Just when I was going to get a set for my truck:

"ANNAPOLIS, Md. (AP) Fake bull testicles and other anatomically explicit vehicle decorations would be banned from Maryland roads under a bill pending in the state legislature.

The measure was filed in the General Assembly Monday by Delegate LeRoy E. Myers Jr., R-Washingon, who says children shouldn't be exposed to giant plastic gonads dangling from pickup truck trailer hitches. The bill also would ban depictions of naked human breasts, buttocks or genitals, with offenses punishable by fines of up to $500.

"It's time to take a stand," Myers told The (Hagerstown) Herald-Mail.

The American Civil Liberties Union objected to Myers' bill.

"The legislation is overly broad, and would probably make it illegal to have a sticker on your car of the Venus de Milo from an art museum," ACLU of Maryland spokeswoman Meredith Curtis wrote in an e-mail.

Pamela Campbell whose Bullhead City, Ariz., business sells fake bull testicles, suggested that the swinging decorations can prompt healthy discussions about anatomy and reproduction.

"Do we have to neuter all dogs that walk by us?" she asked. "Where does it stop?"

Last week, Arizona's legislature rejected a measure that would have banned vehicle splash guards bearing racist terms or silhouettes of naked women."

I see the point, but they make me laugh for the wrong reasons.

1) The first time I saw them was on a Mustang driven by a woman. Is she saying she's in control of the males in her life, or is she saying that she didn't feel powerful enough without them?

2) I used to be a vet tech. I've handled a lot of animal testicles. I suppose it would be a driving hazard to make those things in scale with the vehicle, thus you end up with a truck with, proportionally, very small balls. I mean, look--those things are really pretty dinky. Neutered housecats have more impressive empty balls of fluff than that.



(I don't think they should be outlawed. I think they're absurd but no worse than most bumper stickers or those tacky chrome nudes that are so popular on eighteen-wheeler mud flaps.)

I can - just barely - see why someone in love with his truck's might want to intimate that his truck is well endowed, but following that train of thought it might be appropriate for him to hang a set outside his own trousers.

Everything must be just perfect in Maryland, if that's all the politicians can find wrong. I was in Maryland on Thurs. and Friday, and I didn't see any, so this law is tackling a problem that possibly doesn't exist.

Dickey must be going far back in his search for news. The bill was introduced back in February. It failed to come up for a vote in the House Rules Committee, and so will see no action during this term. In other words, the bill is as dead as the fake testicles.

Personally, I'm not offended by them, but I think they look very stupid. I can't see what sort of message the driver is trying to convey. Demontrating what they don't have themselves?

To each his own I guess. Even if you have to buy them.

Hey Rapaire....As I said before, BUY KANGAROO. Any cheap fanook can buy bull but be like me and have a Kangaroo Scrotum Pouch. Great as gifts too! I gave one to each of my nephews at Christmas and they were both grossed out as was Connie.

Speaking of nephews, David just bought a Dodge Ram 4WD Pickup with the Cummins Diesel. To the current crop of young males in the great unwashed midwest, the Dodge Ram Diesel is the ultimate Testosteronemobile. In my day it was Muscle Cars and Vettes and I can't see a stinking, noisy ass diesel as a Cockwagon, but times have changed. My point is that those bull balls are the perfect representation of what the pickup really has going for it and that is male macho power. Nobody needs one of the damn things but nobody needed 425 Horsepower street cars when Detroit Iron ruled the roads.

I think I'd incline to wonder whether anyone who chooses to go round like that is really fit to be in charge of a lethal machine. I imagine a lot of traffic cops might see it the same way, and decide to check.
