There's a solution to all this unwanted tension, people. Make sure to eat spotted dick at least 3 times a week. Avoid calling people a "stupid git" unless it's absolutely necessary and don't put sugar in your wine! It's gauche to do that. Never end a sentence with a preposition, hold the fork in you left hand (YES! Even you Republicans!), and don't EVER bugger the spaniel! Sing "God Save the Queen" before retiring. Fluff your pillows, but only just soooo much, and not a ruffle more! The family escutcheon was built on these kind of things, and they cannot be neglected, for if they are...chaos awaits!

Never end a sentence with a preposition

"That is the sort of English up with which I will not put." (W Churchill)

Would that be male, or female spaniels?

If you were standing to A tension Richard, then Wan King might well be the answer assuming there wasn't a female handy at the time.

Well, I was thinking for a minute I was a stupid git to have needed to google the definition of escutcheon.

For a second or two longer I was pretty tense, wondering if I would ever be able to remember how to spell it, should I have the occasion.

Then.... I got even more tense, thinking it would be a sad state of affairs if I did ever have a bona-fide need to use it, me being past the age of spelling bees and all that.

And then... I got to worrying about the lack of ruffles on me pillows, not to mention what atrocities might be happening across the street to the wee spaniel when the shades are drawn at night, while I sit, blithely oblivious at my keyboard, pondering the fate of the nation and the world and such larger things, instead of tending to my own community.

And THEN...... I began pining for the days when men were men and only sheep were scared.

I'm much better now, however. A glass of (unsugared) wine in hand, I watched an episode from season 5 of Stargate Atlantis. It put things in perspective.

I mean, we think we have problems....

Sausage dogs are obviously fair game in Canada.

Also, there's many a man went to bed with a problem on his mind, and awoke with a solution on his belly.

Anyone who attempts to bugger a Dachsie is risking serious damage to his family jewels! They will defend themselves quite vigorously, and their jaws are very strong. Spaniels are a bit wimpy, though, so that's why the rule for them.

To reduce string tension without changing the string gauge or lower the action??

Try adjusting the truss rod wheel. It will lower the action, but a bit diferently than lowering it by the bridge saddles. It will take some relief out of the neck, reduce neck bow in the middle.

Low tension strings can be bought

But, tension is the same on all guitars in standard tuning, if using the same guage strings. It's a "weight" thing calculated on a string. How much weight needed to stretch the string to a certain pitch.

The only thing is guitar set-up. That's what makes it "easier" to play/bend etc. . . but it is still the exact same "tension" as on other guitars that are equal in tuning/guage.

"The creation and destruction of harmonic and 'statistical' tensions is essential to the maintenance of compositional drama. Any composition (or improvisation) which remains consistent and 'regular' throughout is, for me, equivalent to watching a movie with only 'good guys' in it, or eating cottage cheese"

There are plenty of good ways of easin' tension. One way is to have a couple slugs of whisky. Another way is to go to the local bar and have a few there while yakkin' to your pals and boastin' about your accomplishments, imaginary or otherwise. If sometime through the evenin' you find your tension risin' again because the dope across the table or at the bar is bein' a jerk, you can defuse all that tension by bustin' a chair over his head and throwin' him down the stairs or out the nearest window, if there is one. If there ain't you just pitch him into a wall or some other vertical surface. If he bounces back, you do it again. If all else fails to release tension, I find that firin' off a full drum of ammo from a tommy gun does wonders. Just aim it around at things in general. Get someone else to clean up the mess afterward if at all possible.

Avoid caffeine, switch off the news, unplug the phone, avoid reading newspapers and avoid contact with people that irritate, wind down with gentle music, massage the temples, inhale then exhale slowly on the count of ten.

At least I didn't say have a cigarette.

I've taken on a new and demanding job. I enjoy it but since it involves dealing with people all day there are dozens of interruptions and a multitude of distractions. I aim to leave the office IN the office but when I left the office the other evening I was still buzzing. So I stuck an old copy of Antz in the VCR, pulled my new dog onto my lap and watched it all the way through. Great way to leave it all behind.

John Prine said it best:

Blow up your TV, throw away your paper,
Go to the country, build you a home.
Plant a little garden, eat a lot of peaches,
Try and find Jesus on your own.

Yes, new dog, gnu. Thanks for asking - I think it is easier to write about it than to talk of it; I still bleed about it when I speak of my Meggie.

I knew there was something wrong but silly me, I thought it was her feet that had taken a beating from wintertime's ice-combatting salt concoctions. But it was cancer, which hadn't even occurred to me.

In her first home they had discovered that she had a hole in her chest wall that had allowed part of her liver to migrate into the heart cavity. They think that is probably what turned cancerous.

She was only 9 years old.

I now have another 'rescue' dog. Of all things, he is a Chinese Crested Hairless; I can't imagine why anyone would bring a dog of that breed into this cold climate. He wears a sweater indoors and an overcoat when he's out and about. This winter he probably won't be out much at all. But he is very sweet and is learning fast. He is only 2 years old; what made him unadoptable was the expensive major surgery he had to have on 'bilateral luxating patellae'.

Anyway the the surgery is two weeks past now and he is doing well.

Main problem is that he has a severe case of separation anxiety. If anyone has a surefire way of getting a dog past that miserable emotion I would appreciate it!

Can the other dogs help relieve that anxiety for him? (or do you just have the one dog at this time)

No, I don't have a second dog, Little Hawk, but you do give me an idea. He evidently loves cats; must have had one in his first home.

I say that because a couple of weeks after I got home I housesat for some friends. I had done it with Meggie a few times too and the Monk and my dog never fought but it was an armed truce.

The day I walked into their yard with Ellery, however, the Monk met us at the gate. He and Ellery fell into instant love. They never sniffed each other's rears but they rubbed noses and nuzzled their necks together. I think it was because Ellery so clearly said in delight: "They have a cat!" And Monk responded.

Maybe if Ellery had a cat of his own he'd feel less abandoned?
