I started this out as a thread about going to the UK but now I need to expand it to include as many as I can. You can
CLICK HERE for the old thread.

I am starting to get worried that there will be no room at the inn(s) in Jolly Olde England. My trip coincides with three other 'Catters. But I will find them and we will share music and stories so sleeping on a park bench will be OK.

As it stands right now we will leave Guam around the middle of July and spend a couple of weeks in Japan. Wakana's parents want to introduce me to the rest of the family in a big party. I also want to see some more of Japan. then we head for England around the beginning of August. I hope to spend a month there, traveling around seeing the country and meeting the people, especially Mudcatters. After that we are off to New York. From there we will drive North to Toronto to visit a school friend of Wakana's (and Mudcats?). Along the way we will stop in Vermont to visit my old voice teacher (More Mudcats?).

Then we are headed for Maine and the home crew. In October we will be in the Washington area for the FSGW Getaway. By the end of October we will be headed west to Seattle to visit friends and, hopefully, even more Mudcats. Then we head home through Honolulu (Mudcatter!) and Manila (no Mudcats, sigh) and finally home to Guam. I figure the trip will consume four months. We will be tired but very happy when we get home.

So, anyone along the way we can visit? I bought a Martin Little Guitar to carry with me. Can we share some music and stories, a little beer and some smiles?

If you are too shy to respond here you can email me at brettdb@yahoo.com. I know, I know, I shouldn't put my email address on a public forum but this is the address I give out when I figure the result will be more spam.

Naemanson, if you are coming through London PM me and we will try and arrange a place for you to stay, I know there is a lot of "traffic" coming through about then but we are ingenious and innovative folks and can usually find a bed for visiting 'Catters, (either at ours or with Liz the Squeak who lives nearby) look forward to meeting you Micca

I will keep this thread active with my plans and goals. Thanks for the offers of beds, Micca and LtS. I have received other offers on the earlier thread and will take up any that come my way. I do not have any definite "have-to" plans besides my daughter's wedding on August 13 in Lancaster. The next month or two will be taken up with plans and itineraries.

I am starting to get excited about this!

If you pass by Guisborough, North Yorks, you could circle The Globe, but it is a much better idea to go inside and have a pint with Magician and Gillie.

Brett and Wakana-

Mark this date clearly in your calendar (and don't lose your calendar), Saturday September 10th, at Robinhood Farm, the first annual music gathering at the renovated lower barn. We hope you're back in Maine by then and are free to enjoy.

You're our first invitees!

When you come to Canada, Brett, Edmund and I might be able to make the trip from Ottawa to Toronto -- that is, if we can't inveigle you into making the trip from Toronto to Ottawa! You'll have to let us know when you think you might arrive, of course ... We poor suckers still have jobs we have to go to most days.

Wakana's favorite color? Ooh, ooh I know this one! She likes sun and sky colors. She likes deep sky blue, not the pale color of a wasshed out sky but the deep blue of early evening. And she likes the orange yellow of a warm sun.

Thanks Liz. When and how long is the Bank Holiday? I know how to feed cats. They are my favorite type of four footed people.

Charmion, how far is it from Toronto to Ottawa? And as an aside, Wakana is from Nasushiobara in Japan. The next town over, the one we went to for her medical treatment is Otawara City. Close enough to Ottawa's spelling for me.

I just had a PM from Susan of DT trying to set up a meeting for Whitby. I guess I will plan on going to Whitby at least. How many 'Catters go there?

This will not be a matter of just going to festivals. My first, last, and only visit to England was in 1973 when my ship came to Portsmouth. I would like to play tourist for a while and see some of the old country. I would like to visit at least one of the towns of Burnham because one of them is the source of my family name. I just don't know which one and there appear to be at least five of them.

Actually, Charley, I have added Dead Dog Cider to my list of songs I am learning. I'm almost there and will happily take it to England and Canada to share with the Mudcats there. I also decided today that I should ask for the chords to West Indies Blues. I was listening to your CD the other day and that damn song got stuck in my head again.

catsPHiddle, I did get your offer and will take you up on it. I would love to visit and go to a session and whatever else is happening there.

