LIST WHAT YOU FIND TO BE; HEINOUS, VILE, MALICIOUS, STUPID, ATROCIOUS REPUGNANT...or despicable

After Obama announced his presidential order to cap executive pay at financial institutions to $500,000, 30 minutes later, the despicable Goldman Saks bank asked to give back their tarp money so CEO bonus' could be in the billions. They were the first to get TARP money from Paulson.(recall that Treasury Secretary Paulson and Kashcari were the top dogs at Goldman Saks)

The despicable Dick Cheney called for a news conference today and declared a terror alert.

My despicable County goverment is seeking to public auction my home on March 6th as a result of not crediting our property tax payment for a year and also claiming that they under calculated our initial tax payment 5 years ago.
Both are their mistakes but they added fees and penalities to their mistake amounting to well over 10,000.

Donuel, what G-S is doing is trying to revive capitalist principles. I applaud them for giving back their bail-out....if they're allowed.

My capitalist principle is, I ain't giving them any of my hard earned money, if they want to live large in a time of crisis. And no one else should support their corporate style.

Donuel, that is terrible! Do you have an attorney who can file an appeal and for an injunction to stop it until the appeal is heard?

I am helping my ex-husband fight the county here due to their deciding they want his now lucrative land. When he bought it, no one wanted it. Now, with the energy boom, it's worth much more and they want it. At the moment, we are trying to find someone who will work pro bono. If you don't have the money for an attorney, maybe there is a pro bono group there who might help?

With your permission, I will give thanks for this matter being settled immediately, in your favour, for the highest good of all concerned. With all good thoughts for you and your family,

kat (do you want me to add to the thread title to reflect the above?)

Unbelievable. So sorry Donuel. As Kat said, there must be some sort of legal redress as it is their mistake.

Keeping you in my thoughts.

people being evicted from their homes if their electricity was turned off.....

Not saying it's right. But I will share what clergy spouses learn eventually.

A practical aspect of this is the public health issue that without electricity, pipes are likely to burst and the home is, in effect, unlivable. In our area, of course, people have other means of getting through a time without utilities. But not everyone, everywhere has been raised with the skills or knowledge of how to do that; municipal ordinances and policies are usually aimed at the lowest common denominator.

So when there is that situation described, money for the utilities is often the only form of help a family will know how to use, and that can be the hardest help to get because once the bill has gone unpaid, restoring the utilities will take not only the amount due (sometimes all of it), but also a hefty deposit.

People often do not "work" the system around them, to get help, until help has become so expensive that there are not sufficient resources among the local helpers to respond adequately.

A small strategy that can have hugely powerful consequences is to ASK PEOPLE you think may be at risk of losing their utilities how they are doing before the weather becomes pipe-freezingly cold. THAT is the time to start helping, motivating the person to look into local resources, etc. So that they become another helper instead of another victim.

And doing THAT requires sensitivity. NOT asking in a smarmy, compassionate way directly!!! But sidling up to the topic. Telling stories of known but un-named neighbors who got into that fix and how they got out. hoping the person will ask some pertinent questions. Starting a conversation about winter expenses, and hoping the other person responds with THEIR story of mounting bills. INDIRECT "casework."

Finally, being sure that people know people. People will open their homes if there is relationship. Without relationship, strangers seldom know how to help other strangers, or will offer or receive help from them.

It doesn't always take a "program." Sometimes what it takes is "relationship."

~Susan

Donuel, that is awful! As others have said - hopefully you can get this taken care of with a good lawyer, or at least a phone call to the right person in local government. Nobody should have to suffer for a mistake that somebody else made.

As for the Goldman Sachs folks - I guess they didn't need that money after all. Maybe this'll weed out the wheat from the chaff and save the public money to boot..

I think you could beat them on the penalties and interest on their mistakes but not the other stuff.

I sent a check for my taxes once and it was never deposited so I had to pay a penalty. They lost it. However, how could I prove that I sent the check?

One time I had 5 condos all in a row. The same name and address was on all of them so I got the tax bills all at once in the same envelope.

One year only 3 came. I paid them thinking the other two would come shortly. They did not and I forgot to keep looking for them to come thinking in the back of my mind I had paid them.

A relative called me and said two of my properties were going to be auctioned off. I had to pay $1000 each to some slimeball lawyer to redeem them.

The idiots had sent two of the bills to another address and they were returned. Then they made no effort to find the real address.

How did two addresses out of five change? Could a lawyer pay someone to change the address?

Our house went for two years without homeowner's insurance, despite having paid it through escrow, because when the finance company paid the bill they sent a lump sum for several houses and ours wasn't credited. Twice. Luckily we had no claims, and because of it, I made the insurance company pay me back those two years. After that I changed companies and went with a guy down the street. I told him if anything fishy seemed to show up on our bill any year he was to let me know.

Except for the fact that it's Allstate, with not-so-great customer service and high prices these days, it has been fine.

I would be inclined to file a lawsuit for harmful negligence, seek damages and redress in court and get an injunction to prevent any action until heard.
