Subject: BS: England performance against France From: Alan Day Date: 18 Nov 10 - 07:13 AM I watched the England V France game last night and I thought the England Team was dreadful. For nearly three quarters of the game twenty one men were kicking the ball towards our goal. On the odd occasion that the English players decided to attack their only option was to punt the ball up the field with the hope that the Centre Forward Caroll would get on the end of it. We have gone back years in our game and were taught a lesson on how to play it by France.I know this was an experimental side, but even the basics "Passing" seemed beyond their capabilities. Al |

Subject: RE: BS: England performance against France From: MGM·Lion Date: 18 Nov 10 - 07:28 AM I agree. An odd psychic moment I had, tho: I said to my wife (who is as footie-oriented as me, and much more knowledgeable: not only knows the club-history of every player but can name any manager too!) as Peter Crouch was brought on just before the end, "Well, he has a knack of scoring soon after coming on as a substitute" ~~ and blow me, he scored after a few seconds with his first touch! Otherwise, it was, tho, just as Al relates above. Alas. ~M~ |

Subject: RE: BS: England performance against France From: Arnie Date: 18 Nov 10 - 07:30 AM It was as one-sided as the Hayes v Harrison fight, only played out on a football field instead of in the ring. Capello has fallen out with Liverpool FC after reneging on his pre-match agreement with LUFC to only play Gerrard for 60 mins. Gerrard finally went off injured and it was all so unnecessary. I suppose the ideal was to give some of the youngsters a chance at international level but unfortunately they proved themselves just as incapable as the so-called 'golden generation'. I hear that Andy Carrol acquitted himself well, but he didn't score did he? Crouch may not look like an orthodox striker but he does deliver the goods when required. |

Subject: RE: BS: England performance against France From: MikeL2 Date: 18 Nov 10 - 11:30 AM Hi I watched the first half and gave up !!! England were shocking. They lacked the speed of foot and thought to be able to even compete with the French. As has been said above they did not appear to even have the ability to pass the ball accurately. Some of this was no doubt due to the inability to run a nd find space to be in position to receive a pass. Hence having always pass backwards. Carroll did do quite well but as Rooney and others have found before him, you can't be left alone without any support in Internation matches. Back to the drawing board Mr Capello. Cheers MikeL2 |