OKAY, here we go! We bought the plane tickets last week. Here is our planned itinerary:

Depart Guam for Japan July 22 at 1200.

Depart Japan for England July 31 at 1620, arrive on August 1 at 0640 local time.

Depart England for New York August 31 at 1230, arrive at 1525 local time.

Depart NYC for Toronto September 1 Return September 5.

Depart NYC for Maine by train on September 5 or 6.

From September 6 through September 11 we will be in southern Maine. I expect we will be at the Press Room on the 9th and at the Music thing at Robin Hood Cove on the 10th. Then we are off to northern Maine to visit my parents. We will be there for the rest of September and the first week of October. We will probably take a trip down to Nova Scotia and Fredrickton during that time.

Depart Maine for Maryland on 11 October. Visit in Connecticut and sightseeing along the way.

October 14 through 17 쳌EFSGW!

October 17 through 26 we will be sightseeing in Washington and Baltimore.

Depart NYC for Los Angeles October 26 at 1325, arrive at 1618 local time.

Visit with Amos in San Diego and with other friends in Seattle.

Depart Los Angeles on November 11 at 0910 arrive in Guam at 0045 on November 12.

So stand by USA, Canada, and England for the invasion and tour of the century (at least for me and Wakana). Set your calendars for a wake up call on the date of your choice. Here we come!

By the way, the title of this thread has since become erroneous. I had been working with Airtreks.com out of San Francisco. Due to an error on my part I couldn't get the ticket money to them in time and missed the chance to use their tickets. I searched around the usual travel sites and then, just for kicks, I went to Continental and plugged in a multiple destination trip. I got nearly the same price as the "deal" I was going to get from Airtreks only now I can make changes to all the flights and I get all the miles. The downside is that we will not technically fly around the world. We will go from Japan to London via New York.

Oh, and details of the trip.

Arrive in London on Monday, August 1, at 0640. We plan to take the train up to Leicester. We'll be in Loughborough with the kids for the first week and then move over to Lancaster on August 11. We'll be going up to Durham in that week and over to visit Vindolanda. We'll be in Lancaster till the 14th and then head over to Whitby for the festival. Dick and Susan have offered us room in their cottage. Then we are headed to Abergavenny to take a canalboat out on a short break. From there we go down to the Bath area to visit that town, Stonehennge, Woodhenge, Avebury, and any other ancient sites we can crowd into the days. We'll finish our visit with four or five days in London. Micca and Catsphidle have both offered us accomodations while we are there.

From there we move on (through NYC) to Toronto to visit a friend of Wakana's and to do some sightseeing. I would love to get together with some 'Cats there. We head back through NYC to Maine and spend time at home, visiting and showing Wakana my home towns.

A new development will be a visit to Nova Scotia. This is still in the planning stages but my father would like to go and we certainly have the time. I was last there as a baby and consequently don't remember it at all. Dad wants to visit Louisville and I'd also like to visit King's Landing again.

Then we are off to Maryland for the FSGW Folk Getaway! That should be LOTS of fun. After that we will do some sightseeing in Washington and then head for Los Angeles on the 26th.

We'll be headed down to San Diego to visit Amos and then up north to visit other friends. I know there are Mudcats in San Francisco and I hope to use rail travel on the west coast so maybe we can do something there. I've always wanted to see that town. We'll also be in Seattle for a time if there are any 'Cats there.

Then we are headed home.

The August Bank Holiday in the UK is the last Monday of the month. This year it's Monday 29th, 2 days before you fly out. Consequently, if you are only spending 5 days in London, many of the Catters normally there will be at various festivals across the country. However, as posted above, you are welcome to our house if you can feed the cats for me!

Let me know if you need a guest room 30 minutes from DC and 45 minutes from Baltimore. The pool will be closed but the hot tub will be hot. We have 2 boys 5 & 9 a friendly cat and an extra car.

I'd like to know more about the Maryland folk festival.

Donuel, I was talking about the FSGW Getaway. I assume you know about that one. There is a huge thread about it. The dates are October 14 through 17.

As for your offer of a room, let me take it up with my dear wife. That will be three months into our trip and money will be getting thin but then, our realtionship may also be stretched too.
