Yeah! That's one of my favorite videos. That machine is every Dachshund's dream. They're very obsessive when they get into something like retrieving, and you can see how much fun the old guy is having anticipating the next launch. What would be even better is an outdoor machine in a large yard, a machine that has the ability to swivel unpredictably to a number of different launch angles and directions. This would introduce even more excitement into the game, as the dog would have to wait for the actual launch before rushing off in pursuit of the ball.

I was sworn to secrecy over this, but I think the tale can, finally be told.

The father of historian David McCullough was one of my mother's beaux. He and mom were sitting on the sofa one night at mom's home in Edgewood. He decided to get romantic, and tried to put his arm around her. Loki, the family dachshund, crawled into his lap and crawled up his chest. That's pretty much how the evening went. He'd try to get romantic, and the chaperone would interfere. Hax McCullough married somebody else, and Mom married a handsome lawer.

Yes! That is a superb name for a Dachshund. Loki was the mischief-making troublemaker amongst the Norse Gods. No name could better fit a Dachshund.

Seems to me that it would almost have to be Loki. Most Dachshunds get German names, and Norse gods fit in well with German names.

Another story about Loki. One of the sights of Edgewood was grandaddy and Loki arguing about which way they would go on their walk. Grandaddy once argued a case before the Supreme Court. But he could not, successfully, debate a dachshund. Eventually, Loki would get tired and grandaddy would have to carry him home.
The idea of a group of dachshunds debating is frightening.
