From: GutBucketeer

Hi Everyone:

Several of us bandied about different topics for Hearme sings and thought this one would be a good idea.

SONGS and TALES OF THE RANGE: Cowboys, Bushwackers, Gauchos and more (I added the Tales).

So saddle up your ponies, grab your lasso, and hit the trail pardners. We'll be meeting in virtual space at 9:00 pm EST on Monday January 31st on the Mudcat Hearme link for some rattlesnake stew, Caitrin's cookies, great songs and tall tales.

See Ya There.

P.S. I'll add a blue clicky thing to the thread when I get home tonight.

I have a few tales of the range. Like the one that only had one burner working and the oven door had fallen apart. It wasn't a range you could feel at home with. We now have an Amana range with the glass cooktop and it although I've never cooked any antelope on it, I have done a good bit of deer. We generally have a few "Critter Dinners" during this time of year. Unfortunately the only thing we have this year IS deer, so I'm thinking of doing a selection of deer favorites when the Leadings are here next weekend. A roast in a nice orange sauce (Peking Buck), the ever popular Sloppy Does, and Lambi(chops braised in mint & rosemary). Please, no discouraging words on the menu selections.

Hey JAB,

Sounds great to me! I'll work on my 'new' version of The Yellow Rose of Texas for the session, OK?

And ignore ole Spaw there, he's just been eating too many of Caitrin's cookies today! ;-)

I am having dinner at a friend's house an hour before this will start. Don't know if I'll be back in time, but will try. Sounds like a good time & I'd love to read one of my granddas's poems or sing a song with ya'll.

Just in case you folks get a song bout taconite (iron ore) mining this evening, know that in Minnesota 'the range' (more commonly pronounced:'deh range')refers to the huge open pit mines up north o' here.

That is interesting, nos. Will you be joining in with a song about taconite, then? Love to hear it.

Dinner has been rescheduled, so...I'll be here!

I have a question about HearMe. First let me say that I tuned in on Robbie Burns night, and I think it's fantastic.

My question---How does it work? Does the Mudcat somehow host a "room" for the link? Are there different HearMe downloads for different kinds of hookups? Can I hook up with one friend and talk?

I've been frequenting HearMe for some time, in their regular site, setting up a room I call AcousticLive Banjo,Guitar, etc.

Does this Mudcat room show up there? Or is it something else?

In any case, I guess I'll find out. I just downloaded the plug-ins, etc. and I've got a shortcut set up. See you in about a half hour now--no, twenty-five minutes.

JAB & Áine, you will find several original and new/used editions of the Lomax book here, at Bibliofind in prices ranging from under $20 to almost $300 (for an original)

Also, as far as the next date goes, I sent Skarpi a message asking him if he'd liek to join us and to let me know possible dates when he could make it, if he has a mic, etc. Will holler when I hear from him, but feel free to set another whenever anyway, too. It was a blast!

all the best,

katlaughing
