Subject: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: number 6 Date: 01 May 06 - 08:08 PM What's with that Mother of BS Threads ... is it one of those weird things like collecting bottle caps, chain letters or something .... I haven't a clue what it is all about, as I have not ventured into the 'Mother' because it's like trying to lift a cast iron anvil to open it up. sIx |

Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: number 6 Date: 01 May 06 - 08:12 PM Once it's down to the effort of lifting a bottle of brew then and only then will I attempt to open it. Thanks bb sIx |

Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: Amos Date: 01 May 06 - 08:54 PM Don't bother with it, mate...nothing to worry about, nothing to see here. Move along to more interesting stuff. Someone just started a real riot of a copycat thread -- the Cafcat Mudfay, I think, or some such...check it out. A |

Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: beardedbruce Date: 01 May 06 - 09:40 PM Amos, I hope this is not a further example of MOABites suppressing dissent... (bg) |

Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: number 6 Date: 01 May 06 - 09:46 PM Dissention .... certainly no intention of that in this thread. But there has been much paranoia lurking around here lately. sIx |

Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: CarolC Date: 01 May 06 - 10:49 PM The MOAB started out as a spinoff from the longest lasting birthday thread in the history of the Mudcat. But mostly all they talk about is polkas and championship ballroom dancing. And bowling. Lots of bowling talk in that thread. And they also talk a lot about khandu's dance costumes and Bee-dubya-ell's accordion playing. Bee-dubya-ell's a fine accordionist, and he looks stunning in his purple cape. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: number 6 Date: 01 May 06 - 11:25 PM Thanks for the clarification Carol ... I actually did lift the lid off of that thread (goddamned heavy) and went inside to take a look .... your right, it is rather 'unexciting'. Didn't see Bee-dubya in the cape, but I'll guess I never will since I'll certainly stay outta that thread. sIx |

Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: CarolC Date: 01 May 06 - 11:37 PM What do you mean, 'unexciting'? What's wrong with the stuff I mentioned? If you saw Bee-dubya-ell playing his accordion while wearing his purple cape, I think you would find it very exciting. I know I do. Here's a picture of khandu doing his award winning championship ballroom dancing routine. What could be more exciting than this? http://www.geocities.com/squeezemusette/khandu.html |

Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: number 6 Date: 01 May 06 - 11:41 PM Oh my Gawd !! Now that certainly isn't bowling or polka music!! LOL sIx |

Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: Bee-dubya-ell Date: 02 May 06 - 12:41 AM Yes, here's the complete and unexpurgated sordid tale of the accordion and my sorry self as told by Tweed (with photographic assistance from CarolC and Adobe Photoshop). CLICK! |

Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: Bunnahabhain Date: 02 May 06 - 06:29 AM The whole point of MOAB is that it isn't about anything. BTW, do you make anvils out of cast iron? Isn't it too brittle? |
|
Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: The Fooles Troupe Date: 02 May 06 - 08:56 AM Not if you only hit it gently! |
|
Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: number 6 Date: 02 May 06 - 08:56 AM Yes cast iron is too brittle .. I made the mistake of getting mine from Walmart, it's one of those cheap made offshore anvils. Jeezuz BB ! sIx |
|
Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: mack/misophist Date: 02 May 06 - 09:06 AM cast steel. mine is, anyway. |
|
Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: number 6 Date: 02 May 06 - 11:19 AM I should have purchase one of those instead of the cast iron one. sIx |

Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: Bill D Date: 02 May 06 - 11:26 AM http://www.anvilfire.com/FAQs/anvil-0.htm "Today most good quality anvils are made of cast steel the type dependent on the manufacturer. There are also a large number of cast iron "shop anvils" sold. Cast iron anvils are worthless for forging as they are dead (no rebound) and very brittle." http://www.beautifuliron.com/gs_anvils.htm "Why not cast iron? Cast iron anvils inherently contain layers or platelets of graphite throughout their mass. The graphite layers in cast iron anvils absorb concussion (hammer blows in our case) and cushion the work. In cast iron anvil this results in a softer work surface that absorbs force of hammer blows- making us work much harder to produce less product over the same time period compared with using a steel or wrought iron and steel anvil. Avoid cast iron anvils. Buy steel anvils." |

Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: wysiwyg Date: 02 May 06 - 11:29 AM Does that mean that MOAB mated with her own parent (the birthday thread referenced above) in order to spawn this one? Eeeeeeewwww! ~Susan |

Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: number 6 Date: 02 May 06 - 11:33 AM Great advice here in this thread .... I now know what the MOAB is all about ... and I now know what a good anvil is constructed of ... I wish I had known this info earlier as I would have acquired a better anvil than the one I bought at Walmart, and I wouldn't have gotten a hernia struggling to get down into the MOAB. thanks all, sIx |

Subject: RE: BS: The Baby of BS Threads From: Bunnahabhain Date: 02 May 06 - 01:25 PM I just though cast iron when hit hard has a tendancy to splinter when hit hard, which is why bomb cases are made of it. I've seen some very silly things done with it, such as making improptu firework mortar tubes out of it, or using a (cast iron) fencing mell with (steel) splitting wedges. It's amazing how loudly you can shout at people to stop what they're doing, from behind a solid object. |
