Let's be clear. Maher is a *comedian.* He knows it and he acknowledges it. He does not run from it; he embraces it. (Oooh, oooh! Clever use of the semicolon! *Save the semicolon!*) Perhaps Limbaugh alludes to his being an *entertainer* sometimes--I do not know, as I have never heard it--but he *pretends* to be a legitimate pundit. And his dittohead legions take him as such. Because of their markedly different roles, the two are quite reasonably held to different standards.

Also, as has been pointed out before, Fluke is a *private citizen* rising to what she felt was her civic duty. And the Palins are shameless self-promoters who profit from the attention, and are entitled to whatever people want to say about them.

No, Limgaughberger's comments are definitely part of the "Republican war on women," consciously, intentionally. And they hurt us all. Mahers comments are just part of the comedic/satirical landscape and fall harmlessly with all the other comedic lines.

I agree with Saul - the Palin case bears no resemblance to Fluke's.

Ms Fluke stood up to explain the reasons why women, including her peers, might need to use the contraceptive pill. She was not speaking purely for herself and was not, so far as can be seen, looking for self-promotion.

Bristol Palin writes a self serving blog, which puts her out in the public arena and therefore, as with all public figures, open to comment and derision. She cannot help but be aware of the possible result of this activity, given who her mother is and the publicity surrounding her illegitimate child and her love life.

Comparing the two is apples and oranges.

Old saying - if you can't stand the heat, stay out the kitchen. Maybe Ms Palin should keep a lower profile if she doesn't like the negatives.

I believe that Limbaugh's gaff hit a sore spot created by the Komen fiasco. Women's rights supporters were wide awake and angry when he put his foot in it. Komen is still reeling, even postponing two major fund raisers out of concern for their ability to pull in donations:

Thanks kat. I read about that video on line but this is the first I have seen it.
LOL I nearly jumped out of my chair in anger when the Santorum bit was read.
A child of rape is a blessing from god. WOW Just where does a woman go to raise this blessing without the neighbors watching carefully for the father's genes to surface?
