Liz - when someone states a Universal Truth it takes a while to digest; so everyone else tends to puase a bit - especially if they are paying attention.

The salmon is just coming off of the grill--someone be prepared to beat back the cats in case they close in as I carry it to the table. Move that chocolate out of the way, please--THIS is the food of the gods!

AH, but mine was marinated then smoked over alder and it started out as Copper River King salmon! It's the amount of natural red that gives the flavor that huge boost! I think perhaps yours is reflecting those great salmon oils in the juice that form a skin* on the fillet and lighten the surface when it has finished cooking.

(*The word "congeal" comes to mind, but it isn't my favorite word to describe fine cooking!)

They both taste pretty dang good!

BTW - you do *not* want to know how difficult it was to teach salmon how to navigate the Drums of Seneca in order to spawn. Had to use some freshwater fur dolphins to lead them the first couple of generations.

"Fur dolphin" is just code meaning his neighbor's Labrador retreivers got out there and chased the fish in the water. I do believe the dogs usually survive the experience, so I'm not sure what the fuzzy part is.

Hairy Lobster
Seriously though I did hear of the hairball in lobsters before, and it was theorised that pieces of cowhide complete with hair were being used in lobster pots as bait. It has the advantage of lasting longer than fishy baits. This meant that lobsters ingested the hair along with the hide.
Could account for the fisherman who said, "I haven't seen hide nor hair of a lobster all day"!
Giok

I'll get me carapace.

the hairy lobster has a very high percentage of ammonia in it's body fluids , so probably doesn't taste very good.

Don't worry about the grill today, just slap the meat on any handy metal surface that is outside in the sun. 102 today, 103 predicted for tomorrow. That aquarium is looking VERY inviting right about now, squid or no!

Geeze, youse guys. You don't understand the concept of BBQ. You are suppose to be hot and desparately sucking on your cold drinks, in anticipation of the ingestion of copious quantities of charred mammal flesh, still raw in the middle, such that a full night of sleep is impossible.

Togas? Are preferred. As is your own accomodation... RV, tent or blanket.

Even though late to the BBQ..(but bringing some lovely beer from Dogfish Head as my contribution)...I can solve one problem...Liz allowed as how..." I don't eat things that have more limbs than I do.." The trick is, you confront the creature with the excess appendages and warn it about your intentions. It will then be converted into the proper configuration.....

what? You doubt?

Hummm, looks like I am late coming to the outdoor party... glad to see ya'all here.

I brought my mom's world famous potato salad. This version's got the black olives... my favorite! Sorry I can't eat with you, on a major diet, so I'll just sit here drinking water and watch all of you eat. Every so often, I'll ask how what you're eating tastes so I can live vicariously through you. :)

Ahhhh.... pass me over that Long Island Iced tea.... I did a concert this lunchtime in 30+ degree heat where we sang about 85% of the Mozart Requiem in 30 minutes, to a piano we could barely hear and all wearing black.... It was a good gig, but I could have done without the mad panic dash back to the train to get back home for another concert at Limpit's school, that started at 2.00.

Now it's about 18+ degrees and too hot to sleep. I'm figuring that enough LIITs will cool me down and knock me out for the night.

Hand 'em over Barkeep!

I don't know how you guys can eat that heavy stuff when it's sooo hot. (and if you want to know why it's sooo hot, go see Al Gore's movie ...)

I took homegrown blueberries to a potluck on Saturday. Once I did that and one kid scarfed them all. I had to warn his mother what can happen, but I guess all you Moms know.
