Subject: Looking for info on a song called "Our Town" From: Andrew Austin Date: 17 Mar 98 - 02:20 PM Hi all! I am trying to find the lyrics and the name of a female folk singer who sings a tune which may be called "Our Town". The lyrics go something like: "Can't you see the sun going down? On our town, on our town" Sorry I don't have any more to go on. Hopefully someone will recognise this tune. Thanks in advance. |

Subject: Lyr Add: OUR TOWN (Iris Dement) ^^ From: Joe Offer Date: 17 Mar 98 - 09:33 PM This song and "Let the Mystery Be," both on the "Infamous Angel" CD, are my two favorite Iris Dement songs. -Joe Offer- OUR TOWN (Iris Dement) As recorded by Iris DeMent on "Infamous Angel" (1993) Chorus: And ya know the sun's settin' fast And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts Go on now and kiss it goodbye But hold onto your lover 'cause your heart's bound to die Go on now and say goodbye to our town, to our town Can't you see the sun's settin' down on our town, on our town Goodnight Up the street beside that red neon light That's where I met my baby on one hot summer night He was the tender and I ordered a beer It's been forty years and I'm still sitting here Chorus It's here I had my babies and I had my first kiss I've walked down Main Street in the cold morning mist Over there is where I bought my first car It turned over once but then it never went far Chorus I buried my mama and I buried my pa They sleep up the street beside that pretty brick wall I bring 'em flowers about every day But I just gotta cry when I think what they'd say Chorus If they could see how the sun's setting fast ... Now I sit on the porch and watch the lightnin' bugs fly But I can't see too good, I got tears in my eyes I'm leavin' tomorrow but I don't wanna go I love you, my town, you'll always live in my soul But I can see the sun's settin' fast And just like they say, nothing good ever lasts Go on, I gotta kiss you goodbye But I'll hold to my lover 'cause my heart's 'bout to die Go on now and say goodbye to my town, to my town I can see the sun has gone down on my town, on my town Goodnight, Goodnight JRO ^^ |

Subject: Our town From: fiddlergirl Date: 25 Oct 01 - 01:04 AM Hey all, I'd love to get my hands on the lyrics for this song, logically it's name should be "our town" but I'm not really sure what it's called. The last part of the chorus runs something like: "Can't you see the sun sinking fast, just like I said nothing good ever lasts, can't you see the sun's goin' down on our town, on our town". If anyone could help me with this it would be much appreciated, and chords would be grand as well. Thanks... slan! |

Subject: RE: Lyr Req: Our town From: Terry K Date: 25 Oct 01 - 03:09 AM Anyone just starting on Iris Dement has a treat in store. Most of what she does is just terrific - simple and homespun but with a lovely quality. She seems to have come from a strongly religious background but it doesn't appear to have done much damage. Cheers, Terry |
