Having had Tyburn on my mind when I made the first post in this thread the name should have of course been spelt Tindall. Amazing that my second post should have been quite in line with the business of Messrs Tyndall and co.

Not so! The silent treatment is extremely effective in my opinion, because even though you can't hear anything, the negative vibes coming your way could kill a goldfish at 30 paces, cause birds to fall out of the sky, and will cause considerable discomfort to your nervous system...unless you have a nervous system as primitive as that of a potato or an eggplant. In that case the effect may be quite minimal...and she'll probably resort to something more drastic, like putting poison in your drink or locking you out of the house and throwing all your clothes and other personal items out of the 2nd story windows.

Had hoped to draw some of the big beasts out of the mudcat jungle, however,they must still be licking their wounds, all I got was a little gnu.
As the pheasant poaching season is now in full swing I will here give an infallible method of taking a few for the pot and I trust that I can rely on the honour of any who try this method not to turn it into a commercial speculation.
Pheasants, as you know, roost in trees during the night. Having silently approached a suitable tree one burns the lump of sulphur that one has provided for this purpose, after a short time the pheasants succumb to the fumes and fall to the ground, then having selected say four of the plumpest one makes a leisurely retreat home, the others will recover after a short period and return to the roosting spot. On reaching home these choice birds must be treated with all due respect, take two four inch nails and hammer them into the inside of the back door of your house as high up as you can reach tie the birds together in pairs and hang them up on these nails for a period of three weeks, inspect after two weeks, by which time your wife and family will have departed for pastures new, at the end of the three week period, your dog also having departed, take down, remove feathers, and prepare for cooking, at this point having persuaded your wife to return she being fitted up with a suitable gas mask lie back with a drink of your choice and be prepared to feast on food fit for gods or members of the English rugby team.

Me, moi and Jimmy Suis are the three of me.

And then there's Dale and Del and Daisy and others... but they are real frigments of my imagination. None of them would subject helpless pheasants to such distress. They would use the exhaust from there 4X4s. Much more humane... and far more effective. Besides, they like the warmth.

Tho, I do appreciate your cunning. Keeps the wardens away. Albeit outdated tech but I suppose it's even better than the pine needle smoke fires my forefather used in winter.

Yo... tree hugger warning... I have NEVER poached game. I have only heard about such nefarious deeds from people I do not really know, late at a night over a few ales and some fresh fried... ahhh, chicken I bought at the Co-Op as I support local farmers.

Let me assure gnu and Little Hawk that the method described is most humane, the pheasants not selected for the pot all make a full recovery, such would not be the case if fumes from a vehicle were used.
The birds taken by a responsible poacher are the lucky ones, hundreds of thousands are hand reared annually and released to the wild at the start of the pheasant shooting season and then a slaughter commences which can only be compared to that which took place during the 1st WW only in this case one side cannot fight back.
The hanging of the birds for a three week period may or may not take place nowadays but was certainly practiced in "Country Houses" to my personal knowlege in the recent past. I often wondered how the servants could put up with the smell, then again if one takes to loading a manure heap by hand into a cart one does not notice the smell after three or four minutes.
