Obama's Recovery: While the economy has created 2.6 million jobs since June of 2009, as many of 3.1 million people have become recipients of federal disability insurance

5.4 Million Join Disability Rolls Under Obama
IBD

The economy created just 80,000 jobs in June, the Bureau of Labor Statistics reported Friday. But that same month, 85,000 workers left the workforce entirely to enroll in the Social Security Disability Insurance program, according to the Social Security Administration.

The disability ranks have outpaced job growth throughout President Obama's recovery. While the economy has created 2.6 million jobs since June 2009, fully 3.1 million workers signed up for disability benefits.

In other words, the number of new disability enrollees has climbed 19% faster than the number of jobs created during the sluggish recovery. (Even after accounting for people who left the disability program because they died or aged into retirement, disability ranks have climbed more than 1.1 million in the past three years.)

And the disability ranks will continue to swell. In just the last month, almost 275,000 put in applications for disability benefits. Experts say that more people try to get on disability when jobs are scarce, and changes to eligibility rules enacted back in 1984 have made it far easier to qualify.

In addition, while hiring has been very weak during the recovery, the number of people who have dropped out of the labor force entirely has exploded by 7.3 million since June 2009, an IBD analysis of BLS data show. Some aged into retirement, but most either signed up for disability, stayed in school, moved back in with parents, or just quit looking for a job.

As a result, the "labor force participation rate" — the number of people who have jobs or are actively looking for one compared with the entire working-age population — is now 63.8%, down from 65.7% in June 2009. This participation rate is at the lowest levels in 30 years. In previous recoveries, the participation rate has almost always risen, not fallen.

Other indicators show that the three-year-old economic recovery isn't producing jobs in adequate numbers.

The unemployment rate has been above 8% for 41 consecutive months. In the previous 60 years, the jobless topped 8% in a total of only 39 months.

The number of people with jobs is still nearly 5 million below its pre-recession peak.

The number of long-term unemployed — those out of work 27 weeks or more — is still 5.4 million — almost 1 million higher than when the "recovery" began, and almost twice the level it ever reached prior to Obama's recovery.

Does anyone know how many jobs must be created every month to break even?

Private sector is slow but pretty steady while government jobs are not happening thanks to Congress. Reagan, Bush, Clinton, and Dubya, all raised spending on ifrastructue jobs but thanks to this racist Congress we are all losing.

I usually don't get involved with jackasses anymore and especially ones who just copy and paste like the fuckwit above. Seriously Sawshit, why don't you go and kiss Boehner's ass after you've given McConnell a blowjob while he was buttfucked by Cantor.

The Three richest people in America are Democrats.

Warren Buffett, Larry Ellison and Bill Gates, all Democrats, together worth $126 Billion Dollars.

Amos: "How many jobs do you thin have been created by Larry Ellison and Bill Gates, directly and indirectly?"

Amos, This is the same question that the conservatives and Tea party use for NOT wanting to tax the wealthy any higher, or add more financial burdens on them, because the wealthy in the private sector are the ones creating jobs, without raising taxes. In the public sector, and especially union public sector jobs, pensions, union dues ALL are funded BY taxes.
Are you sure you want to go there??...It could undermine the liberal's big government whole rap.
Think about it.

Respectfully,

GfS

How many jobs have been created by the Koch Bros. Amos?

And I am not going to ad a desperate personal attack to my question.

Rather than wasting time on ad hominum attacks, lets look at the data..

Social Security Disability rolls have been increasing steadily for years, but the rate of increase actually went down a bit last year. The highest annual percentage increases shown (the linked data only goes back to 1997) in the number of people actually being paid were in 2003 and 2004. The largest increases in applications, on the other hand, were 2001 (11.21%) and 2009 (10.16%), both of which marked the beginning of recessions. What I find interesting is the small but consistent increase in the percentage of recipients taken off of the rolls in the past three years compared to the previous six.

This seems to have a lot more to do with the state of the economy, which is reasonable, than it does with who happens to be president at the time or which party he comes from.

