible people, and are more often than not depicted as unattractive and stupid...for purposes of humour. The present society is still dominated by men at the top echelons (rich men), but it shows little respect to the male gender in a more generalized sense. I think men have, psychologically speaking, been psychologically extremely disempowered in the last few decades.

Except, of course, for rich men. ;-) They run that marketing system I'm referring to and they are anything but disempowered.
