Subject: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Fibula Mattock Date: 14 Oct 05 - 12:50 PM Hello all, Following highly successful Loughstock I-III Mudcat Gatherings in the lovely setting of Portaferry, Co. Down, N. Ireland, it is now time for Loughstock IV. However, this is no ordinary Loughstock. This one co-incides with my 30th birthday and Bassic's 50th birthday, so we are combining them to have a grand Mudcatting 80th birthday, namely LOUGHSTOCK FOUR SCORE! There are lots of details and I have them on a web site - I just have to put the web site on some web space, and as soon as I figure out where that'll be, I'll post the link. In the meantime: WHAT: Mudcat gathering and significant birthday celebrations WHERE: Portaferry, Co. Down, N. Ireland WHEN: 3rd-5th February 2006 (dates non-negotiable as thats when we were born) More to follow!! |

Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: MudGuard Date: 17 Oct 05 - 01:09 PM at the Portaferry Hotel. Not the cheapest, but by far the nicest for miles and miles around and most important the only one around ;-) I second Liz's question: how is your father? Are the legs healing? |
Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Fibula Mattock Date: 18 Oct 05 - 06:31 AM Thanks for asking! He's hopping around on crutches inside the house, and has just started a little bit of weightbearing. If he wants to go more than a few metres though, he's still using the wheelchair. We wheeled him right along the shore (and back, as we were feeling generous) on Sunday - my arms are much stronger now. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Letty Date: 18 Oct 05 - 03:20 PM Planning to come! Send my regards to your father. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Liz the Squeak Date: 18 Oct 05 - 05:44 PM He's doing really well then... my mate who bust his leg a month before, is still on non weight bearing. Send him our love and a big sloppy kiss. LTS |

Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: GUEST,GIOK Date: 25 Oct 05 - 09:18 AM If the hostel is working I may come otherwise I can't see me doing two trips to Ireland in the same year in the motorhome. Also I may be in post surgery [hip] recovery and limited by that. Giok |
Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Leadfingers Date: 25 Oct 05 - 09:27 AM Giok - I am about to check the hostel myself !! |

Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Fibula Mattock Date: 26 Oct 05 - 03:21 PM Having not picked my fiddle up in many, many months I had it out last night while the spag bol was stewing and managed a few rounds of "le canal en octobre", and very octoberish it was too. Hostel up and running to my knowledge, love to see yous there, might even get a bit of dancing in (having become an avid set dancer over the past year). Will talk more about it soon, promise, but things are chaotic at the moment as it's only a few weeks into term and I'm frantically trying to stay on top of things... Don't go changing! (p.s. Giok, you can borrow me da's wheelchair if yer hip's bad!) |

Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Maryrrf Date: 30 Oct 05 - 02:40 PM My friend in Scotland wants to go. I just might be able to make it. Tickets from the US are cheap that time of year (everybody else wants to go some place warm)and we can get from Glasgow to Belfast on Easyjet for around 35 pounds each. But is this a sure thing, 'cause I think I'd better book soon. Those Easyjet bargain fares go fast. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Leadfingers Date: 30 Oct 05 - 02:43 PM Mary - YES it will happen !! Be really nice to see you there !! |
Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: John MacKenzie Date: 30 Oct 05 - 05:23 PM Mary do have another look around before you book Easyjet, I'm sure there are cheaper deals available. Giok |
Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Maryrrf Date: 30 Oct 05 - 10:33 PM Really, I though EasyJet was the way to go and 35 pounds sounded pretty reasonable. There is a deal that includes bus from Glasgow and Ferry and it is also around 35 pounds, but takes a long time. Are there other airlines to try? I only know Easyjet. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Herge Date: 31 Oct 05 - 04:17 PM I flew Belfast to Edinburgh in September for £7.99 each way - hard to beat! |

Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Claymore Date: 06 Nov 05 - 08:12 PM Fib, I've been actually thinking of this one as a go, since my ancestors come from Newtonards, but I can't seem to find any Aer Lingus flights out of Baltimore (BWI) and I really hate NY. I will be checking on Dulles (DCA) but even that is a major hassle. If you have any info on cheap flights out of the DC/Baltimore area let me know. Also I would be interested in splitting a rental car out of Dublin and back if you know of anyone going that way. Say hi to Ella from me! |
Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Maryrrf Date: 06 Nov 05 - 08:47 PM Try this site http://www.sidestep.com . They have plenty of options from BWI to Dublin although they aren't direct and I didn't see any Aer Lingus. Belfast is a lot closer to Portaferry, but the airfare is more expensive. Sidestep searches all the other travel websites and pulls in all the options. I've had very good results. Good luck. |
Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: mooman Date: 07 Nov 05 - 04:31 AM Claymore I'll be going via Dublin and could split a rental car with you if travel dates coincide and you like. Peace moo |
Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: GUEST,Ella who is sooze sans cookie Date: 07 Nov 05 - 07:12 AM Hi Claymore... How's things, a bit dubious about your past history with hire cars I'd like to warn everyone that all of Ireland is not safe... :-) Not sure if I can go - erm... I've not told anyone on here yet, but I'm actually getting married next year and have to save up some mula/money/magic beans for that. Will see what the winds bring me and if I can persuade the other half. Hallo anyway, from one moore to another - though soon to change. Ella wot is sooze |
Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: Fibula Mattock Date: 07 Nov 05 - 07:23 AM HURRAH! Congratulations Sooz! You definitely have to come over now! (Or, you could come to the St. Bon's Christmas party here in Bristol on the 11th December for a spot of ceili-ing...) |
Subject: RE: Loughstock 4-score (N. Irish meet) From: GUEST Date: 07 Nov 05 - 07:29 AM Oooooo.... St. Bons party sounds good - I'll try and get a seige party over from Wales with me that'll be good fun. I did a two hand reel dance with Liz on Thursday - fair knackered me thighs I did too. Also did a 6 hand fairy reel and that did me in finally. We've all been meaning to come over to see the Bristol lot for a while now. Ella who is sooze |