Absolutely correct!....besides, it Doesn't matter which party he comes from....only who has the most to 'gain' from manipulating the economy...and those schmucks arrange WHO is going to run....and hide 'why'......It's been a rigged game for too long of a time.
BTW, keep an eye on the derivatives market...that will decide more than anything,, what the 'state of the nation' is going to be!!!

The entire American work force is on economic disability today. The Republicans have virtually no plan to solve the problem of disappearing or low-paying jobs.

Do you honestly think that Romney would affect any economic recovery?
If you do, I have a dressage horse to sell you.

The problem is that the government has been bought by corporate interests who will block any attempt to create honest jobs through their corrupt think tanks and ALEC's.
They have immobilized regulators who have the job of protecting our rights as Americans. The banks are in collusion with them and Glass Steagal needs to be brought back and Graham Lyley repealed.

The reason that the disability rolls are growing is because there is a concerted effort on the part of the oppressive oligarchic wealthy to keep the American worker there and to eventually deny him/her any chance of recovery.

Besides, the Repubs only want to do Obama in. That's all they got.

"The Republicans have virtually no plan"

The Democrats have absolutely no plan and the workforce keeps shrinking.

Stingsinger: "The entire American work force is on economic disability today. The Republicans have virtually no plan to solve the problem of disappearing or low-paying jobs."

Well, how about a budget?...and the democrat plan works on borrowing, tax ,and spend.....sounds like a rhythm guitar, and a bass....but they're playing the same song...just different parts.

Stingsinger: "The problem is that the government has been bought by corporate interests who will block any attempt to create honest jobs through their corrupt think tanks and ALEC's."

Of course, there was no reason to corrupt the Democratic Party....it wasn't worth the 'investment'....do you believe that?....and if not, what bullshit do you think they've been feeding the 'true believers'?, to hide, what?

Stingsinger: "They have immobilized regulators who have the job of protecting our rights as Americans. The banks are in collusion with them and Glass Steagal needs to be brought back and Graham Lyley repealed."

Right!!..Why hasn't the Democratic Senate put that forth..or the Democratic Congress, and/or Obama when they had the chance?
Hint:(The people who own the leadership in both parties, aren't paying to have it done)......"Now let me guess..."

Stingsinger: "Besides, the Repubs only want to do Obama in. That's all they got."

Boy!..are you distracted and off the path!!!

Since Wall Street (God help us) controls the domestic policy., I guess we should vote for the guy with the most foreign policy experience, President Barry O'Bama.

Wall Street controls foreign policy too, don't they?

The Empire goes where the money (the oil) is...or in Afghanistan's case, where it can be pipelined through on its way to the Empire's oil tankers.

China and Russia watch with alarm, because they need that oil too. Specially China. Their degree of alarm rises every time the Empire attempts to cause regime change in another targeted nation, the latest ones being Syria and Iran. There will come a point when the Russians and Chinese say "No more." We may be very close to that point now.

Little Hawk, Well said, especially to those of us who know what you're talking about!!!
I broached the subject a while ago, and no none picked up on it.
We have come so self absorbed, we've 'enjoyed' the fart so much, we've been unaware of the smell, in the room...in this case, the rest of the world!

There are other powers out there, who still have a mind, and different vision of their own, who haven't been bought off completely, yet
....those pesky bankers better get busy...or go broke trying!!!...taking us all down with them.

Waving!

For the record, this 58% number that Saws keeps throwing around is as bogus as a $3 bill...

If you read the poll you find that there is no way the 58% stands up as a percentage of folks who think the rich deserve their wealth... Might of fact there isn't enough information to put a number on it at all...

All we know is that

Strongly believe + somewhat believe (meaning somewhat don't believe) = 58%...

When you read the study there is no breakdown for the United States between those 2 categories... There is, however, a breakdown for all the countries taken collectively and what the pollsters found in that only about 15% strongly agree...

Logic 101 Summation: 85% somewhat believe, somewhat dis-believe or strongly dis-believe that the rich deserve their wealth...

Any Stats professor out there would back me on this one...

B~
