Ah, well, yes, no, hmm, well, y'see, yes. (don't titter missus)

But enough of the Frankie Howerd references.

From Monday 30th May till Thursday 2nd June I'll be skippering a yacht in the Solent. Ms Lemon & me; two sailing friends of mine & Jenny, my nine-year-old daughter (who can steer a bit and knows which ropes to pull).   There are one or two spare places - anyone interested? Less than £100 each.

No experience needed.

Let me know soonest.

Steve

Would I have to row? The last time we had to row to achieve ramming speed.

No rowing required. There's an iron spinnaker under the cockpit ifwe need it.

If you're in Maine, do you know the Grace Bailey? Some people I know went over to crew on her a few years ago.

Can I be the guy who does the flogging and keelhauling?

I'm in Idaho, so I've had lots of experience.

avast behind,
Can't make that weekend as I'm committed to taking kids to Chester.
No chance of scurvy with all that lovely lemonade.

Are Roger the Cabin Boy and Seaman Stains part of the plan?

Ah yes - it'll be in the Solent & adjacent waters. That's on the south coast. Of England.

Is there any water in the Colorado River these days?

Yes, I know the Grace Bailey!
We went on a cruise in 2002, with a group of Scottish Country Dancers.
We were out for a week.
She is a very shallow boat with very little room below decks, and the only place we could find to dance was sideways, just aft of the main mast. We put the head of the set at the center, by our battery powered boom box. This gave new meaning to the phrase "once and to the bottom"--

Jim James & Pam Taylor were on board for a few summers, several years ago I think. Deckhand and Cook.

No one wants to brave the briny deep in April then?

Too busy banging planks back into my old tub, Steve, though I do envy you getting afloat early.

I wouldn't mind, but I doubt I'd get sea leave (like shore leave except the other way round). Oh, the perils of being married to a woman who gets seasick in a bathtub, when your folks have had you sailing about since you could walk...

Graham.

I'm thinking of going, so if you fancy watching me hoik up over the side come and hold my hankie.

Between heaving sessions we can have singing sessions!
