Remember when Mudcat threads were split into Regular / B.S. ? That was a brilliant move. As one of those who can remember way back to the Dorian age when they were all jumbled together, I want to reiterate my thanks to the powers that be (Max etc.) for defining and separating the categories - Wonderbra!

I like 'em split too, but why are there always more music threads showing than BS threads, 112 to 62 BS showing on screen...

If there are more music threads posted then BS threads, then believe it or not, more music threads got created/posted to/refreshed then BS threads did in the last 24 hours. The default display is all threads with a posting within the last 24 hours.

Oh I do hear the humour you guys. Maybe we should start a category called "Musical B.S." - or divide up into categories such as GUITAR, ACCORDION, MORE GUITAR, HARP, MORE MORE GUITAR, SINGING, MORE MORE MORE GUITAR....

Seriously I do love that we have a B.S. category here on the 'Cat. It would be a good model for other newsgroups I know to follow. Writing down in the bottom third makes me feel less guilty for tying up space that should be devoted to the serious artistic side of life.

And the BS section isn't about music? It is about the music of life. It has spawned more than a few songs, a few stories, a few friendships, a few scraps....

I submit to you the hypothesis that both may coexist and, indeed, nuture each other.

There are more music threads, but I think there are more non-music posts. Before the split, the 700-message chit-chat threads were constantly at the top of the Forum Menu because they were constantly getting messages to refresh them. To get to the music threads, you had to scroll down to the bottom of the page, since most were not even visible on the screen. People were constantly crabbing about the preponderance of BS posts. We discussed starting a separate forum for BS, but decided we didn't want to divide Mudcat like that. Many of the people who can best answer music inquiries, spend most of their time in the BS threads. If we moved BS to a different forum, those people would never see the music inquiries.
Jeff's idea of splitting the forum and leaving it all on one screen, was simple and elegant. Some people don't like it, but the option of mixed messages is available to registered members on the Mudcat Membership page, or in "messages since last visit."
I think it was a wonderful solution to a problem that plagued us for years.
